Chapter 555
Chapter 555 Cayden From Ackleton
When Avery was watching the video of Cayden giving a speech, Evangeline suddenly tilted her head to look at the screen. “Avery, what are you watching?”
Upon catching a glimpse of the handsome and graceful Cayden, Evangeline was instantly filled with admiration. “Wow! Isn't he Cayden Moore? He's become so popular in Ackleton recently! Oh my God, he's so hot! He's my idol. Do you know he established Trident Group single-handedly? Can you believe it? I aspire to work in that company. How about you? Let's study hard, become Certified Professional Constructors, and apply for a job at Trident Group. What do you think?”
Listening to her babble caused Avery to lose her patience.
Evangeline appeared to be a refined lady until she spoke, at which point she began to chatter like a bird.
“You know, our—” Jake began to explain, but Avery cut him off with a look.
Avery responded, “I hope the both of us can pass with flying colors.”
Evangeline bobbed her head in acknowledgment. Just when she thought of continuing to watch her idol, Avery ended the video.
Feeling a little disappointed, she said, “Avery, why did you turn it off?”
Avery glanced at the time on her wristwatch and stood up from the stone stool. “It's almost time. We should enter the exam hall soon. Where's the venue for your exam?”
Evangeline said, “Room 302 in Block D. How about you?”
Avery was surprised. “It looks like we'll be in the same exam hall.”
Evangeline could not contain her excitement. “We're in the exam hall? What a coincidence! My seat is No.5. What's yours?”
“No.16,” Avery replied.
Evangeline grabbed her hand and was ready to lead her to the exam hall. “Let's go together, then. This is so exciting! I'm so glad you're with me. At least now I know I won't be sitting for the exam alone.”
Avery did not want to dampen Evangeline's spirit. She said apologetically to Jake, “The exam will last for at least a few hours, and non-candidates are not allowed to enter, so it's best if you could wait outside. Go ahead and do your stuff if you're busy, or you can stroll around the campus. I'll call you once I'm done with the exam.”
“Sure,” Jake replied.
Avery and Evangeline had to do some walking to reach the exam hall since the School of Economics and Finance was a large faculty.
All the other exam candidates, too, were walking in the same direction.
Evangeline instinctively protected Avery from coming into close contact with the other candidates.
Avery was touched by her thoughtfulness.
As they continued walking, Evangeline continued protecting Avery from the crowd and spoke. “Avery, let's stay calm during the exam. We should begin by answering the easy questions first and leave the difficult ones for later. We need to make the most of the exam time.”
“Yes, I know,” Avery responded with a grin.
Just then, Avery's phone rang. Upon noticing it was Cayden, she answered the call right away. “Hey.”
She wondered how he managed to find the time to call her since he was supposed to be giving a speech.
The man, who seemed to have read her mind, explained in a sultry voice, “I can sense you're on your way to the hall now since your exam is about to start. That's why I took a few minutes to call you and wish you all the best. I have faith in you, Ery!”
Avery smiled. “All right.”
After ending the call, Evangeline asked out of curiosity, “Your husband?”
Avery grinned bashfully and nodded.
As Cayden was not yet her husband, she did not want to create the impression that she was pregnant out of wedlock.
“What a loving husband!” Evangeline was envious of Avery.
Based on her observation, Evangeline could tell Avery must have married someone wealthy.
Nonetheless, on second thought, Evangeline believed Avery might have married a wealthy man who was not particularly attractive. After all, many young and beautiful women were going after rich men, but it was rare to find handsome and wealthy bachelors.
Even the slightly attractive second-generation rich men have high standards and are extremely selective. Therefore, Evangeline doubted Avery had the good fortune of marrying a top-tier, good- looking second-generation rich man.
Having that thought in mind made Evangeline more at ease.
No matter who Avery married, it was evident that her husband was a man of stature. Evangeline believed that maintaining a good relationship with Avery could help propel her career forward and expand her network in the future.
With that, she treated Avery with even greater enthusiasm.
However, Avery felt a little uneasy with Evangeline's overly enthusiastic behavior. Despite this, when she noticed how carefully Evangeline was guarding her and keeping other candidates at bay with her arm, Avery decided not to say anything as she was grateful for her assistance.
Soon, they arrived at the exam hall, where two male invigilators were present.
While one invigilator was tasked with keeping watch over the candidates to prevent them from bringing in any unauthorized materials, the other used a device to scan the candidates.
A rectangular table was set up outside the exam hall for candidates to leave their notes and bags. Prohibited items had to be left on the table before the candidates were allowed to enter the exam hall.
After gathering all her notes and putting away her phone, Avery placed her bag next to Evangeline's.
She then entered the hall with Evangeline before walking to her seat.
An invigilator scanned Avery's body with a device to ensure that she was not carrying any items that could aid her in cheating during the exam. Once she was cleared, she was allowed to go in.
Avery took her seat and patiently waited for the exam to begin.
Suddenly, in an unintentional glance toward the entrance, she caught sight of Yulissa, the head of their design department.
Avery froze for a moment as she did not think she would bump into Yulissa. There are numerous examination venues, yet I'm assigned to the same hall as her? Geez.
Their eyes met briefly, but the reactions on their faces were completely different. Yulissa's expression was indifferent, while Avery looked surprised.
Upon recalling how Yulissa was often at odds with her when they were working in the company, Avery could not help but bite her lip in frustration. To this day, she still had no clue why Yulissa marked her as her archenemy.
However, Avery realized it was not the time to dwell on those irrelevant thoughts. She averted her gaze from Yulissa and focused on checking her stationery.
Meanwhile, Yulissa also placed her bag on the table.
As soon as she caught sight of the bag with the baby polar bear zipper charm, she knew it belonged to Avery.
Yulissa remembered Avery would carry the bag to work every day. She recognized it because of that tacky zipper charm. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
When no one was looking, Yulissa discreetly turned sideways to block others' view and quietly unzipped Avery's bag.
She then stuck her hand into the bag and casually pulled out a document from it before swiftly zipping it up.
No one noticed what Yulissa did, as her action was swift, and she intentionally obstructed others' views, taking advantage of the fact that all the candidates were rushing to enter the exam hall.
Meanwhile, the hall was filled with intense silence and tension, transporting Avery back to her high school days during the university entrance exam. The atmosphere felt like a soundless battlefield, forcing her to give her undivided attention to the assessment.
Coincidentally, Yulissa was assigned to sit right behind Avery.
