Chapter 0408
Chapter 0408
Suppressing his unease, Sawyer addressed Alex, "Mr. Elysian, what's the plan regarding Ms. Summers?"
He understood why Alex hadn't taken action against Sonia for so long.
Previously, Horizon Holdings had targeted Sonia and manipulated her to steal confidential information, causing significant harm to their company. The headquarters were dissatisfied with Alex's failure to handle the situation.
Initially, Alex was supposed to return to headquarters, but his transfer was delayed due to prolonged objections from the board of directors.
Because Horizon Holdings had outwitted him, Alex wasn't prepared to let it go easily, which was why he had to rely on Sonia.
However, as Sawyer glanced at the surveillance footage, a sense of unease washed over him.
In the next moment, he heard Alex's voice, laden with complex emotions, questioning, "Do I need to spell it out for you?"
Noticing the icy glare in Alex's eyes, Sawyer immediately grasped the situation. He straightened up and replied, "Understood, Mr. Elysian. I'll address it promptly."
"How do you plan to handle it so late at night? And where will you address it?" Alex's chilly voice echoed before Sawyer could leave.
Feeling stuck in place, Sawyer was torn between leaving or staying.
In the end, Alex snorted dismissively and quickly passed by him.
Sawyer finally regained his senses. Yet, he hesitated to follow his employer immediately. It was clear to anyone that provoking Alex at that moment would be unwise.

Candice and Barox made their way back to the hotel.
Shortly after their return, Barox received a call downstairs, leaving Candice to head upstairs alone.
That evening, she had little appetite, only nibbling on something at the hotel's restaurant before retiring to her room.
Discovering multiple missed calls from Henry on her phone irritated her greatly. Annoyed, she powered off her phone and attempted to sleep, but sleep eluded her.
Instead, she found herself studying Redshade Corporation's proposal until the early hours of the morning.
Consequently, when she arrived at the conference hall the following morning, Angela asked, "What were you up to last night? Your boyfriend is indeed young, but you shouldn't overdo it, especially since you're pregnant. Candice, you're quite daring!"
Candice rubbed her temples and explained, "I suffered from insomnia last night and spent the night reviewing business proposals."
She had only managed to fall asleep in the wee hours. After waking up past eight, Candice hurriedly prepared for the day. She headed straight to the conference hall due to her concern about potential traffic jams.
Having skipped breakfast, she encountered Barox at the door, who had brought her breakfast. Grabbing it, she rushed to the conference hall.
Fifteen minutes before the meeting officially began, Candice opted to eat her breakfast outside. Angela followed her outside.
As they reached the doorway, they collided with Sawyer, who was carrying a large box.
"Hey, watch it! Why are you up so early?" Angela exclaimed.
Sawyer offered an apologetic smile before turning to Candice and stating, "Mr. Elysian has arranged breakfast for everyone."
Those in the arts were not accustomed to being early birds. Inside the conference hall, some were yawning, while others were enjoying their breakfast.
Upon hearing Sawyer's announcement, everyone perked up and approached with smiles.
The breakfast provided by Alex had been purchased from a nearby café and was delicately presented and delicious.
As Sawyer distributed the meals, Candice paid him no mind and continued walking out of the room.
"Hey, where are you off to?" Angela called out, a cup of coffee in hand.
"The coffee beans from this café are from Sepros and quite popular," she added, introducing the coffee's origin.
Candice replied, "I've been steering clear of coffee lately."
Understanding, Angela nodded. "Right, considering your pregnancy, it's best to be cautious."
Before Angela could finish, a voice called from behind, "Candice."
Candice turned to see Sawyer holding a glass of milk and snacks. He handed them to her, saying, "Mr. Elysian suggested you stick to just milk."
She glanced at it briefly before averting her gaze and stating, "You can keep it. I can't eat that much."
She was still holding the breakfast Barox had brought for her. Barox had tailored it to her preferences after discussing it the night before.
Clearly, Candice had rejected his offer.
Sawyer's heart pounded, his expression a mix of bitterness and embarrassment as he said, "I'm just following orders. Making things difficult for me won't help."
"You shouldn't make it difficult for me either," Candice retorted.
Sawyer opened his mouth but was speechless.
Angela blinked but remained silent, wary of interfering.
It was evident to everyone. Alex's invitation to breakfast was actually meant solely for Candice. Otherwise, he wouldn't have specifically arranged for milk from a different shop.
Angela thought it was a shame. Alex should have handled it personally; it would have been a romantic gesture. Instead, he had delegated it to his secretary.
As Angela pondered, a slender figure approached.
Alex ascended the stairs slowly, his gaze cold. It passed over Angela and settled on Candice, then on the milk in Sawyer's hand.
Sawyer greeted him quietly.
Addressing Candice, Alex remarked, "I recall you didn't have lactose intolerance before."
Candice wanted to leave the moment she saw him. Pausing at his question, she replied sharply, "That's changed now."
Alex's gaze shifted to her, and he frowned slightly at the toast she held. He asked, "What nutritional value does that offer?"
She found his behavior absurd. Facing him squarely, she retorted coldly, "What I eat is none of your concern, Mr. Elysian. Whether it's nutritious or lactose-intolerant, that's my own business."
If Angela could see through Alex's intentions, why couldn't Candice?
However, deep down, she still suspected that Alex's actions were a facade, perhaps motivated by concern over what they witnessed the previous night. He might be using these gestures to help Sonia get away.
Candice pressed her lips together, maintaining a neutral expression.
Although Alex had shielded Sonia from her past misdeeds, this time, Sonia had directly targeted Candice. In such a scenario, why should she let Sonia off the hook?
His brows remained knitted together.
Meeting his dark gaze head-on, Candice's expression conveyed determination, and her tone was stubborn as she declared, "You can't protect Sonia this time." Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Following her statement, she glanced at the milk in Sawyer's hand and stated matter-of-factly, "I didn't have lactose intolerance, but if it's from you, drinking it would surely make me sick."
With that, Candice walked away decisively.
Angela observed the interaction between them, unaware of the incident from the previous night. After a quick exchange with Alex, she hastened to follow Candice.
Once they had both left, Sawyer awkwardly remarked, "Mr. Elysian, I told you she wouldn't want it."
Alex fixed him with a cold stare, cutting him off. "Then dispose of it."
Sawyer promptly swallowed his words and refrained from speaking further.
