Chapter 237
Chapter 237
After she sent the message to her mother, Nicole was in a good mood as she prepared to change out of her clothes. She opened the trailer's door and yelled, “Come over here, Lana.”
Her tone was that of a master summoning a servant or a dog.
Milana wasn't too happy about being treated like a lowly servant, yet she didn't show it on her face and ran over to Nicole with a smile. “Is there anything you need my help with?”
Nicole stared at Milana with disgust. Of course, I have something to ask you to do. Why else would I call you over? Is she even aware of her job as an assistant?
“Why don't you ever address me whenever you talk to me?” Nicole asked in a gentle tone.
Although it was late at night, Nicole's delicate facial features somehow added some warmth to the surroundings. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Some crew members passed by them while carrying something.
Milana awkwardly answered, “You're six years younger than me, so I'm not sure how to address you.”
It's inappropriate for me to call her Sis. It seems weird to call her Ms. Lambert, too. I can call her “Nickie,” but... I'm just an assistant. Am I even allowed to call her that?
The incident when Nicole stomped on Milana's finger was still clear as day in the latter's memory.
After hearing Milana's answer, the corner of Nicole's mouth curled into a smile. “Just call me Nickie.”
The crew members who were nearby heard that at once.
“You're so nice, Nickie.”
“I would love to be your assistant in my next life, Nickie. You treat your staff so well!”
The crowd praised Nicole one after another. They all complimented her for her easy-going nature and how well-mannered she was.
Nicole simply smiled before she whirled around, returning to the confines of her trailer to change out of her clothes.
Milana reached for some facial cotton on the side and splashed some makeup remover on the fluffy cotton. The seniors in the crew address Nicole by her nickname because they are her seniors. If I call her “Nickie,” she might not be happy.
Milana decided to find an opportunity to climb the social ladder and stay far away from Nicole.
I'll surely shine brighter than Nicole when it's my turn to stand at the top.
On the way back to the city center, the trailer arrived at the bustling street, yet Nicole wasn't in the mood to savor the view of the colorful, bright lights glowing outside the window. Her head was buried in her phone as she tried to get ahold of Dylan.
It was after seven in the evening when the call finally went through.
Nicole's pretty eyebrow scrunched into a frown. Her back straightened. “Why did you only pick up my call now?”
Dylan had just come out of the police station's interrogation room. His phone couldn't receive any signal when he was in the room. “Can I help you?”
Nicole's voice came from the other end of the line. “I need your advice on something important. You're the only one around me that can give me a suggestion. Let's meet up if you're free.”
Still standing in the station, Dylan casually strode toward the exit as he dipped his head to light a cigarette. “All right. You decide on the place.”
It's always risky to share a meal with celebrities. Despite keeping our last meeting under tight wraps, we still had our photos taken and ended up on the news. However, if it hadn't been for what happened last time, I wouldn't have had the chance to show my marriage certificate with Avery to the entire country.
Dylan took a puff of his cigarette before blowing out a stream of green smoke with a wicked grin on his face.
Before he could get into the car after exiting the station, Olivia came rushing out and stopped him where he was.
“You can't slander others, Dylan!” Olivia shouted until her voice turned hoarse.
Following behind Olivia was her attorney.
The agitated woman leaped and grabbed Dylan's collar, but that was all that she could do before she was violently flung to the side by the man.
“Have you lost your mind? Do you want to get locked up with your daughter?” Dylan glared maliciously at Olivia, who was on the ground.
Olivia couldn't get up in the shock of the moment. The attorney hurriedly went over to give her a hand.
“How can you be so cruel, Dylan?” Olivia looked up at Dylan and ranted furiously, “How can you say my daughter was the only one behind the kidnapping of her colleague's grandfather? Answer me with your conscience. Were you part of that or not? I think you're the mastermind behind that!”
Dylan answered calmly, “Mrs. Gallagher, I'm a close friend of Yvonne, and you're acquainted with my parents, too. I would've shouldered the responsibility if I did anything illegal. I wouldn't blame it on a nineteen-year-old girl. However, I swear I have nothing to do with this matter.”
Olivia felt as though she had heard a joke. “You said you didn't do it? Justice always wins. I'll find a way to prove you're the one behind it.”
Dylan frowned. “Yvonne knew about my feelings toward Avery, my current wife, so she gave me a suggestion to kidnap Avery's grandfather and use the old man's life to threaten Avery, who at that time wasn't my wife yet, to marry me. Yvonne might be too young to understand matters regarding relationships and love, so she might not be aware that a forced marriage won't be happy. My wife and I could've gotten together naturally, so why would I use such despicable means to threaten her? I even
taught Yvonne a lesson after she gave me that suggestion, as I was worried she would go down the wrong path, but she didn't heed my advice.”
The attorney's expression remained indifferent, not betraying even the slightest of his thoughts.
Olivia, however, began to waver. First of all, my daughter is dumb, so how could she have done something like kidnapping her love rival's grandfather without the help of others? But on the other hand, Dylan's too calm and composed. It's as if he's truly innocent.
The attorney urged, “Let's go, Mrs. Gallagher.”
Olivia's mind was still abuzz with messy thoughts as she left with her attorney in a daze.
Dylan knew that the police's sudden detainment of Yvonne and their thorough investigation of the matter was a sign that someone he knew had taken action.
Luckily, all the evidence is directed at Yvonne.
However, Dylan was furious about Cayden's nosiness. It's none of his business! Avery's my wife! I should be the one standing up for her!
At the hospital, Xavier opened the car door for the trio who went to bring Avery, who was discharged, back home.
The kids were behaving so well.
“Slow down, Rory.” As Rory climbed up onto the back seat while wriggling her stumpy legs, Avery
quickly reached out to help the girl.
In contrast, Zachary was much more agile. With a stride, he got into the car elegantly like a prince.
Cayden stood behind Avery, his slender build maintaining an upright posture as he lightly placed his hand on her waist. While she was taking care of the kids, he was keeping an eye on her.
When the four of them finally got in, Xavier shut the door.
Ms. Avery is lucky she has a relationship with Boss. Xavier sincerely thought so.
At the very least, she has a strong and steady pillar of support during times of difficulty.
