The CEO’s Substitute Lover

Chapter 79: Opportunity Knocks

Pointing to Tredan Davi in the CCTV, he said, “That’s our friend, he’s locked himself in, that lock is so precise we can’t open it.”

My cousin looked at Tredan Davi on the CCTV, listened to his slurred gibberish, and laughed, “A young man of letters, is he out of love?”

Woodrow froze and gave Domino a thumbs up from behind his cousin’s back.

Cousin said to Woodrow, “Where’s the lock? Take me down to see it.”This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Woodrow took him down to see the lock.

Domino’s cousin studied it carefully for over an hour while Woodrow watched him listen and turn it carefully, looked at Domino with questioning eyes, but only got back a glare.

Cousin stood up, thought about it, and said to Woodrow, “The mechanical part of the lock should be fine and can be unlocked, but I can’t solve the computer program in this lock. Can you find the one who designed the program?”

Woodrow said in a rush, “I designed the program, I designed it.”

With a raised eyebrow, his cousin smiled at Domino and said, “Not bad, I thought he was just a rich dude, but I didn’t think he had any real skills!”

Domino smiled daintily.

Woodrow was embarrassed but instantly excited at the thought of the lock opening.

His cousin looked at him and said lightly, “Don’t get too excited, we’ll have to do it together, and if the steps or sequence are wrong, then you’ll have to buy some dynamite.”

Woodrow immediately crumpled.

With the computer and tools ready, Woodrow was sweating as his cousin explained the steps and procedures to him.

The two of them fought for over an hour before the lock cylinder finally clicked.

Woodrow got down on his butt and said, “Oh my God, I’ve just hit myself with this rock, I think I’ve lost half my life.

His cousin looked at the lock, “In return, I’ll take the lock.”

Woodrow climbed to his feet and rushed into the house, struggling to carry the unconscious Tredan Davi on his back as he made his way outside, “Brother, please, take it off, take it away, the sooner the better, I never want to see this damn thing again in my life.”

All the while shouting, “Domino, has the ambulance arrived yet?”

Tredan Davi’s life, at last, was recovered.

Woodrow and Domino sat down on a bench in the corridor, exhausted, Woodrow wrapped his arms around Domino, resting his chin on the top of her head, choking on a sob, “Domino, we have to be good, we can’t be like them who are running around like headless chickens, we can’t be in love if we do that, these two big idiots, we can’t be like them.”

Domino reached out and put his arm around Woodrow’s waist. Yeah, how come Octavia Gills and the others couldn’t simply love each other and stay together like her and Woodrow.

It was three days before Tredan Davi woke up.

Tredan Davi woke up haggard, with deep sunken eyes, not talking, not eating or drinking, and mostly sleeping.

Woodrow and Domino were exhausted from their vigil, but the god was immortal.

“What should we do? Should we inform his father?” Domino was out of ideas.

“What do we say if we do? Let’s forget it. It’s not like anyone in his family cares about him.” Woodrow looked at his brother and suddenly felt sorry for him, so sorry.

“So should we inform his mother?” Domino had heard Woodrow talk about Tredan Davi’s mum over the past two days.

“I think it’s better not to.” Woodrow winced at the thought of Freeman Gellings, and although Lang Carley, Freeman Gellings’ assistant in the country, had helped them a lot, Woodrow felt it was better not to mess with that god for everyone’s safety.

“It’s just the two of us knowing about it, just pretend he’s an orphan, he can’t die anyway, it’s just a matter of when he gets over it on his own,” Woodrow said to Domino.

“Otherwise, let’s tell Octavia.” Domino hesitated.

“You can tell by the way he’s acting that the two of them didn’t have a good meeting in Japan, and telling Octavia would just add to the trouble, and if anything else happens over there, won’t it kill us both?” Woodrow objected.

“Yeah.” Domino sulked.

And just because neither of them had told anyone, it didn’t mean no one else knew about it too.

Lilian Drye was discharged from the hospital today.

Mum came to pick her up with the family aunt.

Impatient with her mother’s chatter, Lilian Drye walked on her own, just in time to see Woodrow walking ahead of her, and was about to call out to him to ask him why Tredan Davi hadn’t visited her for so many days when she saw Woodrow enter a ward.

Curious, she followed him, but she couldn’t see through the door. When she asked the nurse, she found out that Tredan Davi had been hospitalized for alcohol poisoning.

Lilian Drye was overjoyed at the news that her chance had finally arrived.

The next day, a well-dressed Lilian Drye arrives in Tredan Davi’s hospital room with a Thermos bucket in her hand.

Woodrow and Domino were surprised and looked at each other, wondering where Lilian Drye had gotten her information.

Lilian Drye looked at the two, put the Thermos on the table, and to Tredan’s bedside to look at him, who was asleep but looked distressed, “Tredan, what’s wrong with you? Why did you drink so much wine? You know I was worried sick, I had my aunt make porridge last night and brought it to you first thing in the morning.”

Turning back to Woodrow, he said, “Woodrow, you two have had a hard time these past few days, I was also in hospital and couldn’t come and see Tredan, but now that I’ve been discharged, I’ll take care of Tredan Davi.”

She looked at the two of them and said, “Do what you want to do, I’ll take over from here.”

Woodrow and Domino looked at each other and Woodrow gulped before saying, “Erm, well, Lilian, you’ve only just been discharged and you’re still very weak, so Tredan’s fine with Domino and me.”

Lilian Drye smiled contemptuously, “I’m Tredan’s fianc??e, it’s only right that I look after him.”

“Haven’t you guys broken off your marriage?” Domino, unworthy of Lilian Drye’s condescension, couldn’t help but choke out.

“Since when did we break up?” Lilian Drye was calm and collected.

“Didn’t you all see our grand engagement? And did you see Group Davi or Group Drye make a statement about our withdrawal?”

Domino choked and looked over at Woodrow, who shook his head; the withdrawal had been made by Tredan Davi to Lilian Drye, and although everyone knew that Grimm Drye and Floyd had gotten into a private fight at the clubhouse, the talk about the marriage between the two families was in danger of falling through was only a speculation, and neither party had made a statement on the matter until today.

Lilian Drye couldn’t help but smile smugly, “Please go back, both of you.”

“We’ll stay and look after Tredan Davi too, after all, we’ve been looking after him all these days and we know best what his condition is,” Woodrow said in a rush.

Lilian Drye raised an eyebrow, “You can stay, but not your girlfriend, after all, it’s not convenient either.”

“You?? ” Domino opened her mouth in anger and wanted to curse.

Woodrow hurriedly stopped her and pulled her outside.

“I’ve never seen such a shameless woman, she’s still stuck up for that person who said he doesn’t want her.” Domino was furious.

“Well, Domino, you’d better go home to rest, I know you’ve been tired these last few days.” Woodrow was helpless.

“What about you?” Domino asked, Woodrow had been looking after Tredan Davi for the last two days as well.

Woodrow rubbed his face and said helplessly, “I can’t leave Tredan to Lilian Drye, no matter what she wants. It will be a disservice to my brother if I don’t keep an eye on him. If I leave, Tredan will hunt me down when he recovers.”

Domino was silent.

Lilian Drye felt that God had given her a chance to start over with Tredan Davi.

Because of the way Octavia Gills had taken care of Tredan Davi back then, Tredan Davi had never forgotten and had fallen in love because of it.

It didn’t matter, wasn’t it just taking care of him? Back then I was too young and too scared of the unknown to do it.

Now it’s different.

By taking advantage of Tredan’s illness this time, she wants to get back everything she has lost.

Lilian Drye called her aunt at home and asked her to prepare all the precious ingredients such as ginseng, black chicken, abalone and sea cucumber, etc. She also called her mother to find a familiar herbalist and asked her aunt at home to make various kinds of herbal meals to nourish the qi and blood.

In half a day, all the doctors and nurses in the ward knew that the princess had arrived in Ward 6, and three nurses had already been scolded by her in the morning.

The first one was scolded by Lilian Drye for tucking Tredan Davi in while taking his blood pressure, and for being a vixen with bad intentions.

The second was accused of neglecting the patient because the medication was not given immediately.

The third nurse squeezed Tredan Davi’s hand for a long time while removing the needle.

The nurses went to the director complaining, and no one already wanted to work in Ward Six.

For the sake of his friendship with Woodrow, the director had no choice but to call him and ask him to ask the princess in Ward Six to leave.

Woodrow was also forced to come to Tredan Davi’s ward with his secretary and the documents he had accumulated over the past few days.

Lilian Drye was scowling at him, but there was nothing she could do about it.

When he was done with his business, he bore the brunt of listening to Lilian Drye shout and scowl at every nurse who came in. Woodrow took one look at Tredan Davi, who was motionless in his hospital bed and said through clenched teeth, “Boy, just wait until you’re well, I will skin you alive.”

Looking at the sizeable food box on the table from Lilian Drye’s family, Woodrow suddenly had an idea.

“Lilian, are you going to feed him like a pig?”

Lilian Drye said angrily, “Look who’s talking?”

Woodrow put out his tongue, “I wouldn’t want to wake up if I knew I had these sitting next to me.”

“Woodrow, what do you mean?” Lilian Drye exclaimed.

With a twinkle in his eye, Woodrow softened his tone and said, “Lilian, I know that you want Tredan to wake up sooner, to get better sooner, to start over with you.”

Lilian Drye pursed her lips, her eyes teared up and she turned her head away.

Woodrow smiled secretly, “But Lilian, we both know the knot in Tredan’s heart, if you’re like this, it won’t work, why don’t I show you a way.”

Lilian Drye turned her head and looked at him, she knew Tredan Davi’s best friend was Woodrow, the two were so close they could share their trousers. If Tredan Davi hated something, then Woodrow would unconditionally hate it too.

“You? Help me? How is that possible?”

Woodrow sighed deliberately, “Do you know why Tredan is like this now?”

Lilian Drye shook her head hesitantly, she wanted so badly to know why Tredan was like this, but no one had told her.

“To be honest, I don’t know why, he just went to Japan and came back and locked himself in the cellar, it took me a lot of effort to open it up and get him out.” Woodrow deliberately paused.

Lilian Drye did follow up, “And he didn’t tell you anything?”

Woodrow shook his head.

“So what happened to him?”

“It doesn’t matter what happened. But we can all see that he’s in a bad mood, and in that case, it doesn’t matter what food you make for him to eat, it’s more important to get him in a good mood.”

“I… What should I do then?” Lilian Drye asked unconvincingly.

“You can come and see him every day and talk to him, then leave here afterward, we need to give him space and time to think about the past and what’s to come, I don’t think he’ll want to wake up if we’re watching him like a hawk. Am I making sense? You see it, don’t you?”

Lilian Drye looked at Tredan Davi in the hospital bed and then at Woodrow who had a sincere look on his face and didn’t move.
