Chapter 410
Chapter 410
In the ward, Penelope was lying in bed. Miranda was standing by her side, holding her hand and
saying, “Penelope, the doc says you’re pretty much out of the woods now. Thank god, I’d be kicking
myself if anything happened to you.”
Tears glistened in Penelope’s eyes, “Miranda, it’s all on me. I didn’t protect my and Lucian’s baby.”
“How can this be your fault, Penelope? Please don’t be so hard on yourself. What you need to do now
is take care of yourself and get your strength back.”
Penelope gritted her teeth. She seemed fragile on the outside, but inside she felt incredibly frustrated.
She was in this state, and Miranda clearly felt guilty, but she still hadn’t taken the initiative to suggest
that Lucian marry her. Her voice trembled, “Maybe, I was never meant to have this child.”
Miranda looked at Penelope, “I’ve arranged for the best orthopedic surgeon. Don’t worry about your
broken arm and leg. That kind of injury takes a while to heal.”
Miranda got up to leave, not wanting to disturb Penelope’s rest.
Seeing Miranda leaving, Penelope hurriedly said, “What about Lucian? Will he blame me for not
protecting our child?”
“How could he possibly do that? If anyone’s to blame, it’s me.” Miranda looked at Penelope lying in the
hospital bed, and her heart was filled with profound sadness. If she hadn’t insisted on holding the
charity gala, if she had done the check-up earlier, maybe all this wouldn’t have happened.
Miranda walked out of the room, with Ms. Deborah trailing behind her, “Mrs. Lindberg, are you worried
about the situation between Mr. Lindberg and Ms. Flanagan?”
Ms. Deborah had been by Miranda’s side for over thirty years, and was five years older than her.
Normally, Miranda called her Deborah.
“Deborah, do you remember why Lucian wanted to marry Penelope?” Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Ms. Deborah responded, “Didn’t Mr. Lindberg say he was set up when he first came back to the country
and it was Ms. Flanagan who saved him? She lost her chastity in order to save him and Mr. Lindberg
felt guilty, wanting to compensate her.”
Miranda said, “Yes, but I can tell that Lucian didn’t really want to marry her. I once suggested that he
and Penelope get married, so that when Penelope gave birth to the child, it would be legitimate. But he
refused, saying that the Lindberg family’s offspring couldn’t afford any mistakes, he wanted to wait until
Penelope gave birth to the baby before getting married. But now…”
Ms. Deborah continued, “Now, Ms. Flanagan’s child is gone.”
Miranda continued, “She was just half a month away from giving birth, but now the child is gone.”
“Now that the child is gone, Lucian doesn’t want to marry Penelope, but the external public opinion
pressure is huge. He has been doing really well running the Lindberg Corporation recently, and Carter
seems to want Lucian to take over the Lindberg Corporation. At this crucial moment, I just hope this
doesn’t affect him.”
Deborah, “Mrs. Lindberg, don’t worry, this won’t affect Mr. Lindberg.
Miranda let out a sigh, “I hope so.”
“Miranda, as long as Mr. Lindberg and Ms. Flanagan get married and have children in the future, public
opinion will naturally dissipate. I’m just worried about Mr. Lindberg.”
Miranda looked at Deborah, “Deborah, you’ve watched Lucian grow up. You should know his character.
I’m afraid he doesn’t want to marry Penelope now. But we, the Lindberg family, do owe Penelope.”
“Is it because…” Deborah thought for a moment, “Could it be because of the woman named Allison?”
“Deborah, don’t you think Allison and Penelope look alike?”
“They do look a bit similar, but… there’s a huge difference in their statuses.”
“Deborah, do you think there’s a possibility that…” Miranda suddenly had a thought, maybe her son got
the wrong person, the one who saved her son the first time was Allison. But she immediately dismissed
this idea. It was too ridiculous, Penelope was already pregnant, the timing matched up, so the one who
saved her son the first time was definitely Penelope.
“Never mind, it’s nothing.”
