Chapter 26: Into the Night
drink blood that is freely given.”
As she says this, a horrible, wet gurgling sound drifts through the air. It takes me a moment to realise that it’s laughter.
“Very funny, Anya,” a weak, feeble voice rasps from the darkness of the cell to my left. “Tell the girl the truth. You’d never stoop to drinking the blood of a monster like me, like David. That’s because the blood of good people tastes better, right? The sort of people who donate blood – they have sweet, wholesome, good blood.”
That’s
when I realise that the sneering disembodied voice is coming from Reggie, the pathetic figure chained up in the shadows – the prisoner who Anya said was a serial rapist.

Silence, creature!” Konstanin snaps, interrupting Reggie mid–sentence. “You will not speak to our matriarch that way.”
“Does my mother know about this secret dungeon?” I ask the only question that really matters, and Aleksandr’s face says it all. His expression speaks volumes.
She knows. My mother knows.
“Your mother understands that these men are innately evil, and beyond redemption, and we have guests to feed,” Anya says cooly, her voice devoid of emotion.
That’s it. I’ve had enough.
My mind is reeling, overwhelmed by the horror of it all. The vampires‘ explanations, their justifications, their moral gymnastics, make my stomach churn.

Anya admonishes Aleksandr, her words a warning. Not so fast. We’re not done talking about your bad behaviour,” she says sharply. “Don’t think this little distraction means you’re off the hook.”

can’t stand to be near them any longer. Everything I thought I knew has shattered, and I’m filled with a fierce determination to find a way out of this nightmarish castle. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

Why doesn’t she just ask someone to take her home? If she is not a so called prisoner. Then just ask.
