Chapter 0378
Chapter 0378
Candice followed Alex as they exited the restaurant. She stayed silent throughout.
Henry's voice rang constantly in her head. Her brain buzzed, and her chest felt tense and uneasy.
Alex abruptly came to a stop.
Candice gazed up at him, where her eyes were packed with complicated thoughts. Without a doubt, Henry's slap would have landed on her face had Alex not stepped in.
She questioned silently, "How did you make it there just in time?" All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
"Angela tipped me off," Alex remarked casually.
"It is still unclear what the nature of Henry and Darius' relationship is," he said coldly as he looked at the time. "Getting involved could make things more complicated for you."
"So, you're here to warn me?" Candice questioned, her lips slightly pursed.
Alex maintained a calm look. He ignored the question and focused on her face. He went on to ask in a deep voice, "Should I have Sawyer take you to the hospital for a check-up?"
The message was clear to Candice. He was trying to avoid having her become involved in anything that could potentially affect his plans. Alex was always cautious, especially given Henry's ties to Darius. He wouldn't want the situation she was in to lead to any unforeseen problems.
She kept silent for a moment before responding, "I'm okay. I'll return to the conference hall on my own."
Candice felt uneasy when she had to deal with Alex. Nobody wanted to be seen at their most vulnerable.
Alex lifted his brow slightly but said nothing further.
Candice returned to the conference hall all by herself.
Angela was already waiting for her. She was astonished to see Candice return so quickly and said, "Why are you back already?"
She assumed Candice would spend more time with Alex.
Candice gazed at her and was hesitant to speak. Finally, she shook her head and quietly returned to her seat.
Angela followed her. She poured Candice a glass of water. Her liveliness faded as she asked, "Are you upset that I contacted Mr. Elysian? I'm surprised that he turned up so fast and was just as worried about you.
"It's not your fault," Candice interrupted before she could finish. "If it hadn't been for you two, I'm not sure how I could've managed."
Massaging the center of her brow, she sighed and murmured, "I'm just tired."
Truth be told, anyone in her shoes would find the situation tiring.
Since Candice refused to talk any further, Angela provided a few words of comfort with an intricate look in her eyes before leaving.
Candice stayed focused on her job for the remainder of the afternoon. She forced herself to concentrate entirely on the planning proposal without permitting her mind to wander off to Henry.
Surprisingly, she was highly productive.
Yondu had passed by her three times. Finally, he couldn't help but call out to her.
Candice glanced up and asked, "What's up?"
"Nothing much. I just wanted to remind you that you needed a break. You've worked all afternoon. How much does Hanley pay you for being so diligent?" He added, "Have you ever heard of slacking off? It's a skill that needs to be mastered by all employees."
Candice glanced at the time and realized the day's session was nearly over.
She nodded at Yondu and replied, "Okay, thanks."
Yondu's delighted smile stretched across his face. He was going to compliment her on her ability to learn quickly when Candice interjected with a question.
"Is Mr. Franklyn and Mr. Willson still at work now? I have a question for them."
Yondu's praises were in his throat, making him uneasy. Nonetheless, he couldn't help but remark in a gloomy tone, "That's why I loathe Hanley. He is a workaholic, and his obsession has spread to everyone who works at his studio."
Despite his grumbling, he promised to take her to see Abel after their work was completed.
They then headed to Abel's laboratory.
