Chapter 2353
Chapter 2353
Tan noticed the somber look on Justin's face and leaned forward, speaking earnestly. "Mr. Salvador, everyone in this world is constantly changing. You need to keep a close eye on Mr. Grant and be ready to fight back if necessary. While you can return his kindness, that shouldn't ever become an excuse for him to manipulate or intimidate you!" After a moment of silence, Tan added, "Actually, there is one thing in this world that I believe will never change." Justin looked up and asked, "What is it?"
"Young Madam's love for you."
Justin's long lashes trembled slightly, and an obscure emotion churned within his chest.
Three days had passed.
Bella had been transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular ward. Fortunately, after a comprehensive examination, no lasting complications were found after she regained consciousness. However, both her hands had been badly affected by frostbite and were now wrapped in bandages following treatment.
She tried to make light of it, joking that her hands now looked like pig trotters.
Asher, who had rushed back from the Sentania and stayed by her bedside, could not muster a smile.
"Ash, why did you come back?" Bella tried to sit up, but Asher gently pushed her back down. "Where's Arnold? Have you found him yet?"
Asher's gaze shifted, his voice hoarse. "No. I tracked him down twice, but he left before I got there. He's avoiding me on purpose."
Hearing this, Bella felt a pang of sorrow.
Her brother the best man in the world gave his all for her and the Thompson family. Yet, when it came to simply loving someone, why was it so difficult for him?
Perhaps their family was cursed with some ancient, unbreakable cycle of heartbreak.
"Bella, this time, you really went too far." Asher's deep concern and lingering fear finally gave way to an uncharacteristic flash of anger as he looked at his beloved younger sister. "At the end of the day, Justin is just a man! You're the Thompson family's heiress! Was breaking up with him really worth risking your life over? When you lost the will to live, did you even think about us, about Dad, or about your mother's spirit watching over you from above? She's always watching you. Seeing you like this-disregarding your own health-do you think she can rest peacefully?"
At that moment, Steven walked into the room. Seeing Asher reprimand Bella for the first time, Steven felt a wave of discomfort wash over him.
"Ash, now I truly see how strong you are. You're a born leader. I really admire you." Bella looked at her injured hands, and her eyes reddened as a lump formed in her throat. "And I... I'm just a nobody."
Asher frowned deeply and snapped, "Bella!"
"That night, I sat in the snow and cried for a long time... For one fleeting moment, I really thought about ending it all." Bella hugged her knees, her delicate body curling into a small ball.
She sniffled and murmured, "But Ash, don't worry. I've pulled myself together now. I've figured things out... I have let it go."
Both men were stunned.
They couldn't believe their ears. Bella, of all people, said she had let Justin go.
It was shocking, bittersweet, and heartbreaking all at once.
After a moment of tense silence, Steven tried to lighten the mood by changing the subject. "Ms. Bella, do you remember when I told you I met my brother Clarence and his fiancée the other day?"
Bella perked up slightly and nodded gently.
"Clarence told me something interesting."ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
"Interesting?"
"He said that a few days ago while doing legal aid at Savrow's Fifth Prison, he encountered an inmate." "Savrow's Fifth Prison?" Asher's sharp instincts caught onto the mention of the location. "The prisoners there are either death row inmates, those serving life sentences, or criminals sentenced to over twenty years. It's full of the worst offenders."
Steven added, "Not only that but some inmates with severe mental illness are also confined there."
Asher narrowed his dark eyes. "I've heard that Lucas Fowler is serving his sentence there as well."
Hearing that name, a faint ripple of emotion stirred in Bella's otherwise dim gaze. She spoke softly, "Steve, go on." "My brother said that after finishing his legal aid session that day, just as he was about to leave, an inmate in an orange jumpsuit suddenly lost control and ran toward him."
The Thompson siblings spoke in unison, "An inmate in an orange jumpsuit?"
"The Savrow Fifth Prison uses orange jumpsuits to identify inmates with mental illness and set them apart from the others." Steven continued, "This inmate dropped to his knees in front of my brother, grabbed onto his legs, and started crying bysterically. He insisted he wasn't crazy and hadn't committed any murders. The guy claimed he had been treated unfairly and pleaded with my brother to get his conviction overturned."
