Chapter 145
Dawson Immediately got the hint from lan and joined in the teasing. “What a splendid Ideal Attorney Clara won’t have to face a lawsuit, and our Mr. Hayes gets hitched. It’s a win–win. How perfect!”
He even went as far as to flash a “perfect” sign right in front of Heidi’s eyes.
Heidi was so furious that she could almost bite off her tongue. Was she inadvertently weaving a wedding gown for Clara?
Heidi’s face was a canvas of emotions, turning from pale to flushed in seconds. She couldn’t help but let out a cold chuckle internally. She shot lan a glare. “In your dreams! I’d rather do time than be with you!” Then, she spun on her heel to leave.
lan caught her wrist in a firm grip. “Clara, you can’t just walk away from me. I got hurt for you; you can’t ignore that.”
He held onto Clara’s hand with a tenacious grip, and his eyes brimmed with an indefinable sorrow. It was almost like watching a lovesick drama.
As Dawson watched his boss trailing after Clara, he turned to Heidi with a cocky tilt of his head. “Ms. Heidi, see that? True love can change a person. When have you ever seen Mr. Hayes this clingy? He’s like that only with Attorney Clara. They’re quite the pair. Don’t you think?”
With a nod and a smug smile, Dawson tipped his hat to Heidi and sauntered out.
Heidi’s rage was at a boiling point. In a fit of anger, she knocked a nearby first–aid kit to the floor. Her eyes, dark with malice, followed Clara as she left. “Clara, you won’t get away with this!”
Just a few steps out, Clara halted and turned to lan with a frosty gaze. “Do you really believe I set you up?”
lan’s eyes were deep and earnest. “I almost wish you did.” At least that would mean she still cared, that she was still jealous over him.
Clara scoffed. There was a hint of derision on her face. “I’m not Heidi.” She wouldn’t stoop to any means just to get what she wanted, especially when what she wanted was nowhere near being this man.
lan’s heart clenched at the sight of her sneer. She was no longer the Clara from three years ago, ready to throw caution to the wind for him.
He offered a bittersweet smile. His voice was slightly hoarse. “Let me take you home. I’ll handle the rest.”
He escorted Clara back to her place and even got her some late–night grub. Then he just stood there at the foot of the building, watching her walk away.

He wanted to hold her from behind, follow her upstairs, and relive their wildest moments, He missed her so deeply it hurt.
However, he knew that pursuing her now would only push her further away. He wanted more than Clara’s body; he wanted her heart, devoted to him as it once had been. Memories of their past together brought a sour taste to lan’s heart.
No sooner had lan sunk into his car seat than he saw Anders and Ryker hustling over from the other side.
“Clara!”
“Ms. Clara!”
They rushed to Clara, scanning her from head to toe with worry and urgency in their eyes.
“Clara, are you hurt?”
“What on earth happened? I’ve been trying to call you, but I couldn’t get through. Then that jerk lan says you were kidnapped. We wanted to come rescue you, but he wouldn’t let us. Don’t tell me this was his scheme all along getting you kidnapped so he could play the hero and earn your gratitude?”

Ryker was in full flow when suddenly someone kicked him in the rear. A chilly voice. followed from behind.
