Chapter 168 Rogue

"I forbid it! You can't go on blind dates!"

Brendon reached out and took Ranita's phone away. "Delete his number and don't contact him again!"

Ranita was furious. "Don't touch my phone!"

Deleting it was so impolite! Besides, Vincent probably asked her out because he had no other choice.

"Brendon, stop being ridiculous!" Ranita reached out to grab her phone back but didn't realize that she leaned against Brendon's body entirely.

Brendon could see her pure forehead just by lowering his head slightly.

"Give it back to me quickly!"

As soon as Ranita spoke those words, she realized that Brendon wasn't moving at all; he just stared at her with lowered eyes.

"What are you looking at?" She suddenly noticed something wrong next second.

"Sorry," said Ranita as she stepped back hastily but almost fell down due to too much force if not for Brendon's quick reaction in holding onto her arm.

"Be careful," he warned softly while still holding onto Ranita's arm.

"Hmm..." murmured Ranita as she moved away from him before reaching towards him again with an extended hand, "Give me my phone back!"

"No blind dates! If you promise not to go on any more blind dates, then I'll give your phone back."

Ranita gritted her teeth. "Give it back now!"

Brendon held onto the phone while raising an eyebrow, "Do we have an agreement? If you break your promise..."

His deep voice exploded in Ranita'a ear before she realized that he pulled himself closer by hooking one arm around neck while rubbing noses with hers mischievously, "I'll kiss you right here."

Ranita'a face turned red immediately due to embarrassment.

"Don't mess around; let go of me." She glared angrily at Brendon who looked serious without any hint of joking or teasing anymore.

This is a restaurant; I don't want people staring at us!

"Just give me my phone back. I won't go anymore."

Brendon raised an eyebrow. "Ranita, when you make a promise, you'd better stick to it."

Ranita pursed her lips, thinking, "Do you think I'm like you?"

"Well, your word is your bond!" After a pause, Ranita added, "If you act like this, I might misunderstand that you're not willing to divorce me."

It was a cautious probe, a courageous attempt on her part. Ranita was feeling anxious, afraid of the answer he might give her. She regretted being impulsive.

"I was just joking, Mr. Stuart. Forget about it!" Ranita quickly tried to backtrack, but Brendon continued to stare at her with a probing look that held some hidden meaning.

"Ranita..." Brendon began to speak but his phone rang and he hurriedly left after answering it.

Later that afternoon, Ranita went to the hospital to have her stitches removed from the wound on her forehead. Steve came by and brought some ointment for her scar.

"Dr. Pearson, let's go out for dinner tonight! My treat!" Ranita invited him.

"Sure! Where do you want to eat? What do you feel like having?" Steve paused before adding, "Actually I wanted to ask you something too."

Just as they were discussing their plans for dinner, Chris called and asked if they could meet up later that evening over dinner and discuss work-related matters as well.

Steve chuckled when he heard this, "You have work with Chris too?"

Thinking quickly on her feet, Ranita turned towards Chris and asked, "Mr. Webster, I had already made plans with Dr. Pearson earlier tonight but would you mind joining us?"

"Not at all!" Chris replied enthusiastically, "The more the merrier! And it's been awhile since I've seen Steve so we can catch up too."

Chris even arranged for a restaurant reservation afterwards.
