Chapter 28
Sabrina complied, but Nelson didn't let go of her immediately. He just smiled at her. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
She knew he couldn't be trusted.
Still smiling, Nelson narrowed his eyes and nibbled on her ear. "Are you so afraid of Gerald knowing that you're my wife?"
As Gerald pushed open the door, Nelson leisurely let go of his hand.
Sabrina crouched beside the kitchen island.
"Nelson, where's Sabrina?"
Nelson lowered his gaze and looked at her meaningfully. "She's here."
Feeling Sabrina tug at his pant leg, he changed the subject. "She accidentally spilled the fruit platter. She's cleaning up."
With a sigh of relief, Sabrina calmed her emotions and smoothed her hair.
Just then, Gerald approached and squatted down. "Let me clean up. It's hard for you to do it with your injured hand."
Nelson glanced at them both. He seemed unnecessary at that moment. He shouldn't have helped her just now.
Nelson returned to his seat, watching Gerald's attentive behavior. He suddenly wondered if this was the same man who changed girlfriends every week.
After watching them for some time, he found the situation becoming dull.
"You take care of your sweetheart. I'll be leaving now," Nelson said. His gaze lingered on Sabrina for a while before he left.
As Sabrina looked at his figure from behind, her mood soured.
He was really something, playing with her one moment and then acting indifferent the next.
It seemed he saw her as nothing more than a toy. He teased her when he felt like it, but when he grew tired or bored, he cast her aside.
As the door closed behind him, Sabrina's chest tightened.
She absentmindedly sipped on her chicken soup before saying, "Gerald, can we not meet for a while?"
Gerald was puzzled. After a moment, he asked, "Did I do something wrong?"
Sabrina shook her head. "No, you've been too good." Too good that she couldn't bear to hurt him.
"We're friends, and I'm worried about you. Don't make me leave." When he looked into her eyes, his gaze was so sincere. He noticed her sadness as well.
"I'm not single yet."
"I know."
Sabrina was puzzled.
"A lady as beautiful as you must have a boyfriend. When you said you had something to deal with last time, I thought it might be relationship issues.
"If he doesn't appreciate you, it's his loss. Spending more time with you might give me a chance." Gerald was very honest.
After a moment's thought, he added, "I won't come alone next time. If Abigail isn't here, I'll bring my cousin sister. Is that okay?"
Sabrina was rendered speechless for a moment.
Over the next few days, Gerald brought his cousin, Alissa Ingram, to see her. He accompanied her to change her bandage and even brought her breakfast and dinner without complaint.
Sabrina had to work during the day and was also trying to find someone to repair the brooch.
She asked several people, but no one could repair it perfectly.
Gerald's cooking skills had improved. As he worked in the kitchen, he overheard Sabrina's phone conversation.
During dinner, Gerald asked Sabrina about it and learned that she was trying to get the brooch repaired.
The craftsmanship of the brooch seemed simple, but it contained many intricacies. Besides Simon Nash, few people could repair it.
"Mr. Nash is already 88 years old. It's difficult to ask him for help." Sabrina had considered him, but finding Simon was harder than repairing the brooch itself.
"It's difficult, but let me try. If we can't get him, I'll think of something else."
Sabrina couldn't refuse Gerald. After all, it was another chance, so she nodded. "Then let's do our best."
