The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 256

Chapter 256

"Cordelia's expecting twins?" Janice exclaimed in surprise and delight.

"Yes. That's what the ultrasound showed, but we'll have to see the 'real deal' to be certain," Victoria

explained with a shrug, as if to say she took no responsibility should they turn out to be both boys or

both girls.

"Why didn't Cordelia share the news with us?" Janice complained, glancing at Ronan.

He sat quietly, his brows knitted in deep thought, evidently clueless about the news. Realization

dawned on Ronan, explaining why Jamie had gifted Cordelia with those two porcelain dolls. They

weren't representative of Jamie and Cordelia but of Cordelia's soon-to-be children!

In other words, Jamie knew about the twins long before him, the unsuspecting Mr. Evans of Lumos

Enterprises. If not for Victoria's visit today, he wouldn’t have known until the kids were born.

But then again, he wasn't the father. The gender of the children had nothing to do with him, and there

was no need for her to inform him.

On this New Year's Eve, Ronan's expression was particularly grim. After dinner, Janice went to wash

the dishes. Emerson invited everyone to play poker, while Ronan settled on the couch with a book.

"Reading on New Year's Eve, bro?" Emerson glanced at Ronan. "If you keep stuffing your head with

knowledge, what's left for us mortals?"

"Just play your game!" Ronan snapped back impatiently.

Observing the two, Emerson turned back to the others. "See the difference? Mr. Evans is in a league of

his own."

Cordelia sat between Brooklyn and Victoria, watching them play. She thought to herself, Ronan might

have a grand vision, but his tolerance was as narrow as a needle's eye, especially towards her.

When their eyes met, Cordelia quickly looked away.

"Brooklyn, why do you always help Edwin win?" Cordelia complained as she watched Edwin rake in the

chips, and Victoria losing hand after hand.

When Victoria finally gave up, Cordelia took her place.

As they chatted, Brooklyn brought up the successful year Lumos Enterprises had and casually

mentioned the substantial bonuses their employees received. Cordelia was taken aback, realizing the

scale of big corporations compared to her small firm.

"Ever thought about coming back?" Brooklyn asked.

But Cordelia was quick to dismiss the idea. "I've moved on. A smart person does not dwell on past

actions." Immediately, she regretted her words. Was she implying something about her past with

Ronan?

Brooklyn subtly kicked her under the table, muttering, "Are you out of your mind?"

Discussing 'not looking back' after divorcing Mr. Evans was a recipe for awkwardness. In an attempt to

change the subject, Brooklyn mentioned the new yoga class at Lumos Enterprises. Cordelia dismissed

it as any other yoga class until Brooklyn explained that it was prenatal yoga, specifically designed to

make childbirth easier.

“That's different, remember I told you about Kitty last time? She specializes in prenatal yoga; it's really

good for you and the baby. It makes childbirth much easier, even if you're carrying twins, you can still

have a natural birth. Kitty is the only one in all of Millstone who can do this, not just any yoga class can

offer you that.” said Brooklyn.

“That impressive?” Cordelia was surprised. She hadn't really thought about the birthing process yet, but

everyone says that children born naturally are smarter, and, she wouldn't have to get a scar on her

belly. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.

“Cordelia, from a doctor's professional perspective, you should consider this.” Victoria, sitting on the

couch, advised, “Besides, it’s so convenient for you. Private classes like these outside charge five to

six hundred per session.” Victoria and Cordelia were not colleagues before, so she lacked an

understanding of Cordelia's past entanglements with Ronan.

"That expensive?" Cordelia slightly furrowed her brows.

No matter what Victoria and Brooklyn said, there was no way Cordelia was going back. Once, her

dream had been to become an independent certified public accountant, and now that dream had come

true.

Lumos Enterprises' Audit Department didn't allow outsiders, so of course, she wouldn't go.

She didn't put much thought into that matter.

"Yeah, after leaving Lumos Enterprises, you must be regretting it now, huh?" Brooklyn told Cordelia,

casually glancing at Ronan.

Ronan was sitting on the couch reading a book, his face expressionless.
