My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0392

Chapter 0392

Sonia gripped her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

She couldn’t understand why, despite liking Alex for so long, he couldn’t see her, why his eyes were only on Candice. Whenever they had been together, no matter how much she hinted, Alex always maintained a gentlemanly demeanor.

But now he was willing to let Candice carry his child.

Sonia couldn’t accept the contrast, nor could she accept Alex's indifferent treatment. She could only attribute all her grievances to Candice.

If it were not for Candice —

If Candice did not exist.

The last trace of hesitation in Sonia's heart vanished. She closed her phone screen, which had been left on the call log, and turned to leave in the opposite direction.

Candice was outside on a small balcony, taking a breather. The balcony was connected to a staircase leading down, with railings on the side. During meetings, when she got tired, Angela would bring her here to rest.

Candice was worried about the situation with Redshade, but Hanley had been comforting her, so she didn’t want to show her concern.

However, before coming to Solaris, she’d made a pact with Hanley, and she didn’t want to give up so easily.

She was in a chat group with Yana and Nadia. On her phone, Yana was currently sharing about a trendy shop she had seen, saying they should go together after Candice returned.

She tagged Candice. Candice was typing a reply when she suddenly heard a loud voice behind her.

"What are you doing? Can't you see there's someone there?!"

It was Angela's voice.

Candice turned, startled, only to see a young man in his twenties holding a bundle of wooden sticks behind her. Each stick was about as thick as a man’s arm, the sticks long and dirty, with many thorns on them.

If Angela hadn’t called out, he might have hit Candice in the waist.

She had been standing near the stairs, and if the sticks had caught her clothes and with a tug, Candice might have ended up rolling down the stairs. Even if she hadn’t, being hit with the bundle of sticks wouldn’t have been pleasant.

Candice looked at the young man, who was only three meters away from her, feeling a wave of fear. There was a cold sweat on her back.

She looked up at the young man, who lowered his head and hid his face behind the bundle, apologizing softly and timidly. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you just now."

Angela had already walked up to Candice and stood in front of her, pointing to the side with a stern tone. "Don't you watch where you're going? She's pregnant. If you accidentally hit her, can you afford the consequences?"

The young man kept apologizing but never showed his face. Angela scolded him a few more times and then let him leave from the other side.

Then she turned to Candice. "Are you okay? You scared me. Luckily I came out in time."

Frightened, Candice asked Angela, "Why did you come out?"

"Here." Angela looked at the wheelchair behind her. "I brought this for you. Since your doctor said you shouldn’t move around, you should just stay put. Why did you run out? It's dangerous."

Candice couldn't care less about anything at the moment. She suppressed her palpitations from what had just happened and sat back in the wheelchair.

As Angela pushed her back inside, she sighed. "Being a beauty is really something. Even when you just go out for some fresh air, there's someone caring about you." Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

However, Candice was lost in thought and did not hear her words at all.

It seemed like today was particularly unlucky for Candice. As soon as she entered the meeting room, she bumped into Darius as he came out.

He looked down at her, his eyes cold and indifferent, as if she were a stranger. Which made sense too. They were strangers to each other.

Angela whispered to her as she pushed her. "Setting aside everything else, Darius does look like he's trying to act sophisticated but is failing miserably."

When they entered, Alex was still there, surrounded by many people, most of whom were from other studios.

Candice asked Angela to take her back to her previous position, where she could focus on studying the new requirements.

Her study continued till the end of the meeting, and coincidentally Hanley came in from outside.

He had been busy all afternoon, receiving various phone calls non-stop. Although Candice asked him to handle things first, saying she would return to the hospital on her own, Hanley did not agree.

When they left, Angela was still with them. She had met Hanley before, so they talked comfortably.

They had walked a few steps when there was a sudden scream from upstairs.

Before Candice could react, someone grabbed her waist from behind and pulled her back.

There was a crisp sound of something cracking at her feet.

Their surroundings instantly fell silent, and Candice looked down at a small teapot that had shattered a few steps in front of her, her heart racing.

Angela also reacted and shouted towards upstairs. "Who's the one with no manners, throwing things from upstairs? Do you know it could hit someone? If you have the guts to throw things, have the guts to come out and let me see who you are. I'm telling you, I'm calling the police right now!"

Angela's voice brought Candice back to her senses, and her expression darkened visibly.

She was not stupid. If this morning was an accident, then with this now, it was obviously intentional.

This person wanted to kill her.

"Scared silly?" A deep voice sounded above her head, and only then did Candice realize she was still being held. A familiar pine scent filled her nose, and she knew who it was without turning around.

Alex's hand was around her waist, clearly protective, but his actions were very gentle.

Sawyer came down from the stairs behind them, still trembling with fear. "Mr. Elysian, are you okay?"

They had been walking behind Candice. When they heard the scream, Alex hadn’t hesitated to step forward quickly and pull Candice away.

Candice slowly broke free from Alex's embrace. She looked down at the teapot, then looked upstairs which was empty.

The entire conference room had a total of eight floors, with a window open on each floor.

"Candice, are you having a bad day today? No, have you been having a bad month with your horoscope? You're really unlucky." Angela couldn’t help but advise her, thinking about Candice's recent experiences. "I think you should go to a temple and pray."

"Let's talk about it when we get back," Hanley said as he pushed the wheelchair in front of Candice. He had been holding the wheelchair, walking beside Candice, but hadn’t been able to react in time.

Candice nodded, then looked at Alex. If it were not for him just now, she didn’t dare to think about the consequences.

"Thank you," she said softly, her voice trembling, something she had not even noticed.

Alex looked at her, frowned coldly, and his black eyes were like a storm brewing. He did not respond to Candice's words, but instead called Sawyer. "Go check the surveillance."

Sawyer acted quickly, and soon there were results.

However, the footage was disappointing. The security cameras upstairs happened to be under maintenance in the afternoon and had all been turned off.
