Chapter 318
Chapter 318
It was around four in the afternoon. A knock echoed through Cordelia's home, announcing Adrian's
arrival. He held a large gift box in his hand, his eyes wandering around the room as soon as he
entered. He muttered to himself, "Damn, the wealthy!"
Cordelia knew trouble was brewing as soon as she saw Adrian. At this hour, her housekeeper, Janice,
would usually be out shopping for groceries. However, Cordelia asked her to stay and keep an eye on
things at home.
"This is for you." Adrian tossed the gift box onto the couch, pacing around the room.
Cordelia gave Janice a look, and Janice promptly grabbed the vacuum cleaner, trailing Adrian
wherever he went.
"What's this?" Cordelia pulled out a variety of baby clothes, shoes, and accessories from the box.
Everything was made of pure cotton with excellent quality, soft and comforting. Cordelia couldn't help
but admire them.
"Are these from you?" Cordelia asked Adrian, pressing a small piece of clothing against her face.
"Me? I don't have that kind of money. Ava sent it. She said, after all, you're carrying her grandchildren."
Adrian sat down on the couch, continuing to scan the lavish surroundings.
Adrian had been courted by Ronan before, but he had remained noncommittal. Initially, he had aligned
with Jamie, then switched to Ronan. But after being burned once by Ronan, he became wary. He
feared falling into a bigger trap. So this time, he didn't side with anyone readily.
Cordelia pondered, "Actually, my babies aren't Jamie's. They're Ronan's."
"His?" Adrian raised an eyebrow, his expression scornful. "Truly a rich man's game, a pregnant woman
at home, and a social butterfly outside."
"What do you mean?"
"What do I mean?" Adrian crossed his legs, about to light a cigarette, but was stopped by Janice.
"Deanna recently hit rock bottom, and was about to give up when Ronan bailed her out, you know?
Deanna has been donating goods to Evergreen Primary School to clean up her image. Everyone saw
Ronan's capital and gave her resources. Would he help her like this if they weren't involved?"
"Adrian, please refrain from such talk in front of Cordelia. She's pregnant." Janice was quite displeased
with Adrian's insinuations. During Barney's last birthday, Adrian had stirred up unnecessary drama.
"What? He does it, but nobody's allowed to talk about it?"
Cordelia frowned deeply; she was completely in the dark. She had been busy with accounting recently
and hadn't had time to catch up with the news. Ronan had kept her home.
"Did I say too much?" Seeing Cordelia's bewildered expression, Adrian raised his hands in surrender. "I
didn't say anything. I know nothing. I'm leaving." With that, Adrian left.
Cordelia retreated to her room and opened Deanna's Facebook page. C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
Deanna was a rather high-profile person. She wouldn't have kept such an event secret. But her
Facebook was empty. In the settings, Cordelia saw that she had clicked the "Do not see her Facebook"
option, but she was very sure she hadn't blocked Deanna.
It must have been Ronan's doing. This made Cordelia even more furious.
She called Brooklyn, who was in PR. She should know about this, but she hadn't said a word to
Cordelia beforehand.
"What's the meaning of donating to Evergreen Primary School? When did this happen?" Cordelia's first
words when the call connected.
"Cordelia, you..."
"I know everything! Adrian told me. What's going on?" Cordelia was furious, not so much about the
possible affair between Ronan and Deanna, but about Ronan knowing that Deanna was the one who
plotted to kill her grandmother, yet he was still helping her.
"Cordelia, don't be angry, Mr. Evans didn't tell you because he didn't want to upset you. He was worried
about your pregnancy." Brooklyn was equally anxious. "He didn't mean any harm."
"Had he meant no harm, he wouldn't have done it, right?"
This left Brooklyn speechless. She, too, thought that Ronan, knowing it would lead to
misunderstandings, wouldn't have gone ahead with it.
"Cordelia, I don’t know what to say anymore," Brooklyn said.
After hanging up the phone, Cordelia sat on the bed crying until Ronan came home.
