Chapter 699 Molly's Husband
Susan and Shawn's excitement took a hit; they had imagined the cherry orchard would be out in the middle of nowhere.
Since Teddy's last bout of cold and fever, Vera had been extra cautious about going out.
Back in the bedroom, she gathered Teddy's clothes, hat, a light blanket, a quilt, and his special lotion-an entire bag full of Teddy's things.
Molly lounged in the passenger seat of Sebastian's car, watching her busy family members while she relaxed like an outsider.
"Sebastian, should I be doing something?" Molly asked, leaning against the window.
Sebastian glanced at the excited Susan and Shawn and replied, "Just stay in the car. If you need anything, ask Susan to get it."
Molly then called out to Susan, "Susan, be a dear and get me some sunscreen."
Susan turned around and shouted, "Aunt Molly, do you want lotion or spray?"
Molly looked at Sebastian and smiled, "Either is fine."
So, Susan brought both.
When they set off, Shawn sat in the back of the car with Randall and Susan.
On the way, Randall couldn't help but comment, "Susan, your dress looks great, but we're going cherry-picking. Are you planning to use your dress to carry cherries?"
Susan pulled a large plastic bag from her pocket, "No, I brought a bag." Randall was speechless; Susan had completely missed his point.
Shawn looked at Susan with increasing satisfaction, "Susan, you think of everything. Even Grandpa isn't as thorough as you."
Susan smiled, "I've wanted to go for a while, but Randall always has plans on the weekends, so I didn't want to bother him." She almost said "library" but quickly changed it to "plans."
Randall glanced back at Susan, who was keeping his secret, and smiled.
Shawn grumbled at Randall, "You spend all your time playing and never focus on important things."
Susan defended Randall, her previous anger at him long gone, "Grandpa, Randall works all week. He deserves to relax on the weekends."
Shawn sighed, "Our family is truly blessed. Vincent married a wonderful woman, Patrick married Vera, and even Randall, the unlucky one, found someone as kind as Susan."
Susan was puzzled, but Randall understood and said nothing. He kept following the car ahead.
Vera sat in the back with Teddy in his car seat. Teddy always enjoyed riding in Patrick's car.
Teddy's clear eyes gazed out the window, his little mouth moving as he entertained himself.
The car was quiet as Vera recorded the family's peaceful moments on her phone, capturing Patrick's silhouette as well.
"Say 'Mama,"" Vera prompted, tapping Teddy's soft lips.
Teddy opened his mouth and grabbed Vera's hand, trying to eat it.noveldrama
"Let me see if your teeth are coming in. Biting hurts now," Vera said, pinching Teddy's chubby cheeks.
Patrick occasionally chimed in, "Should we trim Teddy's nails too?"
"Let's wait until he's asleep. He's playing right now."
Vera couldn't resist her affection for Teddy, holding him close and rubbing his chubby little body like a kitten. "It's strange, I thought I gave birth to a little tiger, but he's turning into a little piggy. Aren't you, Teddy?" She tapped his nose, and Teddy happily flailed his arms and legs.
Teddy laughed as he babbled to Vera.

Patrick glanced at the mother and son in the rearview mirror, feeling a sense of peace. "Teddy?"
Vera lifted Teddy to face the driver, "Can you say 'Daddy"?"
Patrick smiled and switched hands on the wheel. Teddy stuck out his tongue excitedly, realizing the front seat had a better view.
Leading the way was Sebastian's car. "Sebastian, when did you start having feelings for me?" Molly asked.
Sebastian suggested, "Let's play rock-paper-scissors. The loser confesses first. I'll go first."
Molly thought about it. Sebastian might set a trap, and she wasn't experienced enough to outplay him. Plus, if he said he'd go first, what if he tricked her? Or what if he really did go first, and she chose scissors? Too many uncertainties. She decided, "Nope, not playing." She couldn't win a psychological game against Sebastian, and relying on luck was too risky.
The car passed through bustling streets, then the suburbs, and the road narrowed, revealing scenic countryside. Traffic thinned, and the landscape became hilly. Molly insisted on opening the sunroof, standing up to feel the freedom.
She kicked off her shoes, stood on the passenger seat, and stretched out of the sunroof, arms wide open. "The wind is so strong, I'm getting lightheaded!"
The mother and son in the second car saw her.
"Honey."
"No way!"
Vera pouted, "Honey. Molly's husband let her do it. I want to too."
Patrick honked at the car ahead. Sebastian understood and slowed down.
Patrick instructed, "Put Teddy down. You can only play for a bit."

Vera excitedly put Teddy down while Patrick opened the sunroof. Teddy watched the roof slide open, fascinated.
Soon, Vera was kneeling between the front seats, standing up through the sunroof. "Molly!"
Molly turned, "Vera!"
Teddy saw his mom standing up and excitedly grabbed the seat edge.
Moments later, another voice called out, "Molly, Vera!"
"Susan, you came out too?"
Three experienced drivers were now driving slowly like beginners.
Randall leaned his left arm on the window, resting his face on his hand, steering with one hand, letting everyone have their fun.
"Susan, hurry up and let Grandpa have a turn." There was a line forming.
Randall remarked, "When I drive my convertible, none of you are this eager to stand
up."
Shawn scoffed, "Your convertible doesn't even have a roof. You're the only one who likes it."
Randall was speechless. Communicating with the elderly was impossible!
Eventually, Susan climbed down, and Shawn stood up for a bit. The drivers shouted at everyone to sit down, and the cars resumed normal speed.
Teddy's eyes were glued to the window. When Patrick started closing the sunroof, Teddy got upset, his face turning red.
Patrick compromised, keeping the air conditioning on with the sunroof open.
Teddy stared at the sky, occasionally spotting a bird, babbling excitedly to no one in particular.
What do you think?
