Chapter Nineteen
Chapter Nineteen
Corinna
Letting out a pained scream, my eyes fall onto the toddler who still grips one of my hands her eyes are
now glowing with orange flecks, making them look like flames. Helena cries out her daughters name,
ripping her away from me, leaving me sitting frozen in shock.
" Oh Corinna! I'm so sorry! " Helena gasps, she sits her daughter on the floor away from me, running
into the kitchen, returning with a jar of mushed herbs.
She kneels in front of me, taking a gentle hold of my burnt hands. She applies the herbs that come out
like a paste on my skin, she chants quietly under her breath, her words rushed and panicked as she
heals the burns.
As she does this, I look over at the little girl who sits on the floor watching us, her eyes have now
returned to their normal ruby colour. Helena eventually removes the paste on my hands, that were now
almost completely healed, they'd heal quicker due to me being half wolf either way but the magic sped
up the process dramatically.
" Helena, I think you have some explaining to do. " I mumble.
She glances up at me, giving me a singular nod before taking her seat and picking Dyna up onto her
lap.
" As you know, witches don't have mates or beloveds, but they can be bonded to another supernatural
and feel that bond. " She begins, I nod at this but stay silent allowing her to continue. " One day I was
out picking some plants I needed, I bumped into a man, he was bare and at first I'd assumed he was a
wolf who had just shifted back, he claimed that I was his mate and I found out that he.. Well he's a
dragon. He claimed me as his and we - well you know how they process goes, a few weeks later I
discovered I was with child. "
During this explanation she had pulled her shirt to the side, exposing her neck where her mark was. "
Dyna is a hybrid, like you, just a different type of hybrid. That's why when I found you, it didn't bother
me that you were one because I knew my child would be like you and that is also why I had to send
you away. You were being hunted by your own pack, your own
family, imagine what they'd do to someone they had no connection to if they'd found out? Especially
someone who's half dragon . "
" I understand. " I nod.
" You're not upset? About what she just did to you? " Helena looks shocked.
" Of course not, I know what it's like to not be able to control your gifts, to control yourself and I was
much older than her without having any control. " I say.
A grateful smile graces Helena's face, but it drops when I ask my next question. " Where is her father?
Your mate. "
" Dragons they, they're much different to us, to any supernatural creature really. Especially male
dragons, he wouldn't be able to live in this type of environment. I wasn't willing to uproot my entire life.
He does come to visit us, all the time. " She tells me, I can see how upset the situation makes her and
the sympathy I feel for her washes over me.
We catch up for another while until I realise it's gotten pretty late, I pack away Malakai's ring with my
clothes into my bag pack and Helena walks me out of her house, I say goodbye to her and Dyna,
promising I'll visit again when Helena tells me to come back sometime to meet her mate.
Thanking her for helping me with Malakai's ring one final time, I turn away shifting into my wolf and
sprinting back towards the mansion. By time I reach the gate leading up to the back patio, it's been
dark for a while. I shift back before entering the gate, getting the ring from my bag, lacing it through a Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
long silver chain, I hold it in my hand as I step over the pathway across the stream and up to the patio.
Kai is outside wrapping his navy shirt around me in a flash, covering me from any and all eyes near by.
He leads me up to his room, staying completely silent until we're in his room and the door is closed
behind us.
He wraps me in his arms, hugging me tightly to him. " I thought you left me again. "
The tone of his voice makes my heart break and guilt course through me. I return his embrace just as
tightly. " I'm not going anywhere Kai, I'm so sorry. I should have left you a note. " I whisper into his
collar bone, pressing my lips to his skin.
" Where were you? " He mumbles, still holding onto me, breathing in my scent.
" I went to visit my friend. One of the witches I was talking about. " I tell him.
Kai sighs. " Cori, you don't have to do that. I know that there isn't a way for me to walk in the sun. "
Lifting my head so I can look into his eyes, I give him a grin. " Actually, now there is. "
His expression changes to complete confusion. I hold up the chain with his ring on the end of it. " Is
that my family ring from the 1800s? "
I nibble on my lip. " Okay, don't be mad but I went through your things. I needed a personal item for it to
work. "
" What to work? " He still looks confused.
" There's a protection spell bound to this ring, so as long as you're wearing it you can be out when it's
daytime. I needed a personal item for it to work. " I explain.
He looks at me in shock. " are you serious? "
I nod.
" I can walk in the sun? "
" as long as you're wearing this, yes. " I confirm.
He grins at me, pulling me to him and placing a sweet kiss on my lips. " I can't believe it, thank you. "
Pulling the chain around his neck, I give him a grin then lace my fingers in his hair. " you are more than
welcome.
Mal.... will finally work in the sun
