Chapter 25 The Misunderstanding
Chapter 25 The Misunderstanding
“Miss Bentley, sorry to bother you. The contract I brought home got the stamp of Chelston Bentley
Group and everyone is having some doubts.”
“Oh, about that, you guys don’t need to worry. I will be holding a press conference shortly to announce
my acquisition of Chelston Healthcare Group. If you still have some concern, you can wait for that.”
Nobody dared to question Selena Bentley.
Carrie’s eyes were wide open. She couldn’t believe that Calvin really did it.
And it was five hundred thousand dollars.
Two hundred thousand more than they expected.
“Thank you, Miss Bentley. Sorry to interrupt you like that.”
He hung up the phone and looked at Carrie, “Now, can you trust me?”
Carrie didn’t know how to answer. She felt like her face was burning.
The loser who had always listened to whatever she said suddenly brought back a contract worth of five
hundred thousand dollars and saved the Houston's Clinic.
She was actually kind of satisfied.
But Carrie Houston would never give in.
“What? You’re gloating? It’s just a contract. So what? I don’t care about that five hundred thousand
dollars. Don’t forget what we provided you in the past two years...”
Before she finished her sentence, Calvin took out another file.
“A reservation contract of medical supplies outsourcing worth of one million dollars. Is it enough for
you?’
The Houstons were all shocked. They stared at him with disbelief.
He not only had accomplished an unlikely practical cooperation, he also had gotten a contract worth of
one million dollars.
Carrie immediately responded, “Impossible.”
Lewis grabbed the contract and took a closer look. He was thrilled.
“It’s true. It’s really worth one million! Calvin, great job! This business is a sure bet.”
Normally, Calvin would be happy to get a compliment.
But today, he was faced with too many doubts and questions. He was not a man of steel and his
feelings were really hurt.
Carrie was quite gloomy. The first thing crossed her mind wasn’t how much money the Houston family
would make but was whether Calvin could be tamed after this.
Why could he be so good at this? What kind of loser was he?
“That’s not a big deal. It’s only luck.”
Rita had been silent until she suddenly said with jealousy, “It’s not luck. He’s got someone’s help.”
Carrie was puzzled, “Help? From whom?”
Rita got even more furious. She didn’t expect that this contract was given by Selena. He didn’t work
hard at all.
It was really generous of her. She gave him $ 1.5 million at once.
Was that home wrecker trying to give this to her as the part fee?
No wonder he wanted to divorce her.
Seeing that her daughter was getting mad, Carrie gasped, “Is Selena the one who helped you?”
“Who else could it be? Calvin, congratulations.” C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
Calvin was stunned, “Rita, what do you mean?”
“You got the contract and you paid off the debts you owed us. Now you get to divorce me and pursue
your happiness. Why can’t I congratulate you?”
Calvin knew she misunderstood. Nothing could happen between Selena and him.
“Rita, you misunderstood.”
Carrie scorned him in wrath, “Calvin, good for you. You stayed at home all the time and I didn’t expect
you to cheat on Rita with a chairwoman.”
Betty added, “The Internet is really convenient for cheating these days. Men can cheat on you under
your nose. Hmm, I thought he suddenly got smarter somehow. Turns out he is just digging another
woman’s gold. Auntie, you can’t let him go so easily. He wants a divorce? Better keep dreaming!”
Calvin actually didn’t want a divorce. He only said that because they forced him to do that.
But he really did consider whether he would hold Rita back.
To love someone is not to possess. As long as it was good for Rita, Calvin would do anything for her.
No one would know how painful it was for Calvin to propose the divorce.
They all just believed that he was cheating.
Seeing that Calvin remained silent, Carrie thought she was onto something and kept pushing.
“You think this is over? I haven’t asked you to compensate all the time she wasted on you. Do you
know how much her youth worth?”
Calvin yelled at Carrie, “What more do you want?”
“Go back to the kitchen and prepare our lunch! I’m hungry and have no strength to argue with you. I’ll
do the math with you after lunch.”
Calvin didn’t say anything and went to the kitchen.
Carrie spat at him and said, “Jerk. You should’ve died long time ago.”
Rita looked at his direction. After she calmed herself down, she felt less sure.
Was he really having that kind of relationship with Selena?
If she was right, would he be so okay with meeting Selena openly?
They didn’t seem to be that intimate. Was she misunderstanding him?
Why didn’t he explain for himself? Was there no need to do that? Does he not care about this at all?
Vincent slipped out of the Houston’s house like a rat.
From now on, he would never get back to his former position in the Houston family ever again.
The lunch began with Carrie’s satire.
“Why are the dishes so plain? Do we run out of salt? Oh right, the Houston family is not such a
prestigious family and we’d better live on a budget. After all, how could be compare with a billionaire
chairwoman?”
Calvin nudged the seasoning to her, “You need to dip the chicken fingers in the sauce.”
Hearing that, Carrie started to pick on another plate.
“What is that dark little thing? Is that even edible? You’re a different man now and you don’t put a lot of
efforts in cooking, huh?”
Rita couldn’t take it anymore, “Mom, it’s mushrooms. Of course it looks dark.”
Carrie glared at her, “You’re taking his side now?”
Calvin wanted to scoop some food but Carrie stopped him with her fork.
“You’ve only made four dishes. What are we gonna eat if you eat the whole thing? By the way, how can
you eat such normal plain meals now? You should go to a five-star hotel. You’re a gold-digger and you
should live up to that, aren’t you?”
Calvin put down his fork and left the room.
Carrie still couldn’t let him go easily, “Look how grumpy he’s become! I can’t even say another word
about him now. He wants a divorce? Well, it’s never gonna happen!”
When he walked to the door, his phone rang. It was Mary.
Calvin hesitated and chose to pick up the phone.
“Calvin, where are you...”
Mary seemed to be crying and she was trembling as she spoke.
“I’m home. What do you want?”
“Nothing,” she sounded pretty upset, “okay, I shouldn’t call you at all. We broke up long time ago.”
Then she hung up the phone.
Calvin looked at his phone and frowned. What exactly was she trying to say?
Before he could react to this, the phone rang again and it was still Mary.
This time, she burst out crying, “Calvin, that son of a bitch John abandoned me. He gave me all kinds
of diseases. I don’t know what to do. He’s got the karaoke bar and I have nothing. I don’t wanna live
anymore.”
Calvin was surprised that she found out she was infected.
Everyone would be scared to death when they found out they had that kind of disease.
Life mattered a lot to him. He couldn’t just ignore her completely, “Don’t be so afraid. It might be
curable. Don’t be rational. Where are you?”
“Don’t mind me. I had it coming. I shouldn’t leave you in the first place. Every time I think about the time
we were still together, I feel like that was the happiest time of my life...”
Calvin was having some hard feelings because they did have a great time together during those years.
“Mary, just tell me where you are.”
Mary gave him an address. Calvin hung up and was about to rush over there. But then Rita said behind
him, “You can’t wait to see her already? Have you ever considered my feelings? We’re not divorced
yet.”
Calvin turned around and wanted to explain. But Rita just shut the door heavily.
He had no choice but to send her a message, “It’s not what you think. I’m going to save someone’s
life.”
Under the guidance of GPS, Calvin had come to the corner of an alley. He looked up and found a place
named Perry’s Cafe. The name of this cafe was hard to recognize. It took him some time to be sure
that he was in the right place.
Why would Mary want to take her own life in a place like this?
Then he gave it a second thought and found it somehow reasonable. The houses in this area would
soon be taken down. Maybe she wanted to die in a quiet place.
He pushed the door open and was surprised by what he saw.
