The Alpha

Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Scarlet's POV

"Scar!" A familiar voice suddenly calls out. I turn and see Will reaching the top of the wall before

coming over to me and giving me a brief hug before turning to Ethan and shaking his hand. "Alpha," he

greets as the rest of his group catches up to him. "So, nothing's happening until dusk now?"

"So it would seem," Ethan replies grimly. "Cassia will continue walking the perimeter and reinforcing her

spells for as long as she can. Other than that, looks like we will just be playing the waiting game for a

couple more hours."

Will nods and then approaches the side of the wall to look out at our opponents. "Is there anyway to

sneak up on them? Take them out before then?" Will asks as he turns his gaze back to Ethan.

"Unfortunately no. Cassia said they would have set up their own protection spells. There's no way we'd

be able to get anyone near them undetected," he answers.

As soon as dusk falls the army begins marching towards us once more. The witches then spread out

across the front of the lines and begin throwing spells at us. Cassia's own enchantments hold as we

can see orange sparks striking against an invisible barrier that is domed around the entire city. They

sizzle out as they hit the protective magic that veils Crescent City. When their charms don't manage to

break through silver-tipped arrows are shot from a row of Silver Shadow archers. Those bounce off the

barrier as well.

I continue to watch as they try different spells and different weapons, none of which can bypass

Cassia's own magic. Then I spot Lucien. He is in the front center of one of the companies standing in

the open moon roof of a black hummer. The wretched Alpha is staring at me and when he notices that

I've spotted him he smiles evilly. He thinks he has won. I'm sure he has no idea that the witches don't

plan on handing me over to him.

The assault soon becomes more aggressive and it is obvious that some of our attackers are beginning

to get annoyed. They thought this would be easier. Did they not notice that Cassia had left them?

"Ethan!" Xander's voice suddenly calls out as he runs up to us with Cassia trailing behind him.

Ethan and I quickly come together to hear what Xander has to say but Cassia is the one that speaks

up. "The barrier won't hold much longer. They'll be able to get through soon. We need to get our

archers ready and as soon as a spell breaks through we need to take aim."

"Won't they have their own barriers up still?" I question.

"No, they would have had to come out from behind it to be sending spells at us. As long as we target

the front line we should make it through whatever precautions they've taken. That doesn't mean it will

be easy though. There are plenty of spells they can throw up to counter our attack," she replies.

We all nod as Ethan begins tossing out orders and all of the warriors scramble to take their positions.

Magic continues to hit our invisible barrier as different colors of light flash and sizzle around us.

Suddenly a bolt of light shoots through and blasts stone off the side of an old building. Arrows shoot

across the battlefield as our archers send them flying. The witches standing in the front line wave their

arms as invisible shields knock the projectiles from the air. Several manage to get through, though the

witches remain untouched. I don't think they care if the Silver Shadow Pack gets injured. They only

care about their own kind, their own agenda. They are just using the pack to overpower us if it comes

down to a fight.

Spells and arrows are being sent by both sides as boulders are catapulted at our opponent. Hundreds

of soldiers scatter and hurry to get out of the way as the large stones begin to rain down on them.

Soon, they are shooting some of their own at us. Our protective enchantments are weakening but they

seem to still be protecting us from much of their onslaught. I use my own powers as I send bursts of

light energy, shoving their lines back and making them stumble and fall. Finally, a few exceptionally big

rocks make it through, causing damage to the newly made wall.

I look over at Cassia and see that she is shooting out bolts of light at the witches who are quickly trying

to block and fire spells of their own. She hits several of them but it is not enough. I can tell she is

getting tired as her forehead has a sheen of sweat on it and she seems to be short of breath. Turning

to Ethan I say, "I think we should meet them on the field. Cassia is getting tired and the protective

charms are almost gone. They will destroy the city if we can't draw their attention away from it."

"You're right. You stay here with Cassia and the archers. I'm going to rally my warriors and we'll exit

through the front gates to meet them," he answers. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

"No, I'm going with you. We've talked about this Ethan. I go where you go. I will not sit by while you go

risk your life," I state firmly back causing him to narrow his eyes at me. He can be so pigheaded

sometimes.

"Stubborn woman," he growls before sighing. "Fine but you will stay by my side and if there is trouble

you get the hell out of there."

"Fine."

Ethan heads for the stone steps as he mind-links the rest of his pack. I go to follow and Cassia stops

me as she gently grabs my elbow. "I don't know if you should go out there Luna."

"What? Why not?" I instantly question defensively.

Cassia looks around to see that Xander has followed Ethan as well and no one else is here to overhear

our conversation. "Because you're pregnant."
