Chapter 356
Getting in good with Charles would set you up for life.
Noelle had already checked in with Rowena and Teresa before she arrived. Knowing they got there first, she quickly looked around. Sure enough, she found them munching on snacks in a corner. She joined them, all smiles.
Xavier was busy welcoming guests. He spotted Noelle and tried to head over, but the crowd was thick. He barely took a few steps before someone stopped him to chat, and he just could not get away.
By then, Noelle was already chatting with Rowena and Teresa. "How did you two end up eating so early?"
"If we don't eat, what else can we do?" Rowena shrugged, nodding towards their classmates. "Look at them cozying up to the rich folks. Ugh!"
Noelle laughed and shook her head, grabbing a pastry from Rowena's plate. "You've got a point."
"Where's your husband? Why are you by yourself?"
"He'll be here any minute!" Noelle replied. "He's bound to show up at an event like this, but our relationship is kind of a secret, and I'd like to keep it that way."
Rowena and Teresa nodded at each other and pretended to zip their lips shut.
Out of nowhere, Rowena shouted, "Look, it's Charles. He's here!"
She pointed excitedly toward the door. The whole room buzzed with excitement, as Charles walked in. Some guests knew him while others did not, but everyone noticed his fancy clothes and the crowd around him. They all wondered who he was.
Joseph and Julian spotted Charles and rushed over to say hello. "Hey, bro! We're glad you could make it!" Joseph's words sparked whispers among the crowd about how he and Charles knew each other.
Charles just gave him a casual glance. With a small wave of his hand, Ronald hurried over with a gift.
Charles was slightly smirking, his icy stare leaving everyone guessing if he was pleased or annoyed. Nobody really knew what to say about Joseph trying to get close to Charles, especially since Charles did not seem too keen on it.

not help but feel a bit scared. Julian, on the other hand, could not stop staring at Charles, totally wowed. He had always thought Xavier was pretty cool, but next to Charles, Xavier just did not measure up.
Charles flashed a sly smile and handed a gift to Julian. "Mr. Shaw, your daughter is getting married today. What a happy and wonderful occasion," he said, making everyone around them gasp. They could not figure out what Charles was up to.
Was it possible that Charles did not have a relationship with Joseph? Was he there just to honor the Shaw family?
Julian was especially taken aback because he did not think he knew this young man very well. Meanwhile, Joseph's face froze. He must have been seething with anger at being embarrassed in front of everyone, but he kept his cool.
Charles looked around at everyone casually and asked, "Is Sir Shaw here? I had a great chat with him a few days ago, and we planned to have another game of chess today."
Everyone was stunned again. Was he Sir Shaw's chess buddy? It looked like Sir Shaw really was respected, since Charles seemed to have come here just for him.
