Chapter 49
Today is the day that Katie will use her powers. We have set up a luncheon with just the Kings, their mates, Cole, Kaite, and ourselves. Eric was not too happy they were being left out, but I had promised Cole as few people as possible, and I would keep it. I dressed in a sundress. The twins were very active today. They had been moving around all day and every now and then I was experiencing some cramping. The cramping was light and if I rested and drank some water it would pass.
My nerves might be getting to me. I needed to run Katie through what she had to do. We had told her yesterday during training, but she was not happy about using her powers against the king.
I walked into Kaite's room. "Hey," I said. She was dressed in a cute off-the-shoulder green dress. She looked so much older today than 10. She looked up at me.
"Is everything ok?" Kaite asked. "You look, I don't know, not well."
"I think it is just nerves," I replied. "Are you nervous?"
"No," she said casually. "My powers are easy. All I am asking for is the truth and hopefully he will give it without my powers. I am prepared though."
"Great Vincent and I will be there to support you. All you will have to do is push the truth," I told her. "If at any time you would like to leave, you can leave."
"Will this help stop the war?" Katie asked.
"Part of it. Our Father will still want to bring war against the king but he would be weakened without the dragon's support." I replied. If she was old enough to help. She was old enough to know the truth.
"I don't like to think of him as our father," Katie said.
"Me neither," I agreed. "He isn't much of a father."
Vincent knocked on the door and entered. "You ladies look lovely. What a lucky guy I am to have such beautiful women in my life."
Vincent came over and kissed me. Katie made a gross face. I laughed.
"Are you ready?" Vincent asked. Katie shook her head.
We headed down to the private dining room. Shortly everyone would be there. I wanted to make sure the food and drink was set so we had no interruptions. It was all ready. Vincent was to sit at the head of the table with me, Drake, and Reagan going down one side. The other would-be Katie, Cole, the Queen, and the King taking the other head location.
Everything was ready. The food was set out in the middle in warmers. Drinks were poured just in time as everyone arrived.
Reagan and Drake came in first, closely followed by Cole. To my surprise, Reagan was not marked. I quickly linked her "No mark."
"I will tell you later," she replied.
She took her seat next to Drake. She still looked very much in love. The King and Queen arrived last.
"Please feel free to eat and drink," I said as everyone took their seats. Katie was excited about sitting and talking with Cole.
"Drake and Reagan congratulations on you finding your mate. I am not aware of many cross mates. I am excited for the two of you. Drake, I will have to invite you to my family as Reagan is like a sister to me." I started the conversation.
"Thank you Filli, she is amazing. I am blessed to have been able to spend time with her. To find her here would not have happened had I not met you," Drake responded.
Reagan was red from blushing. I don't think I have ever seen our strong warrior blush before. It was good to see.
I looked up from Reagan to see the King glaring at Drake. I think I should eat quickly as we might need to put our plan into place quicker than expected. I took a few bites of my steak and potatoes. It was not long before the king made a comment. "Why must we share the company of a dragon?" the king said, but didn't stop. "Their kind is weak and evil."
I inhaled my breath knowing this was pointed for Drake's sister.
"I will show you that we are not weak." Drake popped up and walked towards the king. I quickly got between them.
"Please sit, King Drake," I requested. I heard the king laugh behind me. "You have no right to disrespect anyone."
I turned on the king to stare him down. "I wanted to wait until after we ate but we can do that now."
"I have been told a story about how you kidnapped the princess of dragons, tricked her, killed her, and held her son captive. That Cash is in truth part dragon and part wolf."Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"Lies!" he spat at me, standing.
"I want my revenge," Drake said.
"You will get it." The king and queen looked at me in shock. "You see Drake is here because I made him a promise. One that I will honor."
"I will not have that we are leaving." The king motioned to his wife and Cole.
"No father, you are not." Cole responded.
"You knew of this?" Queen Carmella said.
"Yes," Cole looked at his plate, then back up at me. "She told me last night if we do not comply she will kill our whole line. The kingdom will fall to her. She offers a very easy way out. All father has to do is tell the truth and agree to a duel." "I do not have to comply," The king said. I reached into his mind and started to press the air out his lungs. He dropped to his knees. The queen started to cry.
Katie screamed "Stop!"
She walked over to the king closed her eyes and opened them. Her green eyes sparkled. "Tell us the story of the dragon princess."
The queen looked at Katie rather than her husband. The king started to talk. "I couldn't lose power, not to your father. He had gone the witch route, but dragons were stronger. I thought if I could get a dragon/wolf child I could rule them all. I lured the princess from her room posing as her mate. She got pregnant on the first night. Her mate, feeling her betrayal, killed himself."
I looked at Drake and he nodded that it was true.
The King continued, "The princess went mad while she was pregnant, knowing after she had the child she would return with no mate. Like our mates, she felt his pain and his death. It was not pretty. It almost killed her and the child. She went into labor early and had Cash. He was not strong as I had expected. He also holds no powers like most royals. The kicker is that after she had the child, she had a complication and died herself. Did I kill her? Maybe, she died because she had Cash. The book has not entered him into as a royal. I must get him in. I will not lose my son to the dragon. They are weak, she was weak."
Katie let go of her hold on him and ran to me for a hug. I linked Millie to come get her, which she did.
Everyone was silent. We had all moved back to the table. I took a drink of my water. I looked over to Drake. A tear fell down his cheek. Reagan raised his hand to kiss it for comfort.
"Drake. I promised the truth. Now you have it," I said. "I also promised you revenge. That is yours to request. I will not do that for you."
Drake looked up at me and then at the king. The pain in his face changed to rage and he said, "I challenge you to a duel of strength. Tomorrow we will fight to surrender or death." Reagan inhaled deeply next to him. He looked down to see her tears spilling.
"I accept." The king said. "Tomorrow."
