Chapter 533 Black Mamba

Cayden's heart was in his throat when he heard Avery's terrified shrieks. “Avery, what happened?”

The scene unfolding before Avery's eyes was so shocking that she found herself unable to speak.

It was a giant nest of snakes.

Avery's legs had turned jelly. She subconsciously thought of getting off the swing, but she almost fell off due to her panic and injured foot, which impeded her movements.

Thankfully, it was a close call as she caught hold of a sturdy branch in the nick of time.

“Ery, what's going on?” Cayden called out urgently. His voice was overflowing with concern.

Avery was fearful of moving when she turned her phone camera at the horrific beings on the ground.

Cayden could see through the live video clearly that several black snakes were slithering toward her.

He immediately became alarmed.

The snakes were black mambas, the most dangerous venomous snake species. Their speed and attacks were tremendously lethal that even two drops of venom could induce death.

However, their natural habitat was usually in Alendor, the southern parts of Aploth, and regions with tropical rainforests. There was no way they would appear here unless they were transported over on purpose.

Avery tried desperately to remain composed, but her hand holding her phone trembled. “C-Cayden, t- there are many black snakes here. Why are there suddenly so many black snakes in the garden?”

She was so overcome by fear that she started stammering.

Avery had a phobia of cold-blooded animals that squirmed, snakes being one of them.

She was frozen with trepidation as she stared at the snakes exposing their scarlet forked tongues as they glided toward her.

Her heart was beating at an erratic rate.

She was always repulsed by creatures like snakes, so much so that she rarely watched movies with snakes in them.

The dread of having a nest of snakes moving in her direction was not something an average person could handle.

“Avery, run!” Cayden roared at the shell-shocked Avery. “Get up and hide in your room. Don't come out! There are tranquilizers and several hunting rifles in the closet drawer of the room next to the study. They'll allow you to protect yourself... Don't be afraid. I'll be there soon!”

He cared not that Avery running might risk harming the infant in her belly as her safety took precedence over all else.

While he was on the call with Avery, he dialed the number of the security guard of the mansion and said, “There is a sighting of venomous snakes in Mansion No. 8. Bring realgar, snake hooks, and rifles, and deal with them immediately! Don't forget the antidote too.”

It was better to be safe than sorry.

Avery would need to be administered an antidote if she was bitten by the venomous snake to be saved.

Cayden called Jeremy next. Jeremy was a retired special forces soldier with plenty of experience surviving in the wild. Naturally, handling venomous snakes was under his belt. However, he was not at the mansion currently, as it was his day off.

Thankfully, he rushed toward the mansion as soon as possible once he received Cayden's call.

Cayden did the same as soon as he hung up.

Avery's leg might have almost recovered, but she was not athletic by any means. His forehead beaded with cold sweat when he imagined her being bitten by the venomous snakes.

He dared not think of the possibility of something happening to her.

She had just recuperated from her car accident and regained another chance to live when the heavens decided to play a cruel joke on her. Cayden had an urge to curse despite usually being cool-headed and rational. NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.

He stepped hard on the accelerator and sped past the traffic, ignoring the stop lights.

Meanwhile, Avery was running for her life. It was a race against time and life.

She had never been in such a chaotic state before.

Now that she was pregnant, she could not risk getting bitten by the black mambas. If she were to slow down, she would not be able to bear the consequences.

“Help! Somebody, help me!” Avery shouted at the top of her lungs while bolting away from the snakes. Suddenly, she recalled how distant each mansion was from one another and that most belonged to Cayden. There was no point in crying for help as no one would hear her.

The doctor, caretaker, and nutritionist had left the mansion two days ago now that her leg was almost completely healed.

While Jeremy was not on duty today, two other housekeepers were around. Despite that, one of them had taken leave to attend their son's wedding back in their hometown.

The other had gone for a grocery round to stock up on necessities in the city and wouldn't return for a while.

Avery was the only one left in the mansion besides James, the gardener, who'd fertilized the peonies in the morning.

Avery wished earnestly that her cry of distress would catch his attention.

Fortunately, James appeared just as she was on the verge of collapsing due to exhaustion. He was holding a pair of pliers while munching on a half-eaten red apple.

“Mrs. Moore...” James' was astonished when he caught sight of Avery, who was running like the wind. “What's going on?”

“S-Snakes... There are a lot of venomous snakes... H-Help me!” Avery struggled to string her words together as she fought to catch her breath.

James turned around out of curiosity, and his jaw dropped when he was welcomed by the sight of the black mambas slithering toward them.

He had encountered all kinds of snakes during his twenty-odd years as a gardener but never before one that was as ferocious.

Something was off about them as they seemed exceptionally agitated. Without a doubt, they were many times faster and more lethal than the average snake.

The flowers and vines that lay in their path were decimated.

A swan was resting below the shrubs grooming its feathers. It barely had time to react before one of the snakes sunk its fangs into its neck, doing away with it instantly. It was evident that its venom was life-threatening.

The gardener almost wet himself out of fear.

How did such dangerous creatures find their way into the mansion?

The gardener's adrenaline rush caused him to run even faster than Avery. All of a sudden, a pained grunt sounded from behind him.

He turned to see Avery holding her belly in agony as she slowly sunk to her feet in the flower bed.

Abdominal pains wracked her entire being due to the terrible fright and her running suddenly.

She couldn't bring herself to move another step even though the mansion entrance was only away a hundred meters away.

The thickest snake that headed the nest had approached imperceptibly while Avery was catching a rest. Its jaws gaped open as it aimed its fangs at her smooth ankle.
