Alex and Sonia’s relationship spread like wildfire in the company. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Candice no longer took the CEO’s private elevator to her workstation. She got to the office five minutes earlier and used the public elevator with the other

employees.

The reason was that Alex and Sonia were always together coming to and leaving the office.

Candice was later than usual because of a traffic accident. When she arrived at the

top floor, she saw Alex and Sonia coming out of the CEO’s private elevator together.

Sonia’s hands were curled around Alex’s arm and she had an adorable smile on

her face. When she saw Candice, she looked startled but then a sweet smile reappeared.

“Good morning, Candice.”

Candice glanced at her hand holding Alex’s arm. She plainly said, “Morning.”

Sonia then realized that she was still holding Alex’s arm. She stuck out her tongue apologetically and let go of his arm. She looked at Alex cheekily and said, Candice saw us. What are we going to do?”

Alex looked at Candice. “She can watch us if she wants to.”

Not wanting to witness their intimacy, she turned around and headed to her desk. Her heels clicked as she walked across the office.

A few steps later, she even heard Sonia affectionately call out, “Alex.”

Later in the afternoon, Sonia came out of Alex’s office with a bitter expression. She stood in front of Candice and said as she bit her lips, “Candice, Mr. Elysian is looking for you.”

It baffled Candice as there was no reason she could think of for him wanting to see her as most of her tasks were handed over to Sonia.

Sonia noticed Candice’s silence. She urged, “Mr. Elysian is waiting.”

Candice was replying to a client’s email, so she simply said, “Is there something you can’t do by yourself? I’ll teach you. Though I’m quite busy now.”

Candice’s words sounded different in Sonia’s ears and the intern’s already bitter look worsened.

Candice found out why Sonia looked bitter after meeting Alex.

Alex’s father, Daniel Elysian, was having a birthday party happening soon. Helen got news of his new girlfriend, Sonia, from some reliable sources, so she urged him to bring the girl home.

Alex looked at her. “She can’t deal with my mother yet.”

“So you’re asking me to take her place to suffer?” Candice asked.

She knew Helen was extremely strict in choosing her future daughter–in–law. Candice had had a hard time with Helen during the first time she visited the Elysian family as well.

Back then, Alex did not prepare her for anything even though he was well aware that she would never leave in one piece.

Candice curled her lips. “What if I say no?”

“Sure.” Alex was unfazed. He spun the pen in his hand and then put it on the desk.

He said, “You better think it over.”

Only the two of them knew what he meant.

A moment later, Candice nodded. “Of course.”

On the day of Daniel’s birthday, Candice got off work and waited for Alex at the parking lot.

She had agreed to attend the birthday celebration with him.

However, Alex did not show up.

Since it was getting late, Candice texted him but he did not reply. She went back up to the office to look for him.

There was no one around. Her expression turned grim.

She asked a colleague who was working late, “Where’s the CEO?”

The female colleague was slightly surprised. “Mr. Elysian left with Sonia.”
