PHB 35
After the events of that night, when Lucas deliberately teased Deasy and left the game hanging, the man didn’t apologize in the slightest. He didn’t even appear once, let alone call or send a short message. It’s been more than a week, and Lucas hasn’t shown his prominent nose.
You could say that Deasy was starting to feel lost. How Lucas used to visit, accompany, and even give her attention every morning and evening. He’d feed her and make sure she was full. And now? The man had disappeared from the scene.
Even though every morning and evening, Deasy still received food deliveries, it wasn’t delivered directly by Lucas as usual but through a courier or delivery service.
“Seriously, Lucas is so irresponsible. He promised to take care of things for nine months. How old is it now, a few weeks in, and he’s already gone. Typical guy, they’re all the same! Can they ever keep their promises?”
In her office, while sitting and staring at her phone screen, Deasy could be heard grumbling. She wasn’t sure if she was genuinely annoyed or if she was missing him because it had been nearly two weeks since they’d last met. How funny… missing him.
When it’s like this, you start looking for him. Yesterday, when he was right in front of her, Deasy acted all high and mighty and always refused. For some reason, most women often acted this way. Playing hard to get. Once he’s gone, they start to panic.
Not to mention that lately, her workload had piled up. She had grown accustomed to being helped and even having some tasks completed by Lucas. Now, she had to willingly accept being busier and handling everything on her own.
“Should I be the one to contact Lucas first? He’ll think I’m really desperate. He’ll assume I’m always in need of him. Ugh, I can’t be bothered! I’d rather preserve my dignity.”
Deasy muttered to herself. She didn’t know what she had been complaining about on her desk.
“Excuse me, Ms. Deasy.”
From outside the room, there was a knock on the door, followed by a greeting from Della, a staff member who worked under her team. As Deasy snapped back to reality, she immediately invited Della to enter the room.
“Yes, Della?”
“I just wanted to remind you that in fifteen minutes, there’s a meeting in the conference room with all the managers and the legal department, including top management. The agenda is to discuss the land expansion for the One Stop Shopping development in the Emerald area.”
Deasy nodded and then smiled.
“Yes, thank you for the reminder.”
“You’re welcome, ma’am,” said Della, preparing to leave.
“Oh, by the way, Della,” Deasy paused for a moment. It seemed like she had something she wanted to ask the girl.
“Yes, ma’am?” Della turned and adjusted her position to face Deasy directly.
“Does Ms. Deasy need something?”
Deasy shook her head. She didn’t really need anything. It’s just that for some reason, there was one thing she wanted to ask.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
“Is it true that Lucas has already resigned?”
Della nodded once.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Before resigning, he had a farewell gathering, right?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Della’s response just now startled Deasy. Afraid that Della might find it odd, Deasy tried her best to maintain a casual expression. She was looking for the best words to avoid any strange perceptions.
It wouldn’t be funny if Della started thinking all sorts of things and ended up gossiping with other employees about Deasy asking about Lucas Orion’s details.
“So, before leaving, he held a farewell party?”
For the umpteenth time, Della nodded. She even took a step closer. She deliberately moved closer to Deasy’s position to make it easier to talk.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly a party, ma’am. On Lucas’s last day here, during lunch break, he invited all the finance department staff to have lunch together. Then, in the evening, he invited us to have dinner at an expensive restaurant.”
“Oh, really? How come I didn’t know about this?”
Della tried to recall before finally giving an answer.
“If I’m not mistaken, his farewell event was when Ms. Deasy was on sick leave.”
“Oh, I see.”
“Yes, ma’am. At that time, Lucas even gave all the kids on our team some gifts as souvenirs.”
This sentence once again made Deasy flinch. Apparently, during her two days of absence from work, there was a lot of information she didn’t know.
“Gifts? Lucas gave you guys something?”
“Yeah, Ms. Deasy, those expensive Montblanc pens. He gave them complete with each of our names engraved.”
Deasy sighed inwardly. Lucas was really something else. Deasy held a direct managerial position over him at the office. Why didn’t she receive any souvenir like everyone else? Was she not valued at all? At the very least, why wasn’t she appreciated as his manager?
Was it because Deasy often acted annoyingly? Was that why Lucas excluded her?
Oh dear!
Why did she feel so irritated?
“So, each of you got an expensive pen as a gift?”
“Yes, ma’am. We were thrilled. It’s also surprising how Lucas has so much money. Those Montblanc pens cost hundreds of thousands each. Just multiply it by almost ten of us on the team.”
Deasy rolled her eyes in annoyance. Anyway, when she saw Lucas next, she swore she would tease him.
“So, after the farewell event yesterday, did Lucas contact any of you?”
Della shook her head. She then took her phone out of the blazer pocket she was wearing.
“On a personal level, no, ma’am. The last time he appeared was in the WhatsApp group, and that was a week ago,” Della said while showing the last conversation in the group with Lucas.
“Alright, if that’s the case.”
Della put her phone back. Curious as to why Deasy, who seemed to want to know a lot about Lucas’s departure, Della mustered the courage to ask.
“I apologize for asking, ma’am, but why is Ms. Deasy inquiring about Lucas? Did he leave unfinished tasks or pending deadlines?”
“Not at all. I was just asking.”
Deasy quickly denied. Instead of letting Della speculate, it would be better to end this conversation.
“It’s time for the meeting, isn’t it?”
Y-yes, ma’am.”
“Alright, I’ll leave now.”
