Everyone turned their attention back to Jonathan. At that moment, his face showed no discernible expression, but the atmosphere around him was chillingly cold. The group immediately fell silent.
Meanwhile, Cynthia hadn’t managed to get the answers she wanted from Filip. He had fainted again, and his entire body practically slumped on her. She had no choice but to support him as they exited the Opulence Club’s lobby.
The group, still wary of Jonathan’s reaction, kept a close eye on his face.
Bruce, with his reckless mouth, spoke up again. “Roncrity may be a small town, but women here are surely bold, daring to cheat on Jonathan. Jonathan, just leave this woman to me. I’ve got plenty of ways to deal with such women. I promise I’ll make sure you get your revenge.”
Jonathan remained silent. The others took his lack of response as an agreement with Bruce’s suggestion and began to tease Bruce. “Help Jonathan get revenge? Please, you just want to get your hands on her. You’ve already got eight girlfriends, and you still want more? No one can be a womanizer like you.”
Bruce tried to find an excuse. “A slut like that needs someone like me to teach her a lesson. I’d court her first, and once I nailed her, I’d set up a poker game with two tables and tell her that all girls there are my girlfriends. She will definitely be shocked and never forget this.”
Bruce continued to fantasize out loud about how he’d toy with Cynthia, becoming more explicit with each word. “Three days; I could have her in my bed within three days.”
The next second, Jonathan suddenly turned around and threw a punch straight at Bruce’s face. Bruce fell to the ground, completely astonished.
Jonathan took a step forward, grabbing Bruce by the collar. “Don’t you dare touch her.” With that, Jonathan released him and stormed toward the door.
The rest of the group stood there dumbfounded. Although Jonathan often seemed distant and unapproachable, he had always treated them well. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have followed him from Betrico all the way to Roncrity at his command.
But a moment ago, they had clearly seen the murderous intent in Jonathan’s eyes.
Tommy sighed. “Jonathan’s serious about that woman.”
As Jonathan exited the club, he spotted Cynthia helping Filip into her car before driving away from the Opulence Club.
Jonathan hadn’t driven over tonight, so it was too late to chase after them. Instead, he pulled out his phone and called Cynthia.
Cynthia had just picked up her phone and saw a call from “Pretty Boy“. She was about to answer, but the phone died, automatically shutting off.
The car was driving along the overpass. Cynthia took Filip directly back to the Yates residence. The Yates family had gone to bed early, so Cynthia had to carry Filip to his room by herself.
Initially, she planned to leave right after, but Filip suddenly woke up again. He clung to her hand, calling her Cyn. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Seeing that he was still in a semi–conscious state, Cynthia thought of trying to get more information out of him. However, Filip seemed to have forgotten the last three years. All he talked about were things from the past, especially their childhood
memories.
At one point, Filip lifted his shirt, pointing to a scar that trailed down his waist. “Cyn, you despise me, don’t you? You despise me because of this. But you promised you’d take care of me for life, even if I was crippled.”
Cynthia’s heart skipped a beat as she looked at the scar on his waist.
It happened when they were twelve years old, during an outdoor adventure summer camp. In the middle of the night, Cynthia had gotten hungry. She snuck out of the tent, dragging Filip with her. They stole a few packs of instant noodles and cooked them over a campfire using a small pot to boil water.
When the noodles were ready, Filip was the one to lift the boiling pot off the fire. But the handle on one side of the pot broke, spilling the scalding hot soup all over Filip’s waist. Filip was severely burned.
Cynthia remembered how serious Filip’s injuries had been–he had been hospitalized for a long time. At one point, the infection became so severe that he had to stay in the ICU for a few days. Cynthia had stayed by his bedside day and night.
When things were at their worst, the doctor had even mentioned that if the infection couldn’t be controlled, amputation might be necessary. Cynthia had cried and promised Filip that even if he became disabled, she would take care of him for the rest of her life.
After Filip was discharged, he never brought up the incident again, nor had he ever shown Cynthia the extent of his injury.
Now, for the first time, Cynthia saw Filip’s scar. His muscle was deformed, the skin uneven and discolored, a patchwork of light and dark shades. And this was only a small part of the scar
The most severely burned area had been his left leg. Cynthia could only imagine how horrifying and grotesque the scarring must be there.
Memories rushed back in an instant, and as Cynthia looked at Filip’s scar, her eyes reddened. “Filip, why would you say that? When have I ever despised you?”
“You wrote it in your diary, and you still want to deny it?” Filip looked heartbroken. “I’m like this, crippled. I’m the one who’s not worthy of you.”
Cynthia wanted to ask more, but Filip suddenly went wild, pushing her out of the room. “Go away, Cynthia, just leave me alone! I don’t need your sympathy, and I don’t need your charity.” With that, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Cynthia planned to leave, but as she was about to go, she ran into Pamela. Pamela was extremely delighted to see her, holding her hand to chat with her warmly. She insisted that Cynthia stay the night.
Seeing that it was already midnight and knowing she still had some questions to clear up, Cynthia agreed and stayed in the room next door.
That night, Cynthia couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning in bed. She wondered what Filip meant by those words, and what this diary he had mentioned was.
Cynthia got up early the next morning. When she went to the dining room for breakfast, she ran into Filip.
Filip saw her and a strange, unreadable expression flickered in his eyes. “Were you the one who brought me home last night?”
Cynthia, remaining composed, sat down and began eating her breakfast. “You were drunk. Kevin called me.”
Filip was silent for a moment. “Next time, I’ll tell them we’re separated, so they won’t bother you anymore.”
Cynthia remained calm. “Do as you like.”
Filip stared at her face. She had just woken up, with no makeup on, looking completely different from her usual refined appearance.
When Cynthia wore makeup, she was radiant and charming. But without it, she looked quite young, like a college kid. After spacing out for a moment, Filip said, “I’ve looked into the posts. It was Lilian who orchestrated it. I don’t know why she
targeted you, but for that, I apologize on her behalf.”
Cynthia didn’t react, glancing at Filip without a word.
Filip continued, “I can also compensate you. You can ask for anything.”
Cynthia raised an eyebrow slightly. “Anything?”
Filip’s face darkened, and a hint of caution appeared in his eyes. As long as it’s within my power.”
Cynthia found it amusing. It was as if he was guarding against her. “Don’t worry. I won’t ask you to leave Lilian and come back to me.”
Filip’s frown deepened.
