Chapter 358
Chapter 358
"What are you doing?" Cordelia blocked Brooklyn's path.
"Ms. Haselwood? My boss would like to have a word with you in the car."
Cordelia looked puzzled. "Your boss? Who?"
It couldn't be Jamie. Jamie wasn't one to pull such a mysterious stunt.
"Back off, or I'm calling the cops!" Brooklyn warned.
To her surprise, the man politely addressed Brooklyn, "We mean no harm to Cordelia, just a chat,
twenty minutes, half an hour tops. You don't have to accompany us, but if we don't release her by then,
you can call the cops." C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
Cordelia and Brooklyn exchanged a glance. Curiosity piqued, Cordelia said to Brooklyn, "Wait for me
across the street. If I'm not back in half an hour, call the cops!"
"Alright," Brooklyn stated solemnly, then went over to the BBQ stand across the street. With plenty of
people around, she felt safe. Her gaze never left the luxury vehicle on the other side.
In the car.
"Ms. Haselwood, Samantha's grandmother was attacked. She was removed from The High Society's
cast, and nearly had her face ruined by acid. You're aware of these events, right?" A deep male voice
came from the passenger seat.
Cordelia couldn't make out his face, only that he was wearing a black suit. His voice was chilling. The
atmosphere inside the car was oppressive, heavy, and sinister, certainly no joking matter. Cordelia's
heart started to pound. Samantha had mentioned these incidents were because of a ring.
Turned out Samantha was telling the truth.
"I'm aware." Cordelia's face turned grim.
"Good. We've now identified you as the original owner of the ring. These misfortunes might befall you
next. Just a heads up, Pulse Technologies, your husband's investment, got cut off by The High Society.
This is just a small punishment to show you that we indeed have the power. As for what unfortunate
events may occur in the future, we don't know. It could be your son or your husband. Your husband is
powerful, but he can't fight us from the shadows. Ms. Haselwood, divorce Ronan."
The incidents he mentioned had indeed occurred, and the prospect of future disasters made Cordelia
break out in a cold sweat, but she didn't show her fear.
"If it's me you're after, going after Ronan and my son is useless. I couldn't care less about them! I've
already divorced Ronan. He killed my mother. Who would stay with their mother's murderer? As for the
son, do you really think I wanted him? I came back for my exams, Ronan raped me, and I got pregnant.
I wanted to abort but found out it was twins. Abortion would harm my body, so I gave birth. Who knew
the boy would take all the nutrients, causing the girl to die. I originally loved my daughter the most, but
my son took everything from her. I despise my son. He and his father are the same. I'm the odd one
out."
The man in the black suit listened quietly. He saw Cordelia's eyes well up with tears in the rearview
mirror. She must’ve been telling the truth! "In that case, leave Ronan immediately!" He commanded.
Cordelia understood their objective. They didn't want to antagonize Ronan, given his formidable power.
She was their only enemy. But why was Cordelia their enemy? She was utterly perplexed. All because
of a ring? That was absurd!
Cordelia pondered.
"Ms. Haselwood, I'll count down to three. Three, two..." The man started to count.
"No need to count, leaving him is what I want. I've always wanted to study in America, but he wouldn't
let me. If he continues to refuse, I'll run away."
"Ms. Haselwood is quite sensible. Of course, if you decide not to leave, we have other ways. We could
cause a massive stampede in Lumos Plaza, forcing Ronan to apologize and causing the stock to
plummet. We could expose Lumos Enterprises' shoddy construction, which had led to a massive refund
from the owners, stock crash, and even bankruptcy..."
Cordelia felt a chill run down her spine. Indeed, compared to what happened to Pulse Technologies,
these were serious incidents. From the incident where they sent Samantha white phosphorus, she
knew they were capable of pulling these off.
"Aren't you afraid of the police?"
The man chuckled arrogantly. "The police won't find anything."
Cordelia shuddered. True, the police hadn't found anything regarding her grandmother's death. "I
understand. I'll leave soon."
"Ms. Haselwood, we hope you won't play any tricks. We have full knowledge of your movements," the
man in the black suit stated.
"I understand." With that, Cordelia got out of the car.
