Chapter 572 Encountering Claire

Saturday arrived in a blink of an eye, and it was time for Avery to attend the checkup at the hospital with Alina.

Cayden was busy, so he couldn't accompany Avery. Still, he asked Jake to drive Avery to the hospital.

Additionally, he asked Avery to take a picture of the examination reports for him.

Just as Avery arrived at the hospital entrance, she received a call from her aunt. “I'm in Room 606. It's at building No. 6. Once you arrive, you can go in directly.”

Avery followed her aunt's direction and headed to her destination. However, when she arrived at the hospital's lawn, she saw Claire in a business suit.

Claire was clutching her chest with a wince and hurrying to the hospital entrance.

Then, she vanished into a corner without spotting Avery.

Avery wanted to greet her but couldn't do it in time.

Furrowing her eyebrows, she wondered why Claire seemed to be in such a hurry. Is she sick? Why isn't anyone by her side? Also, for some reason, every time I see her, I'd experience a strange, pleasant feeling, even though she's Nicole's mother. She told me to leave Cayden in the past, but that somehow doesn't diminish the familiarity I felt toward her.

She shook her head, halting her thoughts, and resumed her journey.

A few minutes later, she arrived at the room her aunt mentioned.

She knocked on the door and went in.

Jake waited on the bench in the corridor.

Inside the office, a middle-aged female specialist with glasses examined Alina's mammary gland by hand.

“Your situation isn't looking good, Alina. I think you need an operation. If you drag this out, your condition will only worsen,” the specialist uttered seriously as she stared at Alina with a sorry look.

Alina grimly touched her chest with tears in her eyes.

When she saw Avery entering the room, she stifled her sorrow and waved at her niece with a smile. “This is my niece that I mentioned to you before, Avery Rumpley. Please give her a checkup today as well. As you said, this cancer is likely to be passed down from generation to generation, so I'm worried she might end up like me.”

Then she pulled Avery's hand and introduced her to the doctor. “Ery, this is Gigi. She's a professor who graduated from Dellmoor University and majors in mammography. Currently, she's the doctoral supervisor at Summerbank University's Department of Medicine. She's particularly experienced in treating breast cancers and is the mammography expert here. I'll feel more at ease if she personally examines you.”

In comparison to the stylish Alina, Gigi Larson appeared quite plain.

However, she had a wise and refined vibe to her.

Avery greeted politely, “Nice to meet you, Gigi.”

Immediately, Gigi took a liking to the meek and well-mannered Avery.

As she studied Avery, she joked, “I didn't expect your niece to be all grown-up and be this beautiful, Alina. You sure hid her well from me. If I knew you had such a gorgeous niece, I would've asked my

son to chase after her. Then, we'd be in-laws. Tsk, I bet you only revealed her existence now because you're about to become a grandaunt. I'm disappointed, Alina.”

“Forget about it. Your son lives in Jetroina and only returns here a few times yearly. I don't want my niece to marry someone who lives in another country. Women who did do that tend to be unlucky. If something bad happens to them, they can't even complain about it to someone. I prefer my Ery to stay in the country.” Alina sighed.

In response, Gigi patted Alina's shoulder. She knew her friend was thinking about something sad again, so she said, “I was just kidding with you, Lina. Don't let those negative emotions break into your heart, and stop thinking about all those nonsense again. Understand?”

Avery could tell her aunt had a great relationship with Gigi, despite their apparent bickering.

Worryingly, she asked, “What's my aunt's current condition, Gigi?” I think I heard her mentioning that Aunt Alina's condition would worsen when I came in. However, Aunt Alina always seemed so immaculate and in peak condition. Sometimes, I'd even forget she's a cancer patient.

“Your aunt, she...” Melancholy settled on Gigi's face.

Before Gigi could speak the truth, Alina interrupted, “My body's fine. I just need to take my medicine daily to control my condition. Please examine Ery's body now, Gigi.”

Once the examination was brought up, Gigi promptly regained her professionalism as a doctor and asked Avery plenty of questions.

As she asked, she recorded the answers on her laptop. It was obvious she was very competent at her job.

Then she carefully examined Avery's mammary gland by hand and discovered zero lumps.

Smiling, she reported, “Your niece's mammary gland is in great condition, Lina. There are no issues with it.”

Nevertheless, that wasn't enough to ease Alina's worry. “How about you perform an ultrasound examination on her? Otherwise, my doubts won't leave me.”

Hesitantly, Avery asked, “I'm pregnant right now, Aunt Alina. Will the ultrasound examination affect the baby?”

Gigi assured, “Don't worry. The ultrasound doesn't involve radiation, so it won't negatively impact your child.”

Upon receiving the doctor's guarantee, Avery underwent the examination without worry.

When the report came out, it indicated that Avery was perfectly fine.

She proceeded to undergo a series of mammary gland examinations. All the reports showed green.

Seeing that Avery's mammary gland was doing absolutely fine, Gigi asked the former questions about her pregnancy. When Avery told Gigi she was twenty-two weeks pregnant, the latter suggested the former consume glucose and screen for gestational diabetes through a blood test.

Avery's monthly prenatal checkup was conducted by a family doctor.

When she recalled how it was about time for that checkup, she thought performing the examination at the hospital she was in was acceptable. So, she agreed.

Alina promptly accompanied Avery to have the latter's blood drawn.

To Avery's surprise, she met Claire again.

Her blood was drawn at Window No. 1 while Claire was at Window No. 2.

Claire was stunned when she noticed Avery's baby bump.

Then she smiled at Avery. I always have this strange feeling whenever I see Avery. Even though she sabotaged my daughter's romantic relationship and caused Nickie's mental breakdown, I just can't bring myself to hate her. Is it because her deceptively innocent face makes it impossible for anyone to hate her? NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

Just as Avery was going to ask Claire about the latter's condition, she heard the nurse drawing blood at the side speaking. As Avery and Claire faced the nurse, the nurse spoke to Claire professionally. “You may pick up the result with your daughter later at the same time, ma'am.
