Secrets Of The Neglected Wife: When Her True Colors Shine

Chapter 360

Chapter 360:

He leaned back, looking a little lazy, but silently posing a question.

Was it really that greasy and salty? Was his cooking bad for her?

Allison felt a bit awkward and quickly defended herself. "So what if it's unhealthy? We can get away with it. I'm in my twenties now. I'll outlive this fat cat anyway."

Kellan let out a quiet "Hmm," before adding with a slight smirk, "Looks like I'll have to make lighter meals for you in the future."

He didn't seem too bothered, though. In fact, he was enjoying the moment. Allison rarely showed her true emotions, often hiding behind a mask of indifference.

But with the cat, she seemed happy, relaxed.

However, when she mentioned the orphanage, a flicker of something darker passed through his mind-Devin, another orphan, who had caused all that trouble at the company.

Though she hadn't said much, he could piece together the hardships she must have endured there.

"I had a cat too once, kind of like this ginger cat." Her hand gently stroked the cat as memories surfaced of the stray she used to feed back at the orphanage.

She spoke about the past, which was rare for her, but now, she seemed a little lost in it.

"It was an orange one too, but it wasn't this fat. It had a hard life. Died because of me."

Back at the orphanage, things had been scarce. The children fought bitterly over crumbs and scraps of anything sweet. Keeping a cat was a luxury she couldn't afford, but she tried.

Unfortunately, Devin and his followers disliked the cat.

Of course, they disliked her even more.

The cat didn't last long. It died in the yard.

Allison had been devastated. She'd fought back against Devin and the others with everything she had. That was when she first swore to herself she'd grow strong. She was done being bullied.

Now, she was more than capable of standing up for herself, but she wasn't the same girl anymore. Keeping a cat no longer crossed her mind.

Kellan felt a pang of surprise at her story.

It was rare to see Allison open up like this.

She spoke with quiet calm, as if recounting an ordinary memory, but he could feel the weight of loneliness and the quiet sorrow she hid beneath her words.

In a soft, steady voice, he offered, "In some places, they believe cats have nine lives. If one dies because of its owner, it's actually paying off a debt. They move on to a freer world."noveldrama

Kellan wasn't exactly skilled at comforting others.

But he looked into her eyes as he spoke. "So, don't blame yourself. You gave that cat some happy moments. That's what matters."

His words reflected how he saw life.
