Chapter 15 Regrets of the Past
Chapter 15 Regrets of the Past
As soon as I asked, my mother just looked at me dimly. “Aurora, I couldn’t help it.”
She opened the door and closed it heavily, but she didn’t leave. She just leaned against the bathroom
door and started crying quietly.
My mother was famous for being tough. She would flip a table if she was upset from gambling.
Since childhood, I’ve never seen her cry.
However, this time, she was leaning against the bathroom door, crying quietly.
I watched her shoulders tremble through the frosted glass, but I didn’t know how to comfort her.
Turning on the faucet, I used cold water to wash the wounds under my feet from being stabbed by
thorns and waited for the water to warm up slowly before I started washing my body.
The sound of water covered up my mother’s sobbing.
While showering, Stowy whispered in my ear, “Don’t blame your parents. They’ve tried their best.”
I took a shower and went out. My mother already calmed down. She handed me a towel to wipe my
hair and took me downstairs.
I spoke to the police as my mother instructed.
“It’s summer recently and snakes and insects are everywhere. Yesterday David and his family of three
were sent to the hospital because they were bitten by snakes.” The policeman put away his notes and
looked at my dad. “Don’t sell snake liquor anymore.”
My dad quickly handed him a cigarette. “Of course, I won’t dare do it in the future.”
When the police left, my dad came back and looked at the empty shelves on both sides.
He took out his phone and called my grandma. “We found her. She’s fine. Don’t worry. You’ll know
when you see her tomorrow. Hmm, we’re not going back to the village for now. Okay!”
He hung up the phone, then looked at me and said, “Your uncle has cancer and is about to die, so he
ran away from home. Your aunt will report his missing tomorrow.”
“As for your cousin Melissa, it’s because the college entrance examination is too stressful. Since your
uncle disappeared, she quarreled with her family and ran away too.”
The scene of the square mouth swallowing my uncle and cousin flashed before my eyes. But Melissa
looked at me and smiled in the end.
According to my dad, he seemed to know what happened there.
I took a deep breath. “What about the villagers?”
“They won’t say it.” My dad squeezed the cigarette and laughed mockingly. “They didn’t say anything
eighteen years ago. People died this time, so they definitely won’t speak.”
I suddenly felt that I didn’t know my parents well. “How did you guys escape? Didn’t Uncle Peter detain
you two?”
Now I couldn’t distinguish between the truth and lies.
My dad looked a little hurt, but he confessed to me.
When they were looking for David, they were detained by my uncle at that cave.
But thanks to Mr. Han, this special man. He wanted to join the villagers to see the fun but was driven
away. He stumbled across my parents and then rescued them.
I didn’t know why but I suddenly remembered what Mr. Han said when he met me.
He said that he was not guarding the village but guarding me.
It seemed that there were some things that I needed to ask Mr. Han.
“Where is Pearl?” I remembered that Pearl was locked up in a cage.
“Your uncle didn’t want to hurt her. He just wanted to delay Master Chang. Master Chang was the one
who saved Pearl. I’ve already talked to Master Chang. He won’t hold us accountable.” My dad waved
his hand at me.
He said, “You’ve had a stressful day. Why don’t you go to bed? Do you want to eat anything? I’ll order
you takeout.”
He obviously didn’t want me to ask again!
I rubbed the wound on my arm. “What is the Serpent Sarcophagus? Eighteen years ago, did you and
mum agree with Uncle Peter to bury me in the sarcophagus? Why?”
For generations, several daughters of the Dragon family have been buried there. Grandma knew it, and
my parents must know it too. Otherwise, they wouldn’t return to the village to give birth to me.
But it was obvious that Melissa was older than me. Why would my parents agree to replace her with
me?
Although my dad killed Orion in the end and didn’t need to bury me, the root of the problem was
planted since then.
Besides, why did Uncle Peter determine to find the Serpent Sarcophagus? Did he want to bury himself
or his father?
When my dad heard my questions, pain flashed across his eyes, and he stood up abruptly.
He pointed at me and said, “You are my child. I can treat you, however, I want to. I should’ve just buried
you when you were born. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this predicament today!”
Suddenly, I was shocked. I looked at my dad intently. My eyes were brimmed with tears. I opened my
mouth and panted. I felt like I was choked when I wanted to say something.
It turned out that in my dad’s eyes, I was the one who caused all those things!
Yes, it was true that if I was buried back then and someone else was buried now, the problem wouldn’t
exist!
I panted heavily while something warm flowed down my face, but my eyes were still fixed on my dad.
“Then why didn’t you bury me back then?”
My dad looked at me as guilt and pain flashed across his face and was about to say something…
“John!” My mother cried and pulled me up. She stared at my dad angrily and then took me upstairs
right away.
When I got to my room, my mother just said to me, “This kind of thing happened in the village. After
several people escaped from there tonight, they died from snake poison. Your dad is also stressed out,
so he talked nonsense. You should sleep early. Everything will be fine when you wake up.”
“The Serpent Sarcophagus is calling out to me.” I lay on the bed.
I raised my wrist to show the Black Mamba Bracelet to my mother. “Do you know Orion? Uncle Peter
knew his name and even nailed his snake body down and hid it. Why?”
My mother looked at the bracelet on my wrist silently and touched my face. “Go to sleep.”
Maybe because I was so tired from a long day or it was the first time that my mother was so intimate
with me, I felt a little dazed and fell asleep.
I heard the voice of my mother talking to a man in my dream. The voice sounded a bit like Stowy.
I wanted to open my eyes to see, but my eyes seemed to have been covered. I couldn’t open them no
matter what, so I fell asleep again.
Not long after I fell asleep, I felt hot all over as if something was itching in my bones and as if
something was going to flow out.
Even if I kicked off my quilt, I sweated excessively, my face started to get hot, and my legs felt itchy.
The intimate scenes in the comics that I’ve read with Pearl secretly popped up in my head. I couldn’t
help but pull the quilt over and tuck it tightly between my legs.
However, I still couldn’t control it. I felt the itch deep in my bones.
In a daze, I heard someone calling out to me again, “Aurora, Aurora... Come on, come on!”
There were also hissing sounds of a snake in that voice, which made my body tense up even more as
if something was slowly flowing out between my legs.
“Don’t listen.” A pair of slightly cold hands covered my ears.
I had no idea when did Stowy lay beside me. “It’s the Serpent Sarcophagus.”
I looked at his face in a daze, slowly leaned over, and pressed my hot face to his, feeling a lot better.
“Aurora.” Stowy pulled me down and said in a deep voice, “The Snake’s Lust Poison is reacting in your
body.”
Orion said that this kind of poison would become more and more unbearable each day.
“Stowy, I feel so hot.” He wouldn’t let me touch his face, so I pressed my face against his hand.
Stowy sighed, “Water won’t work for this kind of poison. Put on your clothes and soak yourself in rice. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Use the cool scent of the rice to relieve the discomfort.”
I just felt weak all over. My legs kept twisting as if they couldn’t wait to become two snake tails, but my
arms hugged Stowy tightly. “I feel very hot...”
