Chapter 33
Chapter 33
Larissa instinctively lowered her head.
Seeing as her forceful attempts at entering were not working, Amber started crying. ” I need to see my uncle urgently! Please! You have to let me in! This is a matter of life and death. If I can’t see my uncle, I might as well be dead! Do you really have the heart to watch me meet my end without doing anything?”
Snot and tears trickled down her cheeks. She looked particularly pitiful.
Slight discomfort colored the guard’s face, but he remained professional. “These are the orders I have from my higher–ups. I’m sorry, Miss, I really cannot let you in.”
Amber hurled her backpack into the guardhouse. The guard took a step back in fright.
“My phone, wallet, and ID are all in this bag. Please, I’m begging you! Take these in exchange and let me in. I really am not a bad person!”
The guard bent down and picked her backpack up before handing it back to her wordlessly. His stance was firm and there was no changing his mind.
“Beep, beep-”
A car came from behind and sounded its horn, most probably due to the blockage on
the road.
Larissa wanted to let the car behind her pass, but it wasn’t up to her to decide when
she could leave.
The guard was held up by Amber’s fit and could not walk up to explain the current situation to the driver behind her.
Not long after, Larissa caught a glimpse of a figure walking toward them through her rearview mirror.
The man stopped between her car and the guardhouse.
“What’s going on?” The icy voice was filled with impatience.
That tone–Larissa was more than familiar with it.
“Mr. Rogers!” The guard immediately straightened and greeted him politely.
“You! Why are you here?” Amber quickly recognized Kevan as well. Her eyes widened in shock, her mouth slightly agape. She pointed at him for a long time but couldn’t get a single word out.
Kevan’s lips curled in a slight smile. “What a coincidence.”
His familiarity with Amber stunned the guard.
“Mr. Rogers, do you know this woman?”
“I do.” Kevan nodded.
Amber did not know how that pretty boy she once met turned into “Mr. Rogers” all of a sudden, but she did not have the heart to care about her previous feud with Kevan.
Instead, she clutched his arm and resumed her initial overbearing attitude. “See? I know Mr. Rogers. Can you let me in now?”
Kevan’s face darkened instantly.
He suppressed his extreme discomfort and subtly tried to remove his arm from her.
The guard looked between Amber and Kevan before he asked tentatively. “So- should I let this lady in, Mr. Rogers?”
Kevan spat coldly. “Let her in.”
Amber smiled as the guard quickly raised the barricade.
However, she did not rush inside. “Mr. Rogers, about last time–I sincerely apologize,”
she said instead.
Her head was lowered but she tried her hardest to observe Kevan’s expression as she spoke. She bit her lower lip, traces of undried tears shining on her cheeks. She looked extremely pitiful at that moment.
Kevan was rather generous. “It’s fine,” he replied.
Amber immediately started to flatter him. “Oh, Mr. Rogers, you truly are a great and forgiving person! Thank God I ran into you today, or else I wouldn’t know how much longer I would have to stand in this cold-”
“No problem,” Kevan replied. He then took off his coat and handed it to her. “Wear this if you’re cold.”
Amber was pleasantly surprised.
“Thank you, Mr. Rogers!” She swiftly put on his coat and rubbed her hands shyly. Her face was filled with anticipation when she spoke again, “Could you–could you maybe drive me over to Block 12?”All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
