PHB 96
“Be patient, Luc. Deasy will be fine.”
Veronica tried to calm Lucas, who was deeply engulfed in turmoil. They were all currently waiting for updates from the doctor about Deasy’s deteriorating condition.
Truly, Lucas was haunted by fear. He was anxiously hoping that the woman he loved so dearly wouldn’t have to leave him in this way.
For heaven’s sake, Lucas couldn’t bear it. How could he go on with his life if the woman he loved so much were to leave him?
Lucas and Deasy had just enjoyed the beauty of their wedding and the happy times together. Just a few days ago, they were still lost in very intimate moments.
Lucas remembered that he had still received hugs and kisses. They even had random conversations about their soon-to-be-born baby.
This should have been a beautiful moment when the long-awaited baby was born. But instead of celebrating their happiness, nightmares were looming.
Lucas and his extended family, who should have been having a big celebration and thanksgiving, were now overwhelmed with anxiety about Deasy’s unstable condition.
“Just so you know, Luc…” Veronica continued. “In the past, Deasy was in critical condition and even worse than this.”
Lucas immediately turned to her, showing interest in what Veronica was telling him.
“Oh, really?”
Veronica nodded repeatedly, shifting her sitting position slightly to face Lucas and be more comfortable for storytelling.
“Back when I first married Darwin, Deasy took me out. I was pregnant at the time. I don’t know if it was because the car we were in had issues or maybe Deasy was just distracted, but we had a pretty serious accident.”
Lucas was startled, his facial expression becoming even more serious as he listened to Veronica’s account.
“And then? What happened to both of you?”
“Fortunately, I wasn’t seriously injured. Just some scratches in a few places. The car we were in actually flipped over, rolled, and finally hit the guardrail. Deasy, on the other hand, got trapped at one point. She even experienced quite heavy bleeding.”
“But you both received immediate medical attention, right?”
Veronica nodded. The unfortunate event was still vivid in her memory.
“Yes. We were taken to the hospital right away. I remember every second of it because I was conscious. Deasy, however, lost consciousness. Once at the hospital, she underwent surgery immediately. Just like her current condition, Deasy was declared critical and had lost a lot of blood. Not to mention the drama of running out of blood supply, which ended with Darwin donating his blood to help her. Imagine that, Luc. Darwin, who was Deasy’s archenemy, willingly donated blood to save her.”
“Oh my God.”
“But, deep down, Deasy is strong. She managed to get through that critical period. If you only knew, when she regained consciousness, she even argued and quarreled with Darwin. Even though my husband clearly helped by donating blood to save her. Your wife really doesn’t know how to say thank you.”
Lucas chuckled unconsciously. He was reminded of Deasy’s early behavior, often arrogant and not knowing how to express gratitude, just as Veronica had described.
Indeed, his wife was the most peculiar creature. Sometimes, even when she was clearly in the wrong, she would stubbornly play the victim and shift the blame onto others. Thankfully, Lucas had conquered that trait, and over time, that bad habit had changed.
“But, after that, Deasy and Darwin made up, didn’t they?”
Veronica nodded while laughing softly, recalling the past incident involving her friend and husband.
“Not immediately, Luc. It was a long process. You know Deasy’s pride is high. There was a time when she was in a tight spot and really needed help, and only Darwin could assist her. From there, she slowly lowered her ego, tried to make amends, and eventually agreed to be friends again. Well, even though they still argue sometimes. You can see for yourself how she acts when she meets Darwin, right?”
“Exactly like cat and dog,” Lucas remarked, and eventually laughed.
Veronica looked a bit relieved. At least, she managed to comfort Lucas for a while.
“That’s why, in my opinion, you don’t need to worry. I’m sure Deasy can regain her strength this time and wake up soon. Just relax. She has plenty of fight left in her. I bet she’ll wake up in no time. I’m very confident.”
Once again, Lucas chuckled, deeply appreciating Veronica’s efforts to comfort him.
As they continued to wait for the doctor attending to Deasy, Lucas chose to converse with Veronica to avoid sinking into sadness.
At that moment, a nurse approached them, handing baby Jonas to Lucas to hold.
“Sorry, sir, if I nodded earlier. As soon as you left the room, the baby became restless and fussy. I tried to calm him and gave him formula milk, but he’s still fussy. So, I intentionally brought him here. Maybe when he’s held by his parents, he’ll calm down.”
Lucas nodded in understanding. He quickly stood up, assumed the proper position, and reached for baby Jonas from the nurse’s hands.
And just as the nurse had mentioned earlier, Jonas, who had been fussy, gradually became calm in his father’s arms. As if understanding, in his father’s embrace, Jonas appeared comfortable and eventually fell asleep.
“Let me keep the baby with me for now, Sus. Besides, I want to bring him in to visit his Mom inside,” Lucas indicated, pointing towards the room where Deasy was receiving treatment.
The nurse nodded, confident that the baby was safe with his parents, and then went on with her work.
Meanwhile, the doctor who had finished the procedure came out of the room. Immediately, Lucas and the others approached, eager to hear the latest update on Deasy’s condition.
“How’s my wife, doc? She’s okay, right?”
The doctor nodded and then proceeded to explain Deasy’s condition after the treatment.
“Mrs. Deasy’s condition is now stable. The good news is that she has successfully passed the critical phase.”
“Oh, God… Thank goodness,” Lucas exclaimed, overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude. He felt a great sense of relief hearing the doctor’s positive update.
“So, when do you think my wife will regain consciousness, doctor?”
“Just pray for it to happen as soon as possible. I believe your wife will wake up soon, just like before.”
“May I visit her in person?”
The doctor nodded once again.
“Of course. But please don’t stay too long.”
After getting permission from the doctor, while holding Jonas, Lucas decided to enter the room where Deasy was. He approached her, looked at his wife who was still unconscious.
“Darling,” Lucas called softly. “Come on, wake up. Don’t you miss me?”
Lucas then sat down. He reached out his hand and intentionally held Deasy’s cold wrist, gently gripping it.
“You need to wake up, dear. You need to see our child. As per your request, I named our child Jonas Fernando Morales. Don’t you want to see him? He’s incredibly handsome, just like me.”
Lucas continued to talk to Deasy, regardless of whether his wife responded or not. What mattered was that he was trying. He prayed to God, hoping that Deasy would regain consciousness and return to her normal state soon.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“Mom and Dad are waiting for you. Veronica and Darwin are also patiently waiting here for you. Come on, wake up. So we can be together again.”
Lucas continued to gaze at Deasy, who remained motionless. He stayed quiet for a while, praying once more, hoping for a miracle to come and wake his wife.
“Darling, wake up. Jonas and I need you. Don’t sleep all day in bed, okay?”
Lucas took a deep breath. While holding Jonas, he tightened his grip on Deasy’s hand. He didn’t know how many prayers he had whispered, hoping that his efforts this time would yield results.
“If you don’t wake up soon, I’ll ask Devina to take care of Jonas. Or maybe, I’ll just marry her.”
After saying that sentence, Lucas lowered his head. A sudden wave of pain washed over him. The fear he had been trying to suppress returned. It made his defenses crumble, and reluctantly, tears welled up.
For a moment, Lucas poured out his emotions. Until, not long after, there was a slight movement from his hand, causing Lucas to snap back to attention. It was followed by a faint, hoarse voice.
“I’ll cut your penis if he dares to marry Devina.”
