The various skewers were prepared by Janine and her team just that morning. The meat was incredibly fresh.

The staff at the hot spring resort had set up the grill and charcoal fire.

The men took charge of the grilling. The women gathered nearby, enjoying the cooked skewers while chatting away.

Muriel and Skylar sat together. Over the past few years, they had occasionally chatted on WhatsApp. Unlike a few years ago, Muriel now exuded confidence, her face often lit up with a

smile.

“I know you reached out to me three years ago because Lizzie introduced me as a potential candidate for the job,” Muriel said calmly.

Skylar was surprised. She thought she had hidden that well. “When did you figure it out?”

Muriel smiled and recalled the moment. “One day while I was at the night market selling my crafts, I saw Lizzie, and you were with her. You left together. I really needed that opportunity to prove myself back then.

“Maybe I’ve grown up, I no longer have the reckless arrogance of my college days. I realize that if I don’t seize this opportunity, my life might never change from what it once was. So, I pretended not to know. Thank you for that. Please tell her I said thank you, too.”

“Of course, I’ll let her know. You truly are talented. Your designs have gained significant recognition over the years, and my company’s profits have also increased every year. It’s a win -win situation for both of us,” Skylar said.

Muriel nodded in agreement. “Not everyone gets a chance to turn their lives around. I couldn’t have imagined being where I am now just a few years ago. Can you pass a message to Lizzie for me?”

“Sure, what is it?”

Muriel’s

eyes reflected a hint of nostalgia and longing as she said, “I’ve never hated her.”

An hour later, Skylar was resting in one of the guest rooms of the villa. After changing into her swimsuit, she took her time before heading out.

As she admired the room’s decor, memories of her precious visit with Joe flooded back. The villas shared a similar design, making it easy to evoke old memories. After a brief moment of reflection, she decided to call Lizzie.

“Didn’t

you say your company was having a team–building event today? What made you think to call me?” Lizzie asked with a smile.

Skylar looked at herself in the mirror, pleased with her swimsuit. Janine’s taste was

impeccable. The bright pink color made her skin look even fairer. However, she still felt a bit uncomfortable wearing something so revealing.

Hearing Lizzie’s casual tone, she could tell Lizzie was in a good mood today. “Muriel asked me to pass on a message.”

Lizzie suddenly fell silent.

After a few seconds, she asked, “What does she want you to tell me?”

Over the years, knowing where Muriel was and watching her gradually achieve her initial dreams had eased Lizzie’s feelings of guilt. Yet, she still lacked the courage to face Muriel directly.

“She said she doesn’t hate you,” Skylar said softly.

When Muriel shared those words, Skylar could see that there were still feelings for Lizzie in

her heart.

Lizzie fell silent again. But she didn’t hang up.

Skylar imagined she was trying to calm her emotions.

A few minutes later, Lizzie’s voice trembled as she asked, “Did she really say that?”

“Yes. In fact, she knew all along that you were the one who recommended me to hire her,” Skylar replied.

She could feel the connection between them, even after all these years. No matter what had happened, it seemed no one could erase the bond they shared in their hearts.
