Gordon didn’t hesitate to decline. “No, thanks, Mayra and I have already eaten. I need to get her home. We’ll take our leave now.”
Emily’s parents had all their attention on Gordon, so they hadn’t noticed the fair- skinned, pretty girl hiding behind him. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Grady asked, “And who might this be?”
Mayra moved forward and hooked her arm through Gordon’s. “I’m his girlfriend,
the serious kind.”
Emily’s mother, Libby Hill, gave her a once–over and shook her head, “So young and already in a relationship? Gordon, you can’t let this interfere with your studies.”
Gordon responded coolly, “You don’t need to worry about it. I know what I’m doing. We have things to do. Goodbye, then.”
Mayra sat on the bicycle’s rear seat and hugged his waist without sparing a glance at Emily and her parents. Emily clearly wanted to upset Mayra, but Mayra wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.
The young couple stopped at a café in the college town, then Mayra went on a shopping spree.
Gordon knew she wasn’t one to be confined. She thrived on freedom and independence, refusing to be controlled or forced into anything she didn’t want to do.
“You should go. Someone will be here to pick me up soon.”
“Don’t worry about what happened earlier. You don’t have to pay her any mind.”
“I don’t care at all. It’s her who does. She tried to steal my boyfriend and failed. Now, she’s just trying to annoy me. Next time, I’ll kiss you right in front of her.”
Gordon’s ears turned red at the tips.
“Wait, Gordon.”
He paused.

In front of the bustling mall, Mayra leaned forward and kissed his cheek.” Alright, you can go now.”
Gordon smiled and patted her head. “Bye.”
“Be careful.”
Mayra watched Gordon pedal away on his bicycle when a voice sounded nearby. “I didn’t expect you to like him so much.”
Mayra turned to see Serena coming out of the mall while holding a pink flip phone. She admired the photo she had just taken. “You two don’t match at all. You have such a pretty face, Mayra. You could have any guy you want. Why him? Is it because he’s older and can last longer?”
Mayra snatched the phone from her, found the photo album, and deleted the photo.
Serena loved seeing Mayra so frustrated yet unable to do anything about it.
“Don’t bother. I’ve already backed up the photo. You can delete it, but I still have a copy.”
Mayra frowned and got straight to the point. “What do you want? Money? I don’t have any.”
Serena laughed. “You owe me two favors. Don’t worry, I won’t tell Mr. Barlow about you and Gordon. After all, he asked me to keep an eye on you at school. I’ll save this photo and your little secret for when I need a favor.”
Mayra narrowed her eyes. “What did you say?”
Anderson had Serena watching her? What was he planning?
