What’s Wrong
Alex took up my hands, cupped them in his. With his face assuring, “Don’t worry she won’t get to know, I’ll tell the driver to drop you off and I will send dinner over there tonight”. He said squeezing the house keys into my hands.
I let out a dry smile, I have been crying throughout. Alex returned a beaming smile that forced me to smile wildly. Then he drew me into a big hug, which was comforting and assuring that he will be with me through every step of the way.
After we separated and I was ready to go, I said “I will come back for the rest of my things” he nodded in affirmation.
I looked up at the stairs, and saw Mrs Reynolds with a smile at the corner of her lips. She should be proud of herself, it seems she has won this time.
I shifted my gaze from the stairs to the lobby I saw my personal maid, she was so good to me. She was my only friend and confidante during my stay at Alex’s place.
I looked around for few times, few drops of tears trickled down my face. Alex used his handkerchief to clean it, I smiled faintly. His house, apart from parents house was a place I found peace and comfort. The technology, tranquility and happiness filled arena were all I needed after the prison season.
Alex of course took good care of me and I am so grateful.
Alex pulled me up in to his arms again and that was the last thing I remembered.
Narrator’s POV
She Collapsed in his arms, he was busy shouting “Job, come help me get her in “. “Open the damn door”. At that point, he was not in my right frame of mind. He looked back and saw my mom standing at the entrance door her face said it all. ” You got want you wanted, right? ” “but let me get Claire to the hospital first, then we will talk about this,” he said when she came close and offered to go with him. But he slammed the door and started the car.
Alex hits the accelerator as he speeds out of his driveway. He’s in a state of panic, and he’s not paying attention to the speed limit or the other cars on the road. His mind is racing, but he’s focused on getting to the hospital as quickly as possible.
Alex’s hands were shaking as he grips the steering wheel. The only thought on his mind is to get to the hospital and make sure Claire is okay.
As Alex drives, he begins to feel a wave of nausea. He can feel his pulse quickening, and he starts to sweat. He can’t help but think the worst. What if he’s too late? What if Claire doesn’t make it? He tries to push those thoughts out of his mind and focus on the road ahead. But it’s hard to shake the feeling of dread.
He pulls into the hospital parking lot, but there are no available spaces close to the front entrance. He looks around frantically, desperate to find a spot. Finally, he spots an empty space at the far end of the parking lot.Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Alex quickly maneuvers the car into the space, not bothering to park neatly. He rushes out of the car, and sprints towards the hospital entrance. As he reaches the automatic doors, he’s out of breath.
As he catches his breath, he looks around, unsure of where to go next. He spots a reception desk just inside the doors, and rushes over to it. “Please help me,” he says breathlessly, and points towards the car, “I have someone in the car who needs help.” The receptionist looks concerned and asks, “What’s wrong? What kind of help do you need?” The man feels like he’s about to burst, and he struggles to get the words out.
“My girlfriend” She just fainted, and I’m not sure if she’s okay. I don’t know what to do.” The receptionist immediately springs into action, calling for a wheelchair and a nurse. Within moments, the nurse arrives and helps Alex get Claire out of the car and into the stretcher. The nurse begins to ask Alex some questions about Claire as they wheel her away.
Alex tells the nurse that Claire has been feeling weak and tired for the past few days, and that she hasn’t been able to keep any food down since…
“Since when sir? the nurse questions.
“Oh… that is a personal matter nurse, I shouldn’t have said that out”.
He explains that she was feeling dizzy earlier in the day, and then she suddenly fainted. The nurse takes Claire’s pulse and blood pressure, and she looks concerned. “I’m going to take her to the I CU ward,” she says. “I need you to come with me and answer some questions.” The man feels his heart pounding as he follows the nurse down the hall.
The doctor accompanied with the nurse brings Alex and Claire into a small exam room and asks him to wait outside while she examines her.
Alex paces the hallway, wringing his hands and worrying about her . He can hear muffled voices coming from the exam room, but he can’t make out what they’re saying. After what feels like an eternity, the nurse emerges from the room.
Mrs Reynolds soon made her way to the hospital,
“Dear, what’s going on”
“Do not please, just leave mum, go to your husband’s house, we will talk when we see, I don’t want any scene here”.
“Why are talking like this? I’m not your enemy, I want the best for you..”
“Do you? Really? My God, is this the best? You mean the best to you is that I do not have peace of mind, or the best to you is that I continually have sleepless night… What is best for me if not what I want?
“Please mum leave” Alex said as he marched away from his Mum’s presence
