Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 758

Chapter 758:

Hearing this, Allison deliberately guided the conversation, choosing her words carefully. “Yes, it takes quite a while to develop something like this,” she said. “But our boss asked for it a while ago, so we already have some ready in the lab.” Her tone remained calm as she added with a smile, “It’s in his office now. You’ll both definitely get what you came for.”

Colton felt a wave of relief wash over him. Still, there was something about her easy manner that struck a familiar chord. The feeling nagged at him briefly but soon faded. After all, how could Allison possibly have been on Devil Island? She was probably wandering around Vrining, enjoying a quiet trip with Kellan.

At that moment, Colton’s phone buzzed. Picking it up, he said, “Hey, Mom. How are you feeling?”

“Oh, my head’s killing me,” Lindy groaned the moment she heard her son’s voice. “If Allison hadn’t shoved me into the water last time, I wouldn’t be in this mess!”

Her words rang out sharply in the dead-quiet reception room. Allison, seated nearby, acted oblivious, her expression calm and unreadable.

Noticing her indifference, Colton responded firmly, “Mom, just focus on resting for now. I’ll make sure to get the medicine for you.”

Lindy, however, ignored his reassurance and kept venting. “It’s not just my headache — I’m jumpy, and I can’t settle down!” Colton felt his frustration grow.

“Take a couple of blood pressure pills for now,” he said, his voice low but determined. “I swear I’ll bring the medicine back this time.”

With that, he ended the call.

Melany noticed the tension on Colton’s face and stepped closer, trying to reassure him, “Colton, don’t stress too much about your mom,” she said gently. “This time, we’ll make sure we get what we need.”

After speaking, her expression clouded with regret as she lowered her eyes. “Actually, it’s my fault things turned out that way before,” she admitted. “I shouldn’t have provoked Allison. If I’d kept my cool, maybe your mother wouldn’t have ended up in the water.”

Colton’s thoughts drifted to the incident at Sunset Hill. There were too many loose ends that didn’t sit right with him. “Melany, what really happened at Sunset Hill?” he asked, his tone steady but probing.

He couldn’t shake the sense that, ruthless as Allison could be, she wouldn’t have acted without a reason.

Melany froze for a moment, her body tensing at his question. He had never questioned her before, but now doubts started creeping in again.

“Colton, maybe she just really hates me and took it out on your mom,” Melany said, her voice filled with regret. “It’s my fault for taking you away from her.”

Her expression was one of deep vulnerability, the kind that often stirred a protective urge in men.
