Chapter 220 The Beginning of a Setup
Just like the first time I stepped into the conference room, the board members
were already seated. As soon as I stepped in, Mr. Plume enthusiastically patted the seat next to him. "Jae, sit here."
I nodded and sat down quietly.
Scanning the room, I noticed that no one was looking at me with the same sarcasm and condescension as before. I knew this meant they were gradually acknowledging my abilities.
Soon, Dad arrived, and the board meeting officially began.
This time, the focus was on the company's launched Al project. The goal was to appoint a project lead from among the board members.
As soon as the project overview was presented, Jack was the first to speak. "I think Jane should take charge of this project."
I raised an eyebrow at him and let out a cold scoff.
Dad turned to me and asked, "Jae, what do you think?"
I shrugged, looking indifferent. "I'll go along with whatever the board decides."
Because of my previous performance, none of the board members raised any objections. The decision to appoint me as the project lead was unanimously approved.
After the meeting, Jack caught up to me, his smile laced with provocation. "You'd better do a good job. Don't let us down."
Leaving those words behind, Jack smirked meaningfully before turning around and walking away. I watched his retreating figure, feeling nothing but calm. The moment he nominated me for the project lead, I knew exactly what he was planning.
Since he wanted me out of Brown Group, he would surely set me up and force Dad to make a choice. What I hadn't expected was that he would be bold enough to gamble hundreds of millions of dollars just to set me up.
Back in my office, I asked my assistant to gather all the basic information about the project. After reviewing the details, I immediately called for a meeting.
The team leader assigned to the project was a senior employee from the company's tech department, Rolf Jordan. The moment I saw him, I had a strange feeling that I had seen him somewhere before.
Before the meeting even began, the conference room door suddenly swung open. Jack walked in, looking completely at ease.
As I looked at him with confusion, Jack smiled faintly. "I'm just here to observe. You don't have any objections, do you?"
Lowering my gaze, I turned back to my laptop. "Do whatever you want."
If Jack was determined to set me up, avoiding him wouldn't change anything. It
was better to face him head-on. I wanted to see exactly what he planned to do to force me out of Brown Group.
The meeting progressed smoothly. The research team had already been established before I took over.
My role was simply to ensure the project stayed on the right track.
Just as the meeting was about to end, I caught Jack exchanging frequent glances with Rolf. It all made sense in an instant.
No wonder Rolf looked familiar. I had seen him in Jack's office before.
After the meeting, I returned to my office and called Zachary, arranging to meet him at a nearby café after work.
Zachary seemed a little surprised but agreed right away. When I arrived, he was already seated, waiting for me.noveldrama
As I sat down, he looked slightly nervous. "Ms. Brown, is there something wrong?"
I shook my head. "No, it's not about the investment. I just need your help with something."
Hearing that, Zachary let out a relieved sigh.
The next second, he patted his chest confidently. "Don't worry, Ms. Brown. If it's
IT-related, you've come to the right person!"
His enthusiasm was unexpectedly touching.
I pulled a flash drive from my bag and placed it in front of him. Then, I slowly laid out my plan.
What do you think?
