Chapter 1553 More Money Than He Can Spend
Johanna did not know how to respond to that, so she remained silent.
Seeing that, Genevieve was both frustrated and helpless. She picked up her phone from the table to
check if she had received any work messages, only to notice a news notification.
It turned out that there was an auction with quite a few priceless items the day before the opening of
the Broburgh Film Festival.
The auction items included a pear-shaped pink diamond weighing ninety-point four carats.
It was one of only eight flawless diamonds to have appeared in the International Auction since 1990, its
stunning pink hue attracting the attention of netizens worldwide.
Genevieve had too many jewels that the sight of that pink diamond did not stir any excitement within
her. She held her phone out to Johanna, asking, “Do you like it?”
Johanna glanced at the phone screen. “It's quite beautiful, but I usually don’t wear jewelry during work.
I also rarely attend evening parties. I can't even wear all the jewelry Timothy bought me.”
Genevieve stared at her before suddenly bursting into laughter, puzzling Johanna to no end. “Why are
you laughing, Genev?”
“It's nothing.”
Genevieve sent a message to her cousin, Yuvan, who was attending the film festival in Bellridge,
asking for his help to buy the pink diamond.
Well, it'll be nice to give this to Cooper and Sally when they get married as a wedding gift.
After the weekend, Johanna returned to her studio and got down to business. She sketched several
drafts but was not satisfied with any of them. She felt that the clothing lacked elements of tea, making
them seem like ordinary clothes.
Coincidentally, Waylon's friend owned a tea garden on the outskirts of Jadeborough, so she planned to
visit it for inspiration.
The tea garden was not far from Jadeborough, just about an hour and a half by subway. She took the NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
subway, and after getting off the station, a ten-minute bus ride brought her to the plantation base.
Waylon had notified the person in charge of the tea garden about Johanna's visit. As such, the man
was already waiting at the intersection to pick her up.
As they walked toward the tea garden, the person in charge said to Johanna, “The tea we grow here is
all rooibos tea. The sprouts that are growing now are of the spring season. The tea buds are plump,
and they're lush green...”
The closer Johanna got to the tea plantation, the more distinct the fragrant aroma of tea on the gentle
breeze. It filled the air around her, making her pores open in delight.
As Johanna passed the open-air parking lot, she noticed several cars parked there. Among them, the
license plate of a Mercedes seemed vaguely familiar. “Do you have guests today?” she asked.
“Yes.” The person in charge explained in a whisper, “The big shot seems quite wealthy and wants to
buy this tea garden to plant something else.”
At that, Johanna commented in amusement, “If he wants to grow fruits, he can buy an orchard. Why
spend so much money buying and renovating a tea garden? Does he have more money than he can
spend?”
The person in charge murmured, “Well, that's just how the wealthy think, acting as they please. This
way, please, Ms. Joule.”
Johanna came very early to get inspiration. It was not even ten o'clock yet then. Upon entering the tea
plantation, she was greeted by a vast field of lush green tea trees. The workers were efficiently picking
tea leaves with baskets slung over their shoulders.
The person in charge took Johanna for a stroll around the tea garden. All the while, he enlightened her
with a wealth of knowledge about tea.
Mid-stroll, a staff member came looking for the person in charge. Hence, the person in charge told
Johanna to feel free to wander around on her own.
Johanna stood beside a cluster of tea trees, watching the workers swiftly pluck the leaves at the top. In
an instant, the vibrant green buds were gone. “Are you only picking the buds now?”
“Yes,” the worker replied. “The buds are most expensive in spring, so we earn more picking them.”
It was Johanna's first time visiting a tea garden. She found it all very interesting, be it savoring the
aroma of the tea or watching the workers pick tea leaves. “Can I give it a try?”
The worker patiently showed her how to pinch off the buds, emphasizing that they must not be
damaged in the process.
Johanna got the hang of plucking the bud tips after a few tries. In no time, her bamboo basket was
filled with many tea leaves. While she was conversing with the elderly woman, thunder suddenly split
the air, and the heavens opened.
The plucked bud tips were precious, and their value would be diminished significantly if they got wet in
the rain. The elderly woman quickly covered her basket and hurriedly ran toward the tea room.
Johanna hastily took off her coat and draped it over the bamboo basket.
The downpour was sudden and heavy. In the seconds it took Johanna to remove her windbreaker, she
was completely drenched from head to toe.
Phew! Luckily, my windbreaker coat is waterproof. The sprouts in the basket won't get wet.
Johanna likewise wanted to take shelter from the rain in the tea room. But as soon as she stood up,
she saw a man with a black umbrella braving the heavy rain and rushing toward the tea garden.
