The Alpha’s Little Luna

Mercedes’ POV

My heart broke into a thousand pieces when Zane told me he would be gone for two more days.

When he left, I begged him to come back soon. These past two weeks have been hell, I miss him so much. I’m not sure how to handle my days without him. FaceTime does not fill in the lack, on the contrary, it fires up my longing to have him in my arms again.

I skip the first hour of class because I’m not in a good mood.

So, I took a break from the hustle and bustle of school and my friends who would no doubt show up in a few minutes. I grab my phone and look at the pictures of Zane and me. We are so happy, never arguing or even having a minor disagreement because my mate is patient and understanding. He always keeps in mind that I am still young and have to go through a number of processes to adulthood.

And then I hear Glary next to me, a deep sigh shoots from my chest. Gosh, can’t he mind his own business and leave me alone? It’s so annoying!

And then he thinks he needs to comfort me! I brush him off, seize my bag and head back to the school. I prefer the lessons over the Alpha son company anyways.

“Hey, where were you? We were looking for you everywhere”, Clarita approached me, worried. “I saw Glary walking in the direction you just came from. Did you two have a chat or something else?” I don’t miss the mean undertone of her words.

“There’s nothing between the Alpha son and me, it was just a conversation between two pack members,” I answered her icy. “I have a handsome mate”, I remind her. She immediately turns red, my words clearly hit her.

“Hey, you don’t have to be that mean. I didn’t mean anything by what I said,” she tried to correct. I roll my eyes and we walk to our Chemistry class. Luckily Glary has another schedule so I can relax. And of course, I’m quite absent during the lessons.

Finally, school is over. I leave in my car, but I drive to the waterfront instead of going home. I still need to be alone, to clear my mind. As I sit on a bench for half an hour, staring over the water, a cute little girl suddenly approaches with a basket full of flowers. “Hi, this is for you”, she sounded shyly as she hands me the basket. I am surprised, this is unexpected.

“Oooh, thank you, that’s so sweet of you”, I answered, smiling. “Don’t you want to keep it to yourself?”

She shakes her head in denial. When I took it, she ran away. I take a Tulip out of the basket, bury my nose in it. It really boosts my mood quite a bit. Enjoying the smell, I can finally smile in the midst of my misery. In a much better spirit, I walk back to my car.

When I get home, I place the basket in the middle of the kitchen table and walk up the stairs to my room. Zane’s scent is starting to fade, which really annoys me.

It is already late at night when a text message comes in. When I check my notifications, I see an unknown number.

‘Come down. And get in,’ it reads. Is Zane back and trying to make amends? I quickly jump out of bed, wearing ripped black jeans and a thick sweater against the cold wind and run down the stairs.

“Hey, what’s the hurry?” asked my father, who is still watching TV with my mother in his arms.

“Zane is back! And he has a surprise for me”, I screamed cheerfully as I run out the door. And there I see a romantic carriage, with horses and all waiting.

Ecstatic, I get in and the coachman immediately pulls up.

In order not to spoil the surprise, I don’t ask him anything. We drive just outside the built-up area, on a dirt road that leads to an artificial beach. There I see a fully decorated cabana, the lights and soft music are a great attraction. The carriage barely stops when I rush out and run toward the hut.

Zane is serious about making it suitable for me, I think. When I’m in the middle of the place, I look around but don’t see him anywhere. All smiles, I take a seat, still curiously roaming my eyes on the surroundings, searching for my mate.

And then, I see a male figure slowly striding toward me. He walks in the dark, I can’t quite make out his face yet. I jump of my chair and run to him. How I’ve missed Zane so much, the only thing I think about now is to be in his arms as soon as possible.

And when I stand before him, I freeze.

This is not my mate.

I stare at the man with eyes wide dripping with disappointment.

“Alpha Glary”, I cried out, aggrieved. “What are you doing here?” The shock of seeing the Alpha’s son instead of Zane here makes me less alert. Glary takes this opportunity to hold me by the shoulders and pulls me against his chest.

“You’re finally glad to see me, that makes everything okay”, he sighed. “Thank you for accepting my invitation to this date, it’s more than I ever dreamt of.” I recoiled at his words and push myself off his chest.

“I think you’re misrepresenting things here,” I stated furiously. “I thought my mate was back and wanted to surprise me. I’m sorry, Alpha, but I didn’t expect you to be here.” He stares at me for a moment.

“Come on, let’s sit down”, he invited me. I walk with him, and when they arrive at the cabana, he pulls out a chair for me.

When he sits opposite me, he takes my hands in his. I look at them in annoyance and roughly suppress the urge to pull them back.

“Mercedes, you know I have a crush on you. I’m sorry you thought someone else organized this for you,” he said softly. “But now that you’re here, why don’t we make this a pleasant date?”

I swallowed hard.

To me, a date with another man equals adultery and cheating. I’d be devastated if Zane were dining with another she-wolf. But then, I think this is the right time to make our relationship clear to Glary, that his overtures are not wanted. I slowly withdraw my hands.

“Alpha, I want you to stop chasing after me”, I told him tightly. “I have a mate that I love more than life, he is everything to me. I am not interested in another relationship or dating another man”.

As I speak, I look him straight in the eye….
