Please Come Back, Honey!

Chapter 8 Emma calmly interrupted him before he could finish his words. “That’s not it. I was celebrating my freedom,” she responded. “Are you going to sign it or not?” she asked with a slightly exasperated tone. Her head was pounding, so all she wanted to do was sign the papers and head home to sleep. Trevor shot her a fierce look before he grabbed the pen and signed the papers. If I refuse to sign the papers now, it’d seem like I can’t live without her, right? Who am I? I’m Trevor Bateson! I don’t need other people to keep me alive; I’m the one whom others need! After signing the papers, she turned around and pressed her baseball cap down before leaving. She had already booked an afternoon flight out of the country and she was going to leave after her nap. Clearly, there was nothing holding her back at all. Her father and brother had given her tons of missed calls last night, but she had simply transferred to them all the savings she had in her bank account before turning off her phone. She felt like she had completed her duties after giving them all the money she made from her part-time job as a scriptwriter. Meanwhile, the reporters who were waiting outside the Civil Affairs Bureau for Mrs. Bateson could not seem to find who they were looking for. In the end, they only saw Trevor leaving with a sour look on his face. The reporters then hurried over to question him, “President Bateson, have you gone through the divorce procedures with Mrs. Bateson?” None of the reporters saw Emma entering the Civil Affairs Bureau, so they were puzzled by the situation. “How is any of this your f*cking business?!” Trevor was filled with rage as he snapped at the reporters who asked, rendering them speechless. With that, he strode off into his car before anyone could say anything. … One year later, Emma and Susanna were walking out of the elevator in Alpha Productions when Trevor showed up in a black suit. He was with his assistant and they had just stepped out of Wesley’s office when he bumped into the two women. Susanna was holding a cup of coffee in her hand and she had just taken a sip when she saw Trevor. She nearly spat her coffee out before she turned to Emma and asked, “How unlucky can we be?” Emma had just completed her studies and returned to Jonestown that day itself. She was at the office to talk to Wesley about her official admission procedures as a staff of the company. Therefore, Trevor’s appearance came as a surprise to her. Susanna shot her a worried look, but the gaze in Emma’s eyes was composed and steady. It was almost as if her handsome ex-

husband was nothing more than a stranger to her. Although she had seen him from afar, she pretended not to notice him at all. She promised herself to only treat him like a stranger from the day they officialized their divorce. “I’ll head in to meet President Zurich,” she said to Susanna. Susanna nodded and Emma lowered her gaze as she walked past Trevor before entering Wesley’s office. Even though she could pretend as if he was invisible, he could not bring himself to do the same. It had been a year since they last met and Emma had turned into an eye-catching individual who easily stood out in a crowd. She transformed her silky-smooth straight black hair into a mid-length perm that made her look especially trendy and mesmerizing. Furthermore, her exquisite makeup look and attractive lip color made her seem even more seductive. She looked just as good even when she stood next to Susanna, who was a female celebrity. When Emma walked past Trevor, he could smell a feminine scent in the air around him. His Adam’s apple rolled down his throat as he thought about the passionate night they shared together a long while ago. “Hey, President Bateson,” Susanna came over to greet him. His gaze landed on her for a brief moment before he got straight to his point. “When did she come back?” “Who?” She pretended not to know what he was talking about. “You know who.” He could not be bothered to play along with her games. Only then did she put on a look of sudden realization. “Oh! Do you mean Emma? She just returned to Jonestown today. She sure has bad luck, doesn’t she? It’s almost as if she was cursed.” Susanna was clearly referring to their coincidental encounter. Trevor responded with a stiff smile, “How is that unlucky? It’s fate, you know?” She stared at him without any words coming out of her mouth. The heck? Why is he saying that? He doesn’t still have feelings for her, does he?Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
