The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 146

Chapter 146

Cordelia just bounced out of the bathroom when Ronan swooped her up in his arms, making a beeline

for her bedroom. Her heart kicked it into high gear. Ronan pecked her chest before booting the door

shut behind him. He gently laid Cordelia on the bed, his body pressing down on hers.

"I've got dark circles under my eyes," Cordelia managed to say beneath him.

"So?" Ronan stared at her, panting pretty hard.

"Don't keep me up all night, every night. I've got work to do," she told him.

"I didn't bring any condoms," Ronan whispered into her ear, making her tingle all over.

He was thinking that even if she got pregnant, it wouldn't be the end of the world. He had no intention

of ending this marriage. He'd made peace with the fact!

"I did." And with that, Cordelia pulled out a box of condoms from her pocket. She'd just bought it from

the pharmacy.

Ronan looked at her, a smirk playing on his lips. "I thought you weren't up for it. Looks like you're ready

to rumble."

"But don't keep me up too late," Cordelia pleaded with him.

Ronan turned off the light.

and kept rocking.

The bed was much smaller than the one at Ronan's place, but it made them closer to each other.

Cordelia could even smell the scent of Ronan's sweat, that intoxicating pheromone smell. It made her

heart race and her cheeks flush.

After they were done, Cordelia's heart was hammering in her chest, making it even harder for her to fall

asleep.

The room felt stuffy, so she got up and walked over to the window. The lights were off, so no one

outside could see in. She didn't bother to get dressed; she just pulled back the curtains.

The moment the moonlight flooded in, Ronan saw a beautiful silhouette, curvy, slim waist, and long

legs. His heart started racing.

"Looks like there's an upside to having a small room," Ronan said.

The distance between the bed and the window in the villa was pretty wide. Ronan had had other

flutters of excitement before, but this was something new.

"What?" Cordelia said, propped up against the headboard, unable to sleep.

Ronan moved in closer. "Your apartment is pretty sweet."

"My mom loves it too. My dad was an engineer at a factory and this was the company apartment. They

lived here for all those years. My brother wasn't born here, though. I think I..." Cordelia suddenly

stopped. Her mother had never mentioned her birth.

Back then, her brother had just started middle school and could only come home once a month. Then

one time, he came home to find a new addition to the family, Cordelia.

"And then?" Ronan probed.

"Then what?" Cordelia turned to look at Ronan. He had his hands behind his head, eyes closed,

snuggled up against her.

"Your dad."

"My dad?" Cordelia thought, “Had he figured something out?” But then she thought, she and her mom

hadn't said anything. How could he possibly know?

So Cordelia continued, "My dad felt that his factory salary wasn't enough to make ends meet, so he

found another job as a project manager. Then he had an accident. Let's not talk about it anymore."

Ronan didn't say anything else. His heart was filled with complex feelings for Cordelia. He couldn't tell if

it was love that was in the driver's seat, gratitude, or resentment towards her.

The next morning, the housekeeper made breakfast.

"The house is a bit simple. Don't mind it, Ronan," Shelley told Ronan.

"It's fine," Ronan replied nonchalantly.

Cordelia thought to herself, “He seems to get along pretty well with mom. There seemed to be an

unspoken understanding between them.”
