Chapter 222 A Perfect Solution
My words made Jack take an involuntary step back. He scoffed. "Shouldn't you be resigning in shame? If I were you, I wouldn't even have the courage to stay at this company!"
Jack's self-righteous tone made me laugh. I simply tossed the flash drive into the trash.
"Everyone should take responsibility for their own actions," I said as I picked up my laptop and walked toward the conference hall. "Since the problem occurred with the flash drive in my possession, I'll go solve it," I added.
Jack followed me, taking a seat beside me. He was another guest for the press conference.
When Dad assigned him to the event, he believed Jack would be able to support me. But now, it seemed that having him nearby was nothing more than a way to kick me when I was down.
The moment Jack sat down, he grabbed the microphone and slowly said, "We apologize, but there was a small issue within the company."
As soon as he finished speaking, a wave of murmurs rippled through the crowd.
"An issue? What kind of issue? Did someone steal the project's core data?"
"What's the point of holding a press conference if there's a problem? We should just go home."
"After waiting this long, this is the news we get? The company notified us so late. They might as well shut down."noveldrama
Jack's face gleamed with satisfaction as he heard the crowd's comments.
He stood up and spoke, his voice calm but filled with confidence. "Don't worry, everyone. We'll provide you with a reasonable explanation for all this."
As soon as he finished, I opened my laptop and connected it to the projector. Instantly, all the project's data was displayed on the screen.
I smiled and spoke into the microphone. "Apologies, everyone. That was just a little joke from Mr. Brown. There's no internal problem. You all have nothing to worry about."
Jack's shocked gaze landed on me. He never expected that I actually had a Plan B.
After managing to handle the press conference, I returned to my office with my laptop.
Jack blocked my way with Rolf following behind him, his expression heavy with concern. "Jane, what was that earlier?"
I looked up to meet his questioning gaze and smiled. "When did I ever say that I didn't have a Plan B? It was just your assumption."
Jack was left speechless. He immediately realized that I had outplayed him. His brows furrowed together, his face filled with anger.
Rolf stepped forward, hesitantly saying, "Ms. Brown, if I'm not mistaken, the data you presented at the press conference seemed a bit off."
I smiled and replied, "Off? Of course, it was off. I didn't use your data at all."
I looked at Rolf, scrutinizing him. "Isn't my data better than yours?"
I let out a cold scoff, scanning Rolf from head to toe until he nervously backed away. Then, I said again, "You don't need to be involved in this project anymore. I'll find someone else to take over your role."
After my last meeting with Zachary, I had already handed over the initial data and project goals to him.
On the surface, I was still supporting Rolf's team. But in reality, I had signed an outsourcing agreement with Zachary's studio, transferring the project to him.
The game he was working on was still under review, and this outsourced project would help him cover the financial gap he had accumulated. It also gave me a chance to secretly deal with Jack and Rolf, a win-win.
When Rolf heard this, he was shocked. He quickly turned around, looking to Jack for help.
But Jack didn't come to his defense right away. Instead, he cleared his throat and glanced at him. "Go back to your desk for now."
What do you think?
