Chapter 17 Other woman
Lunch break came, Macy and I never talk again. I knew she was looking at me from time to time but because of the intensity of the emotion I was feeling, I tried to ignore her.
Or maybe because when I see the pity in her eyes I’ll just burst into tears. She witnessed what happened. She witnessed Kian’s grip on temptation. I don’t want to cry. Even if it’s just a kiss or make-out, it’s painful.
But what if it wasn’t just a kiss? What if there was more than that? No!
Whether it’s just a smack or whatever, it’s still an act of cheating.
At lunch break, Kian picked me up out of my room. He smiled. He immediately hugged and kissed me. I sighed and smiled lazily at him.
I don’t know what I should feel. My emotions are already turbulent. My heart was not yet calm. But we are inside the university. We should not be seen by others fighting. I don’t want Jewel to see or know that we have a misunderstanding. It will satisfy her and that is the last thing I don’t want to happen.
“Beth, ” his friends greeted me. Not like yesterday, they are noisy again. Having fun and just having fun. I just nodded at them. I sat down and looked at the food in front of me. Kian probably asked his friends to order us food.
I sighed before I touched the spoon and fork. Kian was just looking at me.
“Don’t you like it, Moo?” he asked me. I smiled sparingly at him. I didn’t answer because I had already started eating. His friends fell into silence.
The other table where Jewel and her friends were seated was noisy. But I did not bother to pay attention or even care on what they are talking about. A friend of Kian cleared his throat to grab my attention. I seem to know what they are going to say.
“Beth, we have a night swimming today.” There was hesitation in his tone.
“Is that a school activity? Per group? For one of your subjects?” I asked them insipidly without looking at them.
“Not like that…”
I didn’t speak and just continued eating. They got noisy again
“We just wanted to-”
“No,” I quickly said. “So?”
I shook and breathed heavily. I looked at Kian who was now frowning and staring at me. I looked at him coldly causing him to be dumbfounded.
“Do you want to go with them?” I asked him. He shooked his head hesitantly.
“No,” he replied so I turned to his friends and raised an eyebrow.
We didn’t talk anymore. Everyone ate quietly. I quickly ate my food so I got up first. Kian also stood up immediately even though he hadn’t finished what he was eating.
“I’m still going to the library. Just finish your food,” I said and walked away but he stopped me. He hugged me and kissed me on my cheek.
I didn’t talk. I left the canteen and went straight to the restroom.
Earlier, my chest tightened. I have been holding back my annoyance and anger a while ago. I wanted to explode but I didn’t. My tears slowly poured out as I stared at myself in the mirror. But I immediately wiped it when I heard footsteps approaching. I washed it up.
“Hi, Beth,” Macy greeted me. I smiled in the mirror where I could see them.
They looked at me as I wiped my face. I remember that Macy and I hadn’t finished talking yet. Knowing her friends know about Kian and Jewel so I don’t have to secretly talk to Macy anymore.
“Do you think something happened to them after that kiss? Did they leave the bar together?” I asked.
It’s the birthday of one of his friends and they said that the celebration will be held only at his house. Macy’s friends looked at each other. Macy was staring at me. I don’t like how she looks at me. Do I look pitiful?
“He pushed Jewel and then hurriedly left the bar even though his friends are calling him.”
But he didn’t go home right away.
“Jewel followed her so we followed her too. Because we thought that your husband might be betraying you,” said the other one. I did not talk. I waited for what they will say next.
“Kian went straight to the parking lot. Jewel followed him. He pushed her away. He even shouted at Jewel because she was teasing him for them to go to his condo.”
“Kian is furious. I don’t think he meant what happened. I don’t know. Kissing another woman is also an act of cheating especially if you are married, “said Macy’s friend. She even rolled his eyes. She was the showiest in their group.
“We didn’t hear what they were talking about because we were watching from afar. But Jewel entered the bar again. Then Kian got in his car. He didn’t leave right away. Maybe he was frustrated or thinking about Jewel’s offer- ouch!”
Macy slapped her friend. I nodded. I wonder what happened the other night. I should have asked more but other students are now entering the restroom.
Kian had a text message when my class ended. He said I’ll wait for him on the benches because they were just finishing an activity. I said I would wait in fifteen minutes.
“Bye, Beth,” Macy’s friends said goodbye. I smiled and waved.
Macy tapped me on the shoulder before silently walking out of the room. I also left the room and walked over to the benches.
I was about to sit down when Jewel and her friends approached me. I dropped my bag on the bench and looked at Jewel seriously. I felt nervous, including the annoyance with her always smiling, a demon face.
Before she could utter words to annoy me, I preceded her.
“Stay away from my husband,” I said softly but emphatically. She looked surprised so I rolled my eyes at her.
“She knows how to fight when her husband is involved.” They laughed.
I am not fond of talking so I can’t think of anything to say but to threaten her and warn her to stay away from my husband. This is frustrating!
“Stay away from my husband!”
She laughed.
“Are you afraid I might take your husband away from you?” She said mockingly.
“No matter what you do, you can never take him away. You can’t separate us!” I wanted to say more but my instinct told me not to. In my mind, I am already dissecting her annoying face.
“What if I can?”
This girl! I clenched my fist. My body wants to strangle her but my mind tells me not to. I felt Macy’s hands grip on my arm. They haven’t left for home yet.
Jewel continues to utter annoying words to mock me. What I had in mind was that I’ll be defeated if I can’t even slap her now. So I step forward. Macy’s hand is holding me back.
“Woah! What’s going on here?” Kian’s friends immediately intervened. I looked sharply at Jewel.
“Come on, Beth. You’re a graduating student. Remember,” Macy said.
Kian’s friends followed me. Asking what happened. So, the annoyance I had for them the other day was suppressed and the annoyance I felt with Jewel I heaped on them. I confronted them.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“I know you don’t want me for your friend.” They were shocked by what I said. “But I hope you have respect. He is already married. Then where are you taking him? It’s like you’re still pushing him to betray me. What kind of friends are you? You liars!”
I tried to keep my voice whole even though I was trembling with anger. I noticed a lot of students watching around so I turned my back on them. On my front, I saw Kian’s face in shock.
Probably shocked that I knew what he did and he was lying to me. I want to reprove him here but I don’t want everyone’s attention will be on us. Why does he have to drag me into a situation like this always? I looked at him sharply before I drifted off as Macy pulled me away. When we got to the parking lot Kian chased me.
“Moo.”
I did not look at him. Macy’s car door opened. I went in no matter what Kian will do to stop me.
“Moo, please. Let’s talk,” he begged.
