Chapter 23
Chapter 23
“But… you got embarrassed in front of everyone because of me… and William Sanders even…‘
“They did that. It has nothing to do with you, right?”
It did have something to do with her! Janice cried out in her mind. For the first time in her life, she was desperately trying to take the blame for something.
“Well, if that’s all, I need to get back to work,” said Serenity, ignoring Janice’s pained look. She walked past Janice and crossed the road to sweep the other side.
Although she did not know why Janice had come to look for her today, she had no intention of forgiving Janice for what happened that day.
While she was sweeping, a person suddenly appeared in front of her. She looked up and saw that it was Peter Wall.
Peter was blushing slightly. He seemed to be mustering his courage to say something. After some hesitation, he said, “Serenity, Xyla told me that you’re not ready to get into a relationship right now, but… but I’m serious about you. I can wait for you. When… When you’re ready to date someone,
to me.‘

come
After he said that, he felt as if he said something wrong, so he added in a hurry, “No, I’m not saying that you have to come to me, I’m just saying that I’m available…”
Serenity stared at him, somewhat dumbfounded. She was really surprised. “You should look for someone more suitable for you. I’m just a sanitation worker. I don’t earn that much and my job has no future. I’m not a good candidate for marriage.”
“But I like you.” After saying that, Peter blushed even harder. “Xyla said you don’t have a boyfriend right now. I can wait for you.” Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
“But I…” She wanted to reject him again, but when she saw his reddened face and somewhat nervous expression, she fell silent. From what she could tell, he seemed to really like her, and Xyla said that he
was an honest man.
A man like that would usually make a good husband and a good father, but… when he found out that she was an ex–convict, he would probably stay away from her.
Suddenly, someone said from behind her, “Sis, mind introducing me to this guy?”
Serenity turned around and saw a familiar figure walking over. The black down jacket, black pants and black sneakers he wore were nothing fancy, but they looked really good on him. The pair of pretty peach blossom eyes under his fringe were currently staring straight at Peter with a hint of annoyance.
“He’s my co–worker. What are you doing here, Jack?” asked Serenity.
“I finished work early today, so I came to see you,” said Jack as he held Serenity’s left hand. “Your hand’s a bit cold.”
“It’s fine.” Her hand had been exposed to the cold winter wind. Of course it would be cold. She was
used to it.
Jack held her left hand in both his hands and rubbed it gently to warm it up. After her left hand was warm, he took her right hand and did the same.
Peter watched the intimate interaction between Jack and Serenity in shock. He could not help asking, ” Serenity, is he… your younger brother?”
“Mm–hmm.” Serenity nodded.
Jack glanced at Peter nonchalantly, then put his hand around Serenity’s waist and moved his face closer to hers possessively. “What time do you get off work? Let’s go home together.”
“In another half an hour. I’ll be done after I clean this road,” replied Serenity.
“Okay.” Jack smiled.
Peter felt strange as he watched them. Were they really siblings? Why did his gaze and his posture scream of his possessiveness of her?
