The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 157

Chapter 157

The next day, Cordelia put on some light makeup and dressed appropriately.

At one in the afternoon, the company-wide meeting officially kicked off. Ronan began his speech.

Cordelia sat in the massive hall, which could accommodate ten thousand people, but she didn't stand

out.

On the stage, however, Ronan was the center of attention, and all eyes were on him. Watching Ronan,

full of confidence, Cordelia felt a bit dazed. Was this man once her husband?

Ronan then gave a special shout-out to the Audit Department, saying they had made significant

contributions in the process of restructuring the Finance Department.

Cordelia thought to herself, “If she were still in the Finance Department, she probably would have been

restructured too. Ronan had moved her to the Audit Department due to some issues. He really had an

eye for talent.”

All along, he had been quite nice to Cordelia.

Cordelia felt that the disagreement with him had been going on for a while now. The company hadn't

suffered any substantial losses, nor had it gone under, so, Cordelia thought, if she had the chance, she

should resolve this disagreement as soon as possible.

Then came the time for the awards. There were over twenty people in the Audit Department, and they

all stood on the stage.

Cordelia was wearing a black suit dress, paired with a white blouse. As a newcomer, she stood at the

end of the line.

Ronan started giving out the awards from the other end, one trophy per person. Additionally, each

person in the Audit Department got a bonus of a thousand dollars.

Finally, it was Cordelia's turn. Ronan looked into Cordelia's eyes as he took the trophy from the

hostess.

"Your collar's not done up properly?" Ronan muttered to Cordelia. Then, he adjusted her collar for her.

Cordelia looked up and saw Ronan's eyes. His voice, it had been a while.

Seeing the way she was looking at him, Ronan was a bit annoyed. "Stop being mad and come home!"

Ronan said, and then he stepped down from the stage.

Emerson sat next to Ronan. After Ronan stepped down, he said to Ronan, "I can see it. She's indeed

different from the others."

Ronan didn't say anything. His eyes were fixed on Cordelia, who was walking down the stage.

Down below, Samantha was dumbfounded. She had been working in the sales department of Lumos

Enterprises for over a week now. But for the past week, no one had discussed anything company-

related with her, and since sales often required traveling, she wasn't often in the office, so it wasn't until

today that she found out that Cordelia was actually in the Audit Department of Lumos Enterprises.

Seeing Cordelia receiving an award made Samantha feel very uncomfortable. It was as if she hadn't

met the standard, but Cordelia was already outstanding.

What she didn't know was that Cordelia's husband was Ronan. Because no one had told her.

The reason was this.

On Samantha's first day at work, she had cleaned her desk. Originally, the desk was piled high with

items that others didn't need, but Samantha had thrown all of these things into the trash, which had

upset her colleagues. Moreover, Samantha didn't understand teamwork and often tried to snatch

business for herself, which gave her a bad reputation in the office. Everyone kept their distance, never

sharing any office gossip with her. Lately, there hadn't been any interaction or scandalous rumors

between Cordelia and Ronan.

Therefore, it wasn't until today that Samantha discovered Cordelia also worked at Lumos Enterprises.

Samantha thought to herself, “This is a perfect opportunity to embarrass Cordelia.” As long as

everyone knew her husband was the man involved in the office indecent photo incident, Cordelia's

good mood after winning the award wouldn't last.

After the company event, Samantha went up to the top floor, where it was eerily quiet. She found

Cordelia.

"Cordelia?" Cordelia was tidying up her work badge, getting ready to go home. Seeing Samantha, her Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

heart fluttered.

She kept thinking about the scene where Samantha had furiously torn up her test paper.

"Cordelia, so you really do work in the Audit Department?" Samantha said. "You told me before that

you worked in a small company."

Cordelia laughed awkwardly.

"Let's go, we'll go home together," Samantha said. "Where are you headed?"

"I'm going to my mom's house. Where do you live?"

"I rented a place." Adrian wouldn't allow Samantha to say that he had helped her find the job.

Samantha actually lived at Adrian's house, but Cordelia didn't know that.

"How much is the rent?"

"The rent...is one hundred twenty dollars a month. I share the place with someone else. Let's take the

bus together. I don't have your contact, let me add you on Facebook. It'll be easier to contact each

other in the future."

Cordelia felt like she couldn't refuse, so she accepted the friend request.

The two got into the elevator. It was already past ten in the evening, there was no one else in the

elevator.

"Cordelia, is the work in the Audit Department tiring?" Even though Samantha harbored deep

resentment towards Cordelia, she had to pretend to be friendly with Cordelia in order to embarrass her.

"It's okay."

The elevator reached another floor, and the doors opened. Ronan and Emerson walked in.
