Chapter 23 Only the beginning
After taking Luke to the hospital, Blaine went to the back of the hospital to think about what just happened. The last thing he expected to happen just happened and he was beyond speechless at everything.
He thought his brothers were dead, he thought his father died that was why he left with the money that was left with him after their operation. Now, Pedro and his father think that he left with their money?
Deep down, Blaine was happy when after he and his brother’s last raid, he returned to bring the last batch of money to their money truck but he saw that it was bombed. The minute he saw it, he was certain that they were all dead and he was sad at first but happy because that meant he had a chance to leave Colombia and go somewhere else to start over.
He never thought that he would ever see or hear Pedro’s voice again. If he had known, he would’ve gone to Mavis’s house the night Pedro called to warn. But the way he sees things, it would seem that his father has gotten a bit more advanced with his ways, because how did he find Blaine? And how was he able to find Mavis?
The only way forward from here on out is to save Mavis and her family from any further stress by doing exactly as his father wants. That is the only way.
” What are you doing here?” He heard Mavis ask as he leaned his back on the building.
” What do you mean?”
” I don’t understand you, Blaine. You get my family in trouble, my little brother got shot and now you’re just chilling at the back of the hospital?” She asked looking genuinely upset at me.
” You even threatened us with a gun, a gun you could’ve pulled out of your pockets to fight Pedro but you didn’t.” She continued, ” I just want to know who you are. That’s all I want to know because it’s clear that your name is not Blaine Rider”
” This isn’t something I can just talk about anywhere I want Mavis. We need to be in a very secret place for me to tell you everything you need to know and this place is not it at all”
” I can’t believe this. So you’re some kind of criminal?”
” I never said that”
” But you had a gun, and your brother said you stole money from them, and he sure as hell looks like a criminal.”
” I had a gun for protection, just in case”
” And you didn’t think to use it?”
” I’m sorry Mavis but if I had pulled out my gun, you all might’ve ended up dying because I’m very fast and precise in shooting, I never miss.”
” Are you saying you’d have shot us instead?”
” No, I’m saying that my brother Pedro can shoot faster and is more precise than me. He would’ve blown out your brains even if I still get in a few shots that would kill him no doubt. So what would I gain from that? Not using my gun was the safest bet ”
” So what happens now?”
” I have no idea. I’ve not seen them in years, I started a different life, I’m a wealthy businessman, I’ve got a wife and two boys. I can’t just leave all of that and go back to being a ruffian” Blaine said, running his hand through his hair in frustration while Mavis stared at him.
” You have kids?” Mavis asked and he nodded his head.
” Why then did he only threaten me but not your family? Why am I the one he used to threaten you?”
” I don’t know… my sons are adopted actually. They’re from Victoria’s previous marriage and I adopted them when I married Victoria. I guess Pedro didn’t think I’d care for them as much as I would care about my biological child”
” And was he right to think that?”
” Yes, he was. I love them regardless but their mother I despise. I believe that’s why he didn’t bother with them.”
After standing in silence, Mavis decided to stop being angry at Blaine and to convince him to get them out of the picture of his crazy family.
” Look -”
” – don’t worry about anything. I am going to leave with him. If that’s what will keep you safe then… so be it”
” And where will you be going?”
” Colombia”
” Oh…”
” Yeah. Look, I’m sorry for all the stress that I’ve caused you.” Blaine apologized but he didn’t look at Mavis.
” But… I don’t think this will be the end. It most likely is just the beginning”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
