Chapter 1
Sabrina Wyatt immediately saw Nelson Tucker, with his lover by his side, chatting with auction attendees at the entrance of the jewelry auction in the arts district.
Nelson's lover was a rare gem, looking gorgeous and as pure as the moon. Although Sabrina had long been aware of Nelson's sophisticated taste, she was taken aback by the beautiful woman he picked.
After staring at him for a bit, her eyes grew dry. Her friend, Abigail Lynch, felt bad for her. Holding her arm, Abigail suggested, "How about you stay out of the auction? I'll bid for you."
Sabrina flashed a faint smile at her friend. Running into her husband getting lovey-dovey with his mistress, Pamela Dixon, was not really a big deal.
Nelson didn't show any hint of embarrassment when he ran into her, anyway. In fact, he merely glanced at her coldly as though she was a stranger.
Sabrina entered the auction venue with Abigail and took her seat. Coincidentally, Nelson was seated in the row right in front of her. She saw Pamela resting her head on his shoulder. Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
However, Sabrina's attention wasn't on the couple. She was at the auction to bid for a brooch, which she had checked out twice during the preview, to give to her mom as a gift.
The old-fashioned brooch was composed of two overlapping feather shapes—one big and one small. The feathers were made of golden diamond and turquoise respectively, looking clean, and simple, yet breathtaking.
After a few rounds of bidding, the rich wives at the auction didn't continue bidding against Sabrina after noticing her deep desire for the brooch, in an act of courtesy toward the young CEO of Breeze Group.
Just when the auctioneer was about to sell the brooch to Sabrina at 6.2 million dollars, Pamela, still resting her head on Nelson's shoulders, raised her paddle.
Sabrina furrowed her brows at Pamela's sudden action. Abigail, who could not stand Pamela, defiantly raised her paddle. The two women entered a bidding war until the bidding price stood at nine million dollars.
Every time Abigail raised her paddle, Pamela would follow suit. Sabrina lowered her gaze and texted Nelson on WhatsApp. "I want that brooch."
She watched as he checked his phone before putting it back into his jacket, but he didn't stop Pamela from bidding. Inhaling sharply, she wrote to him, "The brooch means a lot to me."
She sent the text, but Nelson didn't check his phone. Her hope dwindled as she waited for his reply.
She had been married to him for three years at this time. A week after registering their marriage, Nelson went abroad and only visited home a few times per year. During each of his visits, she seemed to be the last one notified.
Today was one of those occurrences. Had she not bumped into him at the auction, she would have thought he was still abroad.
She chided herself. How could she expect a deadbeat husband to help her out?
Laughing at herself, she texted another contact on WhatsApp. Soon, Nelson got up to answer a call. When he returned, he was shooting daggers at her.
She ignored his death glares, as she wanted the brooch—once her father's possession. She had no choice but to call her mother-in-law, Shannon Hart, to pressure Nelson into giving up the brooch.
Unfortunately, things didn't unfold as Sabrina wanted. After Nelson settled in his seat, Pamela immediately put in a 20-million-dollar bid.
Incensed, Abigail tried to outbid Pamela, only to be stopped by Sabrina. In Slitton, no one could outbid Nelson Tucker.
Although Pamela was accustomed to Nelson's indifference, her heart still ached.
…
After the auction, Sabrina went over to Nelson. In a humbling manner, she pleaded, "Please give me the brooch. I'm willing to buy it at double the bidding price."
Nelson, who towered over her, stared down at her coldly. She was one-of-a-kind—a smooth- skinned and long-haired beauty. She looked up with puppy eyes, an expression that would melt hearts.
Three years ago, she had used her innocent puppy eyes on her parents, begging them, "Can I have Nelson Tucker?"
The look in Nelson's eyes hardened. "You should only pull off that trick once."
Her face paled. Did Nelson seriously think that she was trying to steal the brooch from Pamela in the same way she stole him from Pamela three years ago?
"You misunderstood—"
However, Nelson couldn't be bothered listening to her explanation. He received the brooch in a box from the auction host and left.
Panicking, she grabbed his arm. "The brooch belonged to my dad—"
He stared at her fingers on his arm with a look of utter resentment. "Let go of me!"
His gaze reminded her of the day they registered their marriage. She swirled thrice in happiness after receiving the marriage certificate.
With the same hateful look in his eyes, he snapped at her, "You're not getting anything else from me aside from the marriage certificate!"
And he had kept his word.
She was ready to let him go, but she couldn't move past the loss of the brooch she had painstakingly searched for. At the very least, she wanted to offer her mom a sentimental keepsake.
Suppressing her emotions, she pleaded, "Please, Nelson. I'm begging you…"
He pulled his arm free from her grasp. "I begged you in the same way before, Ms. Wyatt. Didn't I?"
