Chapter 0441
Chapter 0441
Alex's tone was heavy, much like the rain outside, each drop sending a shiver through the air.
At that moment, Candice recalled Jackson's words about someone from Solaris pulling strings for Sonia.
Candice's expression darkened slightly. It dawned on her that it might be Darius.
Yana exclaimed in disbelief, "What do you mean by 'someone'? You're not just making this up, are you? It feels like something you could fabricate. And about the medical bail, what illness does she have?"
Candice regained her composure, her gaze fixed on Alex, more intense now.
"It's true," Sawyer interjected.
He had been listening to their conversation and glanced at Alex before countering Yana's doubts, saying, "Someone has been actively obstructing the case from Solaris' side. On the day Candice won her lawsuit, my company also filed an appeal against Sonia for stealing trade secrets."
"Furthermore, Mr. Elysian has been cooperating with various investigations these past few
days. But for some reason, there's been continuous interference from someone in Solaris, though we still don't know who's behind it."
After Sawyer finished explaining, Candice furrowed her brows slightly.
Yana scoffed disdainfully and rebuked, "You make it sound so convincing. Does Sonia have a big backer in Solaris, then? You're wearing so many cuckolds, Alex."
When they arrived at the villa and the car came to a stop, Yana's phone rang.
Without hesitation, Yana opened the door and stepped out to answer the call.
Candice stayed put.
Alex glanced at her and then at Sawyer, who promptly exited the car.
As the door opened, a mist of rain entered. Candice got straight to the point, saying, "The person from Solaris must be Darius."
Stunned, Alex's dark eyes focused on her as he asked, "How do you know?"
Candice shifted her gaze away from Alex and remarked, "Sonia let it slip the other day. Plus, Quentin probably isn't capable of that kind of influence."
The fact that someone could exert power from Solaris to Dorrington showcased their immense influence. Despite her doubts, Candice could only analyze the situation calmly. NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
Moreover, apart from Alex, no one in Dorrington knew about her connection with Darius.
Though her thoughts churned beneath the surface, she kept her emotions in check.
After a brief pause, she asserted, "I'm not sure about the relationship between Darius and Sonia, and whether you believe it or not is your call, but I won't let Sonia off the hook so easily. Whether it's Darius or you, no one can stop me."
With that, Candice reached for the car door, pausing as if considering something. She glanced down at her hand resting on the car door.
Her voice remained firm as she added, "Also, I don't need to hear unnecessary words or receive unnecessary concern from you."
With those words, Candice stepped out of the car.
Yana hurried over just in time, shielding her with an umbrella. Candice whispered a thank-you and headed back with her.
Behind them, Alex leaned against the passenger seat, his expression hard to read.
Sawyer, who had just settled into the car, hesitated before speaking up, "Mr. Elysian, should we head back to the office or headquarters? The chairman has scheduled a meeting at three for this afternoon."
Alex paused for a moment before responding, "Let's head back to the office first. Is the issue with Horizon Holdings resolved?"
Sawyer glanced at Alex, holding back something he wanted to say.
Ever since their time at Solaris, Alex has been making arrangements to deal with the stolen secrets from Horizon Holdings. The whole company had been working overtime for a while, and finally, progress was being made.
Alex's decisions were firm. With Sonia diverting Xavier's attention, he could proceed with his plans, albeit slowly.
Now, with Horizon Holdings facing internal turmoil, they were one step closer. However, concerns remained with headquarters and Daniel.
Sawyer couldn't help but feel a hint of worry about the situation.
Once back at the villa, Yana promptly ushered Candice into the bathroom, advising, "You need to take a quick shower. I'm worried you'll catch a cold. If you do, Hanley and Jackson will definitely blame me."
Feeling chilled from the rain, the warm water was a welcome comfort for Candice.
After her shower, Candice came out to find Yana lounging on the sofa, completely absorbed in her phone.
Spotting Candice, Yana piped up, "Got any ideas for where we should go? Nadia's asking in the group chat about our year-end holiday plans."
Candice asked, "Are you all planning a trip?"
Yana glanced up and reminded her, "Remember we talked about going on vacation together at the end of the year?"
Candice had totally forgotten about that. Between work and the lawsuit, it had slipped her mind, especially during her hospital stay.
She suggested, "Stugan could be nice. The weather there is usually pleasant."
Yana nodded, still focused on her phone, saying, "Okay, I'll let Nadia know. We can decide later by voting."
Candice hung out in the living room for a bit before heading back to the study.
Even though she had Jensen's approval for the studio bid, their success ultimately relied on their abilities.
While Candice was in the hospital, Hanley took charge of the project. Now that she was back, it was only natural for her to continue the work.
Shortly after firing up her computer, her phone buzzed on the desk—it was Darius calling.
Candice had a bad feeling about it. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to pick up.
Darius's voice came through, saying, "Heard you're out of the hospital."
Candice clenched her hand, trying to keep her voice steady. "How did you know?"
Ignoring her question, Darius paused before remarking, "You're smarter than I gave you credit for."
Candice waited for him to elaborate.
And sure enough, a moment later, Darius's cool and casual voice came again, "I suppose you should be smarter, right?"
Candice sensed the implication. She questioned, her voice deep, "Why are you helping Sonia?"
"She's such a fool. I can't stand stupidity," Darius replied nonchalantly.
"Candice," he continued as if discussing the weather. "Let's strike a deal."
Meanwhile, Alex headed straight to the GT716 Club after wrapping up the meeting at headquarters.
Sieg sat in a corner, lifting his glass from afar and teasing, "The busy man finally shows up, huh? I was about to get on my knees and beg you to join me, you know?"
His tone dripped with sarcasm. Alex shot him a blank look and muttered, "Busy."
Undeterred, Sieg pressed on, "Exactly, busy jetting off to Solaris for a romantic adventure with Candice. Geez! Alex! You're full of surprises."
Alex glanced at him, his dark eyes growing more serious in the dim lighting.
Oblivious to the tension, Sieg continued, "What's the deal, Alex? I'm not the villain meddling in a friend's love life, am I?"
He raised an eyebrow, questioning, "We're brothers, right? You wouldn't do that to me, would you?"
Alex stayed silent, pouring himself a drink and downing it in one go.
Sieg's grin faded, a vein pulsing on his forehead.
Watching Alex place his glass down without a word, Sieg couldn't contain himself any longer. He slammed his glass on the table and cursed loudly, "Fuck!"
