Tangled Temptations

Chapter 7

Eloise got home. Michelle, who was praying, looked up with hope in her eyes as she saw her.

Pale-faced, Eloise shook her head. Michelle was disappointed but held her tongue. "You're soaking wet." she said. "Go take a shower, or you will catch a cold."

Eloise nodded. She showered and took some medicine, but still ended up catching a cold, feeling a bit dizzy.

At midnight, Veronica couldn't wait any longer and called to know the results. Eloise relayed the events in a hoarse voice.

Veronica sounded astonished. "Harvey can really control his desires? You were already that close, and he still held back? Eloise...is there something wrong with him?"

Eloise responded quietly, "I don't think so, he seems pretty normal to me."

Veronica let out a sigh of relief and then encouraged Eloise. "As long as there's nothing wrong with him physically, I don't believe you can't win him over."

Eloise gave a bitter smile. She knew very well that she could not attract him unless Harvey wanted her to.

After chatting with Veronica for a while, she hung up and went back to sleep. When she woke up, it was noon the next day. Michelle wasn't home, and the house was eerily quiet.

Eloise felt even worse. She took her temperature, and it was a whopping 39.5 degrees. She managed to eat something, and then took a cab to the hospital.noveldrama

The hospital was packed. She waited an hour before seeing a doctor, who put her on an IV. By the time Eloise was hooked up, it was already 3 p.m. She was exhausted from the past few days and fell asleep in the shabby chair half an hour later.

Harvey was at the hospital picking up medication for his mother. As they were leaving, he spotted Eloise in the infusion room.

Eloise was asleep. Her hand was hooked up to an IV, and her sleeping face was pale and pitiful. Harvey stared at her for a few extra seconds. His mother, Pauline, noticed her son's gaze and glanced over, then exclaimed, "Harvey, do you know this young lady?"

Harvey replied indifferently, "We've met once."

Pauline told her son, "Earlier, when I was registering, she helped me out. I didn't know you knew her."

Harvey gave Eloise another look.

Just then, Eloise woke up and, upon seeing Harvey, tried to get up quickly, forgetting about the IV in her hand. Suddenly, the fluid in the tube turned bright red. Eloise winced in pain and quickly sat back down.

Harvey frowned.

Pauline was fond of Eloise and told her son, "Harvey, why don't you stay with this young lady? It's really heartbreaking to see someone sick and alone."

Harvey didn't want to stay, but under his mother's gaze, he agreed. Eloise didn't even have time to object.

Harvey saw his mother off to the parking lot, where the driver was already waiting. Before getting in the car, Pauline continued, "I think this Ms. Laurent is quite nice! Harvey, you're now the right age to get married. If you find a suitable girl, don't let her go."

Harvey put his hands in his pockets and gave a faint smile. Would his mother still be so enthusiastic if she knew Eloise was Max's ex-girlfriend?

He brushed her off with a few words. Pauline could only sigh inwardly.

Harvey returned to the infusion room, where Eloise was sitting, looking somewhat distracted. Harvey couldn't deny his physical attraction to Eloise, particularly her long, slender legs, which he loved to hold. They were intoxicating. But that's as far as it went. He wanted her body, not her life.

Harvey sat next to Eloise and asked coldly, "How many more bottles do you have to finish?"

Eloise was surprised he'd actually come back. She didn't want to upset him, so she answered softly, "Just one more."

Harvey didn't say much else. He looked down at his phone and started dealing with work. Eloise ran out of things to say and eventually dozed off.

In her half-asleep state, she thought she heard Harvey talking to the nurse. Then she felt a coat being draped over her legs, covering them completely...
