Nine months too late: After divorce

Chapter 13

"We really wish he'd release that land to us. It's of high value and was meant to do a whole lot of good for us, but the bastard..." she clicked her tongue. Sylvie cleared her throat. She didn't have the urge to eat anymore.

I'm... I'm so sorry for...

"Oh, you don't have to be," Victoria cut her off with a smile. "It isn't your fault darling. As a matter of fact, I'm glad you left him already."

Her smile widened as she looked at Westley. "And I'm glad you're with my son. You two look good together"

Sylvie's heart skipped a beat. Oh, goodness.

She chuckled nervously.

T.... thank you, ma'am."

"Please, mum, let her eat. See, she can't even eat anymore, Westley said before his mother would say any more word.)

"Oh, I'm so sorry, dear. Now, do eat up."

But Sylvie couldn't. It wasn't because she'd lost her appetite, but because she didn't feel like eating what was in her plate anymore. And unfortunately, what she felt like eating wasn't even on the table.

When the dinner ended and Westley took her home, Sylvie kept thinking of her relationship with him. Although, they've become really good friends, Sylvie could tell when it was becoming a little above friendship.

Westley was a nice guy, but she couldn't continue leading him on when he didn't know she was pregnant. No man would be in a relationship with a woman who was pregnant for another, so Sylvie was certain he'd leave her the moment he finds out. Reaching home, he led her out of the car as usual and planted a kiss on her forehead.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

"Goodnight," he hushed.

"Goodnight."

Kage emptied his glass, sending the cold drink down his throat, his eyes on the image on the phone.

His heart burnt with rage as he refilled his glass, then continued staring at the picture.

In it was a picture of Sylvie and Westley, seated together and having dinner.

She was putting on a red gown, a red lipstick that matched and had a fucking smile on her face. She was looking down at her plate, but Westley was staring at her.

One of Westley's sisters had uploaded the picture, alongside others on her personal story, an acquaintance of Kage was her mutual and was able to see it, so, he sent the image to Kage.

Kage didn't expect to feel anything after seeing the picture. He shouldn't feel anything. Yet, he couldn't control the rage that simmered within him.

He couldn't believe she had gone to his place for dinner. With his family. They had gotten that close, haven't they?

Perhaps, he felt that way because he knew she had met Westley when they were still married. Well, she could go fuck herself. He emptied his glass and went for another refill.

"Are you alright?" Lana's voice reached him before she showed up beside him.

12:39 PM00

Wrinkling his nose, Kage glanced at her before looking away.

"I'm fine," his voice was hoarse.

"You sure? You've been drinking in like forever, she placed a hand on his back.

Kage remained quiet as he drank from his glass.

Realizing he wasn't going to say any more, Lana decided to let him be.

"Annalise wants me to come make a choice for my wedding dress," she smoothed his back with her hand. Tll be going over

tomorrow."

All he did was nod.

"And you? When will you be getting your suits?" She asked.

"I don't know, I've been busy, Lana

"O..kay, but you know the wedding is scheduled for next month, right? We need to start taking the preparations seriously."

Although, preparations were already ongoing. Their both parents were already getting ready, but Lana didn't like how nonchalant Kage was about it

Closing his eyes, he exhaled deeply. "Now is not the time, Lana, not tonight. I want to be left alone."

Lana frowned. He wasn't always like that. Clearly, something was wrong with him.

She hoped it had nothing to do with the bitch's return. She learnt that Kage had a meeting with her the previous day.

Six weeks ago, Kage had confronted her over the night he was drunk. Lana had to tell him the truth, or half of the truth. She told him he had indeed, raped Sylvie, but she decided to cover it up so he wouldn't feel regretful. She knew he'd appreciate 'forcing himself on her t She was most relieved when she heard that Sylvie lost the pregnancy.

"Take care," she patted him on the shoulder before leaving.

"What? But this is not possible! No part of the contract stated this," Sylvie complained to Mr. Ambrose who was giving her some shitty development to the project.

"I know, I know, but it is also for the best. Working with him will make the project faster Sylvie, and the faster it is done, the faster we can all get back to our lives," the man was insistent.

God-damn it.

"But it doesn't make any sense! I don't see why I need to work from his company. That'd require me working for him!" "And it's only for a few weeks. Really, what's

the problem here? You know how much money is at stake here, Sylvie. The profit. is huge. You need to be there to supervise the project

"But I don't want to. I don't like the idea!

Ambrose's face hardened. "I told you, didn't I? I told you I hate it when people can't differentiate between business and family. Business and personal feelings. To be honest, I can't do business with such people."

Sending her fingers into her hair, Sylvie paced the office, cursing under her breath. She gave her bottom lip a hard bite and released it when she stopped in front of Ambrose again

"Did Kage ask you to do this?" She asked,

Ambrose lifted his gaze from his system. He gave Sylvie a long stare before shrugging. "I told you he was bringing most of the money in

Rage tinged Sylvie's checks with crimson. That miscreant! She knew it was him!

The son of a bitch wanted her to work for him, to answer to him!

She groaned in the office, gripping her hair tight. God, no. She couldn't be close to him. Her condition.

Ambrose resumed his work, not wanting to listen to any more of her

Disgruntled, Sylvie stormed out of the office.

Reaching her car, she called him. Her heart beat faster with rage.

She hated that he could control her, he could get what he want.

Her grip on her phone tightened when he picked up.

"Who's this?" His grumpy voice came.

protests.

Sylvie flinched. Was he trying to say he didn't have her contact saved anymore?

"You know who it is. Why the hell would you want me to work from your company!?" She couldn't control how rude she sounded.

"Oh, Sylvie," he paused. "Well, you should know me, I wouldn't even want to get a whiff of your scent, but this is business, Sylvie, I hate investing in wasteful projects. So, I need you here to make sure the work is being done properly. As soon as the project is over, you can "Like hell, yes! I'm not a baby, Kage. I can take care of the project from my own end."

"Okay, I won't say you can't, but I want it here, Sylvie. I want it to be done here."

Sylvie cursed under her breath.

"Look, it's fine if you don't wanna do this. I respect your decision. But just bear it in mind that the deal will be off. Have a nice day if you want."

-

He dropped the call,

Sylvie groaned as she repeatedly hit her hand on the steering. Damn it! Damn him!

She wanted to O scream.
