Chapter 30
Mayra couldn't contact Anderson as well. She couldn't even remember when she last spoke to him. Even when she tried to call him, she couldn't get through. Before leaving the office, Nina asked her to try to reach Anderson again. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
After finishing her study hall, Mayra went to the water station for water and glanced down from the second floor. She found Emily talking to Gordon in the secluded woods below the building. As they were too far away, she couldn't hear what they were saying.
Nonetheless, she didn't care too much. She turned around and returned to the classroom.
Emily came back within five minutes, but she didn't seem too happy. Mayra drank water while reading the textbook to preview the next lesson. This time, Emily was indifferent. She didn't speak to Mayra all day long.
During class, the most solemn physics teacher randomly selected Emily to answer a question. For the sake of their friendship, Mayra secretly told her the answer.
But Emily said, "I don't know the answer."
The physics teacher was pissed off to hear that. "It doesn't matter if you don't take class seriously, but how dare you be rude! Stand outside!"
Emily flung her book in frustration and stood outside the classroom. She didn't say anything to Mayra until the last lesson was over.
Mayra didn't bother to ask her what was happening. She simply packed up her textbooks and left after school. At the west gate, she saw Gordon pushing his bicycle.
When she stepped forward, he took her schoolbag as usual. She sat sideways on his back seat, holding the hem of his shirt and smelling the fresh scent of soap wafting from his body.
Gordon's suddenly said, "Emily came to me. I resigned from my part-time job at the barbeque stall."
Mayra was shocked. "You resigned? Why? Didn't you work there for a long time?"
He responded, "Emily is also there. I don't want to cause misunderstandings. I happen to have other things to do. I'll try my best to turn down part-time jobs in the future."
Even without asking, she could see that he did that for her. He wanted to stay away from Emily. She felt pleased when she learned that.
Mayra said, "The parent-teacher meeting is on Friday. I don't have to attend. Perhaps we can go to the library for tutoring."
Gordon suggested, "Shall we watch a movie?" Did he mean a movie date?
She puffed out her cheeks and grinned. She never imagined that one day she would be able to date him at school.
She was unsure if they were in a relationship. Even though they hadn't confirmed it, they were fairly intimate. Their relationship appeared to have gone beyond friendship.
Mayra leaned up to look at his angular profile. "Gordon, do you know it's my birthday today? I don't need any gifts. Can you make a meal for me?"
Gordon nodded without hesitation. "Okay."
...
On the day of the parent-teacher meeting, Anderson and Isabel left Candor City.
They were in the luxurious Maybach. Isabel was in a light-colored dress and had her hair tied up in a nice and gentle hairstyle. She sat next to Anderson, who was busy.
"Andy, today is Mayra's parent-teacher meeting. Come with me if you're free."
He simply hummed in response.
