Chapter 29: Rescue
Chapter 29: Rescue
Serena's POV:
"If you even leave so much of a scratch on Serena, Peter will never let you get away with this!"
Tessa continued to roar, but it seemed that the growling wolves were not listening at all.Tessa was left with no choice.
She dropped her cloak back to the ground.
"I'll try and stop them, Luna.Go and get help," she said to me before turning back into a wolf.
She positioned herself in front of me and bared her teeth at the approaching she-wolves.
Initially, I was going to do what Tessa said and get help.
But it wasn't fair to leave Tessa alone against four wolves. She was outnumbered.
I just couldn't leave Tessa behind.
I stood behind Tessa and waved my racket defensively, just in case someone would try to attack her from behind.
It seemed that they all decided on killing Tessa first.
I glanced at Tessa and saw blood oozing out of her ears and front legs.
With only a racket in my hand, how was I supposed to protect myself and help Tessa? I deeply regretted that I couldn't transform yet into a wolf.
The wolves continued to attack Tessa, and the wounds on her body multiplied.
She was at a total disadvantage now.Kate suddenly tried to lunge at me.
"No! Go away, all of you! I am your Luna!"
I roared, channeling the werewolf and vampire blood that ran through my veins.I had super powers.I should have never been afraid of other she-wolves like Kate.
For a moment, Kate was stunned by my powerful roar and it dazed her for a few seconds.
But soon enough, she regained consciousness and the murderous look on her face returned. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Kate got a hold of my racket with her teeth and yanked it off my hand, hurling it far away from me.
Now, my hands were empty.Kate growled, showing her sharp teeth as she slowly stepped forward.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a racket not too far away.I moved to pick it up, but Kate suddenly shoved me to the ground.
The racket was only a foot away from my hand and I kept reaching out for it.
Suddenly, the racket flew into my hand like it had been summoned.Deciding not to think too much of it yet, I quickly smashed it against Kate, who was just about to claw my face off.
The hit had quite an impact on her.
"Someone's coming. We have to go, Kate!"
One of the she-wolves transformed back into a human and hurriedly picked up some clothes.Kate and the others heard a sound, too, and transformed out of their wolf forms.
"Lucky bitches. I'll kill the both of you another time!"
Kate warned us as she ran away with her friends, disappearing from the rooftop.
Before I could figure out why they were retreating, I heard Peter's voice from behind.
"Serena! What happened?"
"It was that bitch, Kate! She, along with her other she-wolf friends, attacked me,"
I replied, trying to catch my breath.I then ran over to Tessa and carefully tried to help her up.
"Kate?" Peter's eyes widened.
"You're bleeding! You need to go to the hospital.Alvin, take Tessa to the hospital right now.David, I need you to bring Kate to me." Peter ordered his men.
"Yes, Peter," they answered in unison.
Alvin escorted Tessa, and I caught a glimpse of him staring at her filthily.Tessa was only wearing a cloak, which didn't do much of a job to cover up everything.
It seemed like such a hassle that werewolves always ended up naked when transforming back into humans. They'd have to scramble to find clothes right after they transformed.
Based on my brief talks with Peter, Alvin had quite the playboy reputation and constantly slept around.
Was he going to make Tessa the next girl on his list?
"How are you, honey? Did you get hurt?"
Peter held me by my shoulders and checked around my body.
"I'm fine.All thanks to Tessa."
I then told Peter about everything that had just happened.
"Goddamn it! I hadn't expected Kate to do such a thing." Peter shook his head.
"Peter, is Kate your ex? Tell me the truth," I asked seriously.
"No, not really. We slept together once, but were never boyfriend and girlfriend,"Peter hurriedly explained.
"Was that a one night stand?"
"No, no.Wait.Let me explain, Serena.I was drunk that night and Kate...She...I'll admit that I was attracted to her.So I allowed myself to have sex with her that night. But after that we never"
"Enough, Peter. You didn't end things properly with her, did you? That’s why she wanted to kill me."
"Serena, please.Listen to me"
"No, I don't want to hear any more."
I turned and was about to leave, but Anita stopped me.
"Serena, Peter is telling the truth. It's really not what you think. That time, Peter still wasn't sure if Kate was his mate or not.So, he went on several dates with her.Peter had been trying to find his Luna for years already.Everyone in the pack knew that..."
"But Anita, I could have died out there. If it weren't for Tessa, I would have been gone by now.If Peter and Kate's relationship was really as simple as you said, then Kate would not have wanted to kill me that much."
"Honey, I..." Peter tried to say something, but I interrupted him.
"No, Peter.I don't want to talk to you right now." I glared at him.
"Serena, it was Kate that Peter was dating before he left for the business trip.He was only gone for a few days, but he returned with a mate.Kate's just probably having a hard time accepting that," Anita explained again.
"Well, I guess...It does sound reasonable enough."
"Yes, Serena.Listen to Anita," Peter nodded.
"Have you explained everything to Kate already?"
"Yes, I have."
"Really, when?" Peter didn't answer.
"Tell me when you explained it," I asked.
"Last night."
"What? Last night? Was that why you came back late? Because you were with Kate?"
"Yes...I mean, not exactly..."
"Stop. You're making excuses. You promised me that you'd come back early last night. But it turns out that you were just with Kate.I can't believe it.I'm disappointed in you, Peter.I'm going to go and rest now."
"OK, I'll go with you..."
"No, Peter.You can stay here."
"But, honey..." Anita suddenly burst out laughing.
"What's so funny, Anita?" Confused, I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Oh, I'm sorry.I've just never seen Peter so nervous and flustered like this."
"Anita, stop laughing at me.
The more I explain, the worse it becomes! Please, help me out," Peter pleaded.
"Okay, okay," Anita said, wiping her tears from laughing.
"I was there last night, Serena.Peter was at the library, looking up some important information for work.Suddenly, Kate sneaked into the library, where she wasn't allowed. That was when Peter tried to apologize and explain everything to her."
"Well, then if what Anita says is true, then Kate is nothing but a victim here."
"Yes, to some extent, she is.She is a victim of her own feelings for Peter.Feelings she can't get rid of.That's why she was so willing to do stupid things just now."
"If that's the case, I don't think there’s a need to hold her accountable for what happened just now."
"What? No way! She tried to hurt my Luna! Why would I—"
"Are you objecting?"
"I...No.No, I'm not!" Once again, Anita broke into fits of laughter.
"What are you laughing at this time, Anita?"
"Oh, Serena. You sounded just like a Luna." I pursed my lips and felt my cheeks blush.
"Oh, but I'm sorry, Serena.I shouldn't have left you alone in the first place.I apologize."
Anita placed her hand on my arm.
"Anita, it's okay.I don't blame you at all.This wasn't your fault."
To me, Anita had done nothing wrong.
It was partly my fault.I was already eighteen, and yet I still couldn't even protect myself.
"No, it's my fault." Peter lowered his head.
"Of course, it is! Because of your past mistake, your Luna had to suffer for it!"
"I know, and I am sorry.Serena, please punish me!"
Peter said, bowing to me.He looked like he was waiting for me to do something.
"I'm going to the hospital to see if Tessa is fine.Move aside."
I walked towards the exit.
After hearing Peter's story, I wasn't that angry anymore.
Accepting Peter as my mate meant that I would also have to accept his past.
I shouldn't be bothered by how many other she wolves he had slept with.
But I had to admit to myself that it did bother me that he and Kate had a relationship.
"Anita, tell David not to give Kate a hard time." I turned to Anita with concern.
"Right away, Serena."
